Blimp to Bombshell: RawrGirl's Weight Loss Diary

RawrGirl said:
Aww...you guys are all so sweet. RawrGirl plans on updating her profile pic on Thursday when she gets on the evil scale. Oh, and she is 34, will be 35 in July. :/

Unfortunately within a few hours of curling her hair and taking those pics, RawrGirl's hair went flat as always and she scoured the internet for hours searching for how to add volume to the top of her head...and much to the frustration of Prince Charming, kept asking, "Do you like her hair?" What about hers?" "What do you mean you don't have a preference?" "For pete's sake, what type of hair do you like?"

Men. Lol.

So, after a very discouraging day today (RawrGirl couldn't pay quite a few bills just to cover the immediately must be paid things), she went to Goodwill with under $20 and found the most awesome black jeans with a subtle sheen. RawrGirl has always loved and worn faded blue jeans, but now for the first time ever she gets what they are talking about on What Not to Wear when they say to go with a dark wash. RawrGirl is very happy.

Ok, so since Squishy asked for pics, here they are.

Oh...first, RawrGirl broke one of her rules. She bought 2 things she would not have paid full price for, BUT only because of the color (RawrGirl buys mostly pink and brown and the occasional green). However, one can't be that picky at Goodwill, and they fit great and make her look slim. What are they? (hangs head in shame) Hoodies. BUT BUT BUT they are girl hoodies, not big baggy man or teenage son hoodies. And they are warm (and RawrGirl's house is cold to keep the heat bill down). And did she mention they made her look slim?

Ok, so here's the pics. In all of them, RawrGirl is wearing the super cool black jeans. They are soft and very comfy. In the first pic, she is wearing a pink sweater, that might be slightly big, but it might supposed to fit that way, RawrGirl is not sure. And in the other two, are her warm girl hoodies. Honest to God, RawrGirl did try to find sweaters instead of hoodies, but the 3 she tried on that she liked were too baggy, and NOT ONE sweater in the whole store had a sweater where the waist goes in, they were all boxy. (Actually, there was one, but it was a small, and it was turtle neck with added fabric at the top, and it was striped, and all around ugly, and all the style books say RawrGirl shouldn't wear turtle necks, and that was literally the only one in the store.)

And RawrGirl swears that as soon as she has money for regular shops, she will buy sweaters. But for now, at least she has clothes that are fitted, so she doesn't feel like she lost all this weight and can't even see it.

<img src="http://www.minimins.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=69075"/><img src="http://www.minimins.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=69076"/><img src="http://www.minimins.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=69077"/>

Wow wow wow, looking great! I love dark jeans, they seem to coordinate with more and they are so flattering. Yes, I think the pink sweater is meant to be loose too! Everything looks great and shows off your new figure! And I own plenty of hoodies too, they're a wardrobe necessity in my opinion!

By the way, your hair is lovely in these pics whatever you did to it? I would love long hair like yours but it doesn't suit me, fat or thin!

Um...RawrGirl has her annual girl checkup tomorrow morning and it didn't occur to her until THIS VERY MOMENT that they are going to weigh her!!!

So...she was supposed to get the scale Thursday anyway, and her home digital scale is off by 6-8 pounds (as compared to the WW scale) so...she can either:

1) stand on it backwards and tell the nurse not to tell her her weight, or

2) go ahead and get a more accurate reading than she would even if it's 6 days earlier

RawrGirl is considering going with option 2, because she thinks her Minimins friends would kill her if she didn't, and because it probably would be a good idea to get a more accurate reading instead of trying to figure out if she should add 6, 7, or 8 pounds to whatever the home scale says.

Bleepity, Bleep, Bleep -- RawrGirl sooooo wishes that tonight was NOT the night she decided to try out salty cauliflower crisps for dinner!!!!! (They were really good by the way, in case anyone is interested.) RawrGirl is going to double up on her potassium and hope...

:innocent0001:

DO IT, DO IT! I am so excited to hear how well you've done and how far you've come!! Good luck! X

That pink jumper is gorgeous! I definitely think it's meant to be loose. It looks great!

