Total Solution The Banana diaries

So I've not been updating much because I haven't been 100% the whole time. Luckily I am still managing to lose weight just maybe a little slower than I could. This week I am going to try my hardest to be 100% and see what happens. I wonder if I might need a little cheat ever now and then to keep me going and that is the only way I can do it. But these cheats will probably keep me out of ketosis so it seems silly if I have them. Long term I know I will keep doing this diet as it is the best VLCD I have even known and I do like the packs. I have enough to last me the next 8 weeks and would probably need that much if not more again to complete this journey. I don't really want to make it any longer than I have to. So fingers crossed and here's to a good week! Oh I measure myself again today and another 1/2 inch off my waist which is brill as that is the part of me I was hating the most! I have been taking some progress pics which I may put up at some point.

You won't kick yourself out of ketosis if you stick to low carb cheats such as a bit of cheese, a slice of ham, some chicken or avocado, a slice of smoked salmon, eggs etc. I'm like you. I do need to cheat every now and then and that is just the way I cope. I just know I couldn't do this 100% for 5-6 months. You are doing really well so keep at it. :)

I've been reading a lot about ketosis lately and a few people I know have said they tend to lose more when they have a little cheat like wine and cheese before weigh in. I'm not saying I'd do that all the time but I'm thinking if I stuck to very low carbs then it might keep me going longer

That's what I'm doing when I need to but without the alcohol. Alcohol can be risky for the body when you're in ketosis I believe. A small, low/no carb cheat isn't going to really affect things too much as long as you don't go mad and pile up the calories. I think that whatever you need to do to keep going with this can only be a good thing as sticking to it for as long as you need to has to be the main priority. Getting to goal, albeit a few weeks later than you might have if you'd been 100%, has to be preferable to not being able to stick to 100% and so giving up completely. I refuse to see my cheats as failure too. Just something that I need to do to keep going. This is MY Exante journey, no one else's, so I will do what suits me. Getting to goal by any means necessary is the ultimate aim.

I totally agree with you. When you're going to be doing this for more than a few weeks you need to do it in a way that's best for you and a little cheese here and there is fine in my mind if it keeps you on it.

I've heard the same about alcohol and ketosis plus contradictory information so I really don't know what's right.

Omg so happy. Since I gained weight I went up a shoe size. I've just managed to get into some new boots I bought a month ago in my 'normal' shoe size. Things like this really help!

It's great to have these little 'victories' along the way. Strengthens one's resolve!

Got to be honest and say that I veer the other way about additional food to the packs for a couple of reasons. The first being I know me and I know that if I have anything then I know I'll want more, I'm definitely an all or nothing person which is why this diet suits me better than just cutting back - I'm rubbish at it.

The other reason is that I want my time on the diet to be as short as possible, I want it to end - I do have planned breaks because I refuse to totally give up my life but try to avoid anything unplanned. Since January I've had one unplanned two days and about 3/4 planned which totalled around 6 or 7 days.

I'm not saying you are wrong for adding food so please don't think that, if I could and limit it I probably would too - as Cate says we are all different and the diet has to fit in with each of us and what we want xx

I'm hoping I can mostly be 100% but realistically I find it harder on some days than others. I'm hoping the longer I go the stronger I'll get bcoz I don't really want to be on it any longer than necessary either. I know I won't totally give up bcoz this is the best diet I've tried for a long time and I do find it easy to get back on track. I think you're amazingly controlled I have complete admiration for anyone who sticks to it almost 100% all the way through x

Hi hun, noticed you'd 'liked' a post on my diary so you're obviously around but you've gone very quiet. How goes it?

I haven't been around much hun. I have been dying of hay fever. I know I sound dramatic but it has been awful. Today is the first day I have felt even slightly normal. So have had good and bad days during the last week. Today I am getting back on track though (again!) I weighed yesterday and had gained 2 1/2lbs which tbh I was over the moon with I was convinced I had gained about 1/2 a stone. I know I will lose those lbs quickly if I try.

I have had a hot cross bun bar so far, some Dr Pepper zero and a chamomile tea with some locally produced honey (to help with the hay fever) I plan to have eggs with loads of chilli flakes and black pepper and then I still have another pack left. Hopefully I can get this day over with and be just as good tomorrow. I have been reading your diary again today Cate you're doing really well!

Sorry to hear you're suffering with hay fever. I don't myself but you have my every sympathy. As you say that 2.5lbs will be gone in no time and you've had a good day today. Hope tomorrow's the same. :)

Yeh I've been 100% today and I see you have too :) I just tried comment on your diary but my phone wouldn't let me.

I know the hayfever feeling! I take daily antihistamine, scoot the beconasr up my nose and put opticrom in my eyes and I still get red eyes n sneezes! X

Hayfever is the devil :( glad of this rain to be honest to give me a break from feeling dreadful. You have my empathy :)

Glad to hear you're still with us BB - keep going one day at a time! :)

Woke up feeling terrible. I've been up since 4 sneezing and unable to breathe so today will be a test as this is the kinda day where I've been giving in to my cravings.

Luckily I don't have work so I can rest a little. Planning on going for a walk with mum, dad and the dogs. Even in the rain. Then to the cinema.

Hope everyone else has a good day.

Hay fever has got a lot to answer for eh!.Hope the symptoms improve as the day goes on Bananaboo, stay strong xx

Thanks Susie I'm trying. I know I don't physically need to eat anything other than my packs it's just a comfort thing which is a habit I'm trying to get out of!

Yes I know what you mean, Try & have a drink instead whenever you get tempted xx
