Secret to shaping up

aesir do you do combo moves? i must admit i like them, and challenge myself as to how many i can do in say 5 mins
I like having a varied workout, doing the same routine would demotivate me and the best thing about the bells is the variety of exercises and fab results in such a short timeframe :)

Chick lol

Gettingfit, theres a few moves on there that i havent tried, so might give a couple of them a go lol Wonder how many reps he did, was a bit wobbly in some, I do like the one legged type moves - altho I am normally all over the place when doing them

Combo moves? Which ones? The kettlebell in itself makes almost every move a compound one as it engages so many muscle groups (eg the swing has your legs, hips, core and back muscles activated) or do you mean like the clean and press, the clean being one independant move and the press being the other but they go together well...

When I want to shake things up a bit I add different moves I have learned from youtube. I particularly like the woodchop but in the beginning it was tough making sure momentum didn't ruin form :D

One of my fav combos is clean down into squat up into overhead press into windmill back to clean, drop bell to low swing to switch hands and repeat. Do quite quickly and see how many you can do in a given timeframe i.e 5 mins
Stringing moves together challenges you so much :)

Hi - well I've just attempted the practices that Kron kindly posted. I am totally knackered and am sweating like a pig (sorry, no other expression will cover it)!! Managed them all with the exception of the clean. I just can't do it without banging my wrist. I'm definately doing something wrong but can't work out what it is. The windmill was also a struggle and I had to turn up the volume as I couldn't hear over my hips and left knee clicking!

But then I'm very overweight, haven't exercised in over 20 years and was never Sport Billy anyway and I'm an apple shape with a core made of lard. All in all chuffed I didn't collapse and made it through. :) Looking forward to the aches and pains tomorrow!

I used the 3kg bell for all except the windmill where I had to switch down to the 2kg. The 3kg was wobbling so much when my arm was in the air and locked out that I thought it best to save it from crashing into my face! Much better with the 2kg and meant I could do 15 reps.

Roll on Tuesday for the next practice, although I might have a go at the clean again tomorrow and keep trying with it.

You honestly will be surprised how quickly it gets easier. First session is tough but they will get progressively easier until you switch routine/weight. With the clean, getting form right can be tricky and yes you will hurt your wrist until you crack it. Rather than letting the bell come over and smash your wrist, punch up from the bottom of your palm as the bell swings over. Not a full thrust upwards, just a small sharp one. This should help stop the bell smashing into your wrist. Its hard to put into words....try googling how to perfect the clean because someone else will be able to explain it better!

Kron, no I have not done moves like the one you posted but I am intrigued enough to give them a go :D

Cat lover sue so pleased you have had a go, and omg you did them all on your very first attempt I am very impressed :)
You are most probably giving the clean a bit too much strength and making the bell whizz around, easy to do on a light bell, try doing it a bit more softly/slowly if that makes sense, but practice will make perfect. Hope you don't get too bruised, I have had a few esp when starting out.
The windmill is one I love, just do what you can, and don't worry if you can't bend really far down, just do what you can as your muscles will develop, and you will be able to bend deeper in a very short time and your upright arm will get stronger your core more stable making it easier.
Hope your feeling ok tomorrow :)

Hi aesir22 and kron - really appreciate your tips. Will definately have another go with the clean tomorrow and see if I can make progress. I do have a 4kg bell as well so might try with that to see if the larger weight makes a difference.

I can't half feel the backs of my thighs at the moment. Think I may need help getting out of bed tomorrow! :)

Sue you have really worked hard, I expect your body will let you know tomorrow. When ready to do them next try the ones you think hardest first before your muscles start tiring. Hope your not hurting too much :)

Hi aesir let me know how you get on :)

I've done some YouTube ones tonight, I watch them do it then pause it a set my swing timer, only doing a min at a time though, still on the measly 5lb one (bit embarrassing, but I'm a weakling) but getting a 5kg one tom.
Tonight I did the mr cheesy one and the 5 best abs that kron recommended and windmill, so about 10 exercises is this enough? I did a min on each side. Oh and when I do the windmill do I bend my leg as i'm reaching down? X

Hi Donzy wow look at you go :) Your set is concentrating on your core, so I would suggest mixing some squats, presses and swings in to get a bit of cardio and all over conditioning. Your really going to notice a big difference in weight when you get your 5kg, you may need to switch around pending on the exercise, a heavier weight is great for swings so always try your 5kg then switch down.
For the windmill to start it is ok to have a slight bend in the knee. You should be working towards keeping your leg straight

Hi Illa welcome you only need one kettlebell but you can want to increase the weight as you get into it. :) There are a range of dvds, individuals and in sets which can range hugely in price, I can offer suggestions pending on your price range. I have posted some links very recently for online tutorials and practice exercises which may be of interest

I hadnt seen this one when I was on amazon last, so have had a quick browse, its a brand new release and compiled by a chap called Guy Noble who has developed the Kettlercise programme, which is what I do at class

I have just ordered it as I think this could be a good one when moving up to a heavier weight, so will let you know :)

Kettlebell Basics DVD Complete With 12 Week Training Workout Programe For Strength & Power (2011)

I like the sound of this Kron. Look forward to your review :)

Well I still have the final workout to do. I was nursing a huge hangover yesterday!!!!
Drinking on a empty stomach was never a good idea!!
Have you finished it Sweet?

Just had email from amazon to say kettleworx been dispatched!!! Woohoo so if that's second class should hopefully have by Thursday.... I'm gonna be lean mean swinging machine ?

Completed week 1 core- found it easier than cardio, but not easy by any means. Really enjoying it so far!

I need some advice from kettleworx users- how long do you leave between bell workouts? Do you literally only do the three a week, on set days, or do you just take a rest day between each and end up doing it in less than 6 weeks? Or, another option would be to do the core cardio and resistance on set days, and do some other exercise on the free days? (ie the fast fat burn or fast abs DVDs...)
Sorry if that's a bit unclear, just need some advice :)

im going to phone ideal tv today to find out where mine are *humph*

Still waiting for mine as well. Got an email to say they were being despatched from the supplier last Wednesday and a link to the HDNL (Home delivery folk) website. But no details are showing yet for my parcel being in the system. Getting annoyed now.