Good luck with the weighing, I'm really interested to hear how well you've done!

Drum Roll...

So, oddly enough, they didn't weigh RawrGirl, but they left her in a room with a scale, so she stripped down and jumped on and it said....138.5! :)

Except for the summer of 2011 when she hit 143, RawrGirl has not been under 147 in 14 years! She hasn't been 138 since late 1998, her lowest adult weight. RawrGirl would be through the moon right now as getting to 139 has been her goal for years and years and years, but a few weeks ago, she changed it to 120, then later upped it to 125 . :sigh:

RawrGirl wants to be happier...but it's almost like she wishes she didn't know. Because she def won't lose 3.5 pounds by Nov 21 and she's not sure she could lose that by Nov 30 coming off a Thanksgiving/out-of-ketosis weekend, so instead now she feels like she she should have made her Thanksgiving goal to be under 140, since she didn't know what she was in the first place and was only guessing, and then she wouldn't have failed it -- this is why RawrGirl hates the evil scale. Grrr.

Ok...so anyway...RawrGirl is under 140! Woo-hoo. Ooooo....just realized something: every pound lost here on out is the thinnest RawrGirl has ever been. :D That cheered her up quite a bit and motivated her to keep going! (Somehow the scale has a way of making RawrGirl discouraged...apparently no matter what it says.)

Happily...no more scales until December 21! RawrGirl much more enjoys looking in the mirror and actually seeing herself slim, watching her measurements going down, and fitting into smaller sizes. That keeps her head in a good space. Oh, and judging by how she looks, RawrGirl thinks she will up her goal weight again to 129. She doesn't think she has more than 10 pounds more to lose (mostly she just wants her upper thighs and arms to slim down a bit).

So here are this week's measurements:

Waist: 28.75 (-1/4)
Goal: 28. But wouldn't say no to 27.

Navel: 34 (- 1/2)
Goal: No particular goal

Hips: 38.75 (STS)
Goal: 10 inches less than waist

Thigh: 22.75 (STS)
Goal: 22 at least. 21 if possible.

Arm: 12 (STS)
Goal: 11 at least. 10 if possible.

Goal Weight: Honestly, what ever the scale says at goal measurements. RawrGirl wouldn't care if she only went as low as 135 if she was those measurements. Hmmm...she wonders if she is at that place of "the last 10 pounds" that are supposedly so hard to lose. Maybe she should stop doing the weight loss challenges. She is very happy to see even 1/4 inches lost...and doesn't want to set herself up to "fail" when she is doing so well. :)

Yea...she thinks she will do those goals where the ppl list what their goal is, but have no time frame, and just celebrates and marks it "DONE" whenever they hit it. That seems best for RawrGirl mentally. :)

Yes, she feels much better now! That would have been stupid to reach her lowest adult weight and feel like it wasn't good enough because of 3.5 pounds all due to a challenge she made up some number for.

* RawrGirl takes sledgehammer to scale and celebrates her new look! :D *

PS -- Since the last 10 pounds are so hard to lose, RawrGirl changed her goal date to 2-15-13. She just doesn't see the point of feeling like she failed just because she didn't hit it by a certain date. She eats 100% and exercises most days. Her body loses inches each week, so whenever her body reaches her goal measurements, she has reached goal, and will jump on the scales and tell everyone what she weighs. If she gets on the scale Dec 21, it will only be to see what weights goals with whatever her current measurements are...she has no particular goal weight.

Will let you off with the hoodies as they are rather flattering.
As for flat hair - I have tried industrial strength sprays, lotions, curlers, those horrendous perms & even without a breeze my hair just goes flat as a pancake in less than 2 hours. It's totally uncurlable. And I know how frustrating it can be when you just want to try a different look or going somewhere special - mine only ever has 2 looks - flat or bedhead.
And well done on your losses and your sensible approach on looking at yourself for guidance and not the scales - I'm finding that one hard as I just avoided mirrors for the best part of a decade & you wonder what do other people see.
Spent an hour today in the local thrift store - they are lovely and helped me choose a lovely dress, I'd have never put it on but it was really flattering - even found me some shoes that went with it. I try all kinds of things in there that I wouldn't in a regular store - even stuff that is too small so can see how far I am off wearing it. Plus it's cheap.

