Tracy's Journey Into The Unknown (Maintenance!!)

I am the same as you with the "shouldn't have got so big" thing but we did & we have done (or in my case still doing) it xx

I often have the 'shouldn't have let myself get so big' feeling. Or, 'if I started this earlier I'd probably be at goal already'.

Meh, we work with what we've got! And now you know, you're never going to allow yourself to get that big again least of all because you've got the tools and the knowledge to do something about it the moment you notice yourself creeping!

Completely agree! I now as soon as a piece of clothing is too big it goes so I can't think "oh it's ok that will fit if I gain a bit back"

Completely agree - anyway who needs the If Onlys?! Not me. My life has been fabulous so far! I might regret not getting off my arse a bit more in the past but it's happened and I'm dealing with it now - which is the main thing :)

I always have the I shouldn't have let myself get so big. Sometimes I could cry :( x

Hey, you guys, don't ever get down on yourselves for "letting" yourself become overweight, we all know it's by no means that simplistic! When I made that comment about myself I was just explaining why I sometimes feel a bit hesitant when people say I must be so proud of myself for losing a lot of weight, but I don't feel bad about myself because of it, and neither should anyone else - the relationship we have with food is so complicated, and it really is a hard addiction to break, so don't feel bad about what's in the past, just concentrate on putting it right for a better future. :) xx

It's a difficult one as doctors I don't think see the addiction as difficult to break as drink or drugs but you have to have food to survive & you can't just cut it out your life. I don't think there is enough support out there & I would love to do something about that, this site is what has got me where I am now!

Totally agree lexie. All doctors do is tell you to lose weight. No help no nothing. But if you were an alcoholic or a drug addict you would get loads of help. Not saying they don't deserve it, but the same care and attention should go to overweight people.

I don't dwell on it too much. Just have days when I feel really down as everyone does. Xx

I dunno. I see being overweight less as the result of addiction, more out of habit. I think people can be addicted to food but the majority aren't. It's just habits that have formed over many many years.

I also disagree that doctors don't do anything. They offer sponsership to Slimming clubs, diet pills, referrals to nutritionists, some even sponser you to the gym. It depends on your area at least, but I know at least one person who has had one of the above.

At the end of the day it's all personal responsibility. And you're right it's much more difficult with food as you can't give it up cold turkey! and that's the challenge. I always say weight loss isn't actually about losing weight. It's more about re-programming your habits, learning to eat in a new way. The weight loss is a bonus that tells you if you're doing it right!

Yes it does depend on where you live. I am in Ireland at the moment and there really isn't much help or support here. I know where mum is back home in England. You can get reduced membership to the gym etc which is great. Xx

Yes, one of my colleagues has just been referred to Slimming World by her GP, and I think that sort of thing is getting more common. As for the addiction question, I think there's little doubt that some food items do have an addictive nature - it's that deadly sugar/fat combination that gets you! But of course it's habit as well - it's definitely a complex relationship, a real love-hate one!! :) xx

Many thanks, hon, that's so kind of you to say! :) I'm really not used to getting all these compliments, I'm getting all embarrassed, lol. :D xx

I'm at that stage where I'm not sure whether to throw my old clothes away..the ones that are too big for me..or keep them, just in case...(don't want to say it outloud, lol)
My shirts are literally falling off me...very VERY baggy on me, but I just bought them about 4 months ago and I like them.
I'm not sure if I'm ready to go out and spend more money on new, smaller clothes...

I'm with you ladies, it's like we were saying in wemitt - we have to rewire the brain. We're doing the hard work right NOW and we don't cut ourselves the break we really owe ourselves for doing something about it now.

It might be worth to hold onto your clothes whilst you're still decent and feel comfortable in them if you're dropping quickly so you're not buying new ones every few weeks. I've dropped 4 trouser sizes in 3 months and I've only just donated the 32's and a couple of 30's. the others I wear with a belt. Not down any tops sizes yet though (though I will be checking with the wardrobe of waiting clothes when I've sorted the washing machine situation!)

I had hubby take a couple of full length progress pics of me today. You can see what I mean about my annoying body shape, lol - scrawny legs and a much bigger top half, the typical apple!!
