The Wedding Dress Thread

I said my sister could have free reign on what the bridesmaids would wear.. What a nightmare! I should have set some ground rules!

We eventually found a dress that suited her and luckily it suited my step daughter too, I originally wanted pale pink but my sister is very pale so it wouldn't suit her, we went for a green which would match pink flowers, in the photos though the dresses look grey.

As for flower girls dress, she was 9 at the time, wanted to be in ivory and not the same as the others, went to BHS and Debenhams and bought ages 9, 10, 11, 12 none fitted! Tried age 13, 14, 15 & 16.. They didn't fit and they didn't come bigger then that, was starting to panic, happened to go on eBay and they had a wedding dress in a size 12, quickly called my SIL she said an adult size 12 should fit her, ordered it, thankfully it did and then I had a matching ribbon the same colour as the other bridesmaids sewn onto it.

oooh rope knots. Or a sailors hat upturned with flowers or something in?

YES!!! I want knots. Thankyou Shirleen, you are a genius!! (I've tried shells, too dangerous for the bouquet throw quite frankly).

Where do I start with rope knots??? OMG, SHIRLEEN I LOVE YOU!!!!!!

Oh my god Jez your wedding sounds perfect! I love anything nautical!! When are you getting married? I hope you'll be putting lots of pictures on here :D

I'm getting married in August in the Liverpool Yacht Club. The theme has so far only extended to the location, the colour theme, bunting, fishermans lanterns for the table centres, possibly the cake (which is a bit off the wall), rum for the favours and the invites. I wanted my bridesmaids in these:

But my Mum basically told me I was being silly (!!). So chances are they will be in a variant of this:

Although they will all be having different necklines as that halter didn't suit them all.

If anyone can think of anything else as epic as Shirleens knot idea please let me know!!

Wow that first sailor dress is a beauty! I could happily wear a sailor dress every day for the rest of my life. And my tattoos match the dress so i have an excuse!! I can't believe I've never thought of a nautical themed wedding before. OH would hate it though! He wants black and white to match his favourite football team... if he ever proposes haha :)

This was all started because of one of my tattoos too- I have a chest piece that says "Married to the Sea" and when I got engaged everyone took the piss by asking what was happening with my marriage to the sea....and then it transpired into a wedding that encompasses the sea, so the sea doesn't feel left out.

I love those dresses too...I might just tell my mum to eff off!!

Not a very good one....

I was super impressed with my tattooist for getting the diamond ring in there!

Actually that's an awful photo- it's a pretty colourful tattoo in an old school style iykwim. Doesn't do it justice at all that photo!

Didn't I adopt you?
I say go for those dresses cos they're stunning!!!!!

I hear you Mam!! I'm doing it!! I'm having them....birth mother can do one.

I think you've all made my mind up!!

HMS Victory!

Hahaha....actually all the tables are named after ships. So spot on.

How do I go about getting nautical knots. I doubt I'll be able to make them. Do you reckon I approach the local sea cadets??

I don't know but it cannot hurt to ask!
There are books in the library on nauti knots!
I was thinking that your 'flower girl' could have a rope ball but that might be as lethal as the shells!