Yup. That's RawrGirl. Later that night she watched a whole bunch of youtube videos and one was on how to tease your hair to give it body. It was actually very interesting and so RawrGirl went to the dollar store today and bought herself a fine tooth comb. She will try it out later today, and post pics and then let you know how long it lasts.

Yea, RawrGirl tried to avoid mirrors as much as possible which led to never knowing what she looked like and ending up at the mall or something only to realize her hair was in a mass of knots because she hadn't brushed it in 2 days. It was actually the first day of her road trip last month (10/12) when she saw her reflection in a tinted shop window and was like...wow, something is wrong with that mirror, I look...thin. So then she started paying attention, and now she can see herself clearly every time she sees herself. It's a very nice feeling.

That's awesome. Yes, RawrGirl loves thrift shops when she can find something really nice like her new black jeans. She can't believe how happy she is in them. So glad they helped you pick a dress you wouldn't have thought you'd like. That is why RawrGirl is watching What Not To Wear episodes, because she always ends up buying the same things (jeans and t-shirts) because most stuff just doesn't seem her. It motivates her to get out of her comfort zone...she never would have even tried those jeans if it wasn't for that show. Will you post a pic of you in the dress?

Just a quick post as it's dinner time etc here but wanted to say WOW! That's fantastic RawrGirl. Must log on later to look at your stats properly but what an amazing weight loss. Anyone else without scales would've given up by now but you've done so well. I'm so proud of you *sniff sniff*

Oh my gosh...so RawrGirl went on an old weight loss forum she joined back in 2002 and found these horrid before pics of herself. She went onto that site, because back then 139 was her goal, and she wanted to update her latest journal (last post 2009) and tell all her old friends that she finally hit that particular goal.

So anyway...these horrid BEFORE pics are when RawrGirl weighed 162 (her heaviest was 172!)

front_before.JPGback_before.JPG

Feeling quite mortified, RawrGirl ran upstairs and took AFTER pics at 138.5:

Don't be mortified! You'll never be that weight again! We all start somewhere and you've seen how hideous my 173lb pics are *shudder*

And look how far you've come! You look absolutely fantastic. You could head to the beach in that bikini and hold your head up high. I certainly would if I had your figure. And I definitely don't! I'm not far from taking my next photos (-28lb/2 stone) so you can see for yourself.

Well done for posting these. I know it's not an easy thing to do but what spurred me on was that it might inspire others. These have certainly inspired me!

Well done Rawrgirl on reaching 138.5, thats amazing and you're looking so well!

And yes I agree with Squishy, your pictures are massively motivational to myself and many others on this site. Your before pics are at the same as my starting weight and our goal weights are very similar, so it's really nice to follow the progress of someone who's in the same situation as yourself. x

Weekend Update

So RawrGirl has treated herself just a bit this weekend. Earlier this week, she felt the urge to just go wild, but it's next weekend (Thanksgiving) that is her once a month out-of-Ketosis weekend, but she wasn't sure she would make it. So she is counting calories this weekend, but still staying low carb. She guesses that she was at about 1700 Friday and Saturday rather than 1500. Her extras have been her fav squash/zucchini dish, one slice of high fiber toast with egg breakfast, potato soup, and no sugar cheesecake pudding. Today she is having stuffed mushrooms with lunch and the rest of her squash/zucchini dish. She def thinks "treating" herself to these extras has helped curb the desire to binge, and since the scale is once again hidden, even if she gained (or even put on water wieght) it isn't around to tell her she blew it, she may as well eat anything and everything...instead, she just made sure she did 2 Shred workouts. That's unheard of for RawrGirl...to exercise because she ate, instead of eat more. That sounds so stupidly obvious but the scale really messes with her head. Part of her wonders if she's actually lost so much and reached a goal she hasn't been able to in 14 years BECAUSE it's gone, and not just due to the VLCD.

Hope everyone is having a fab weekend!

Well done RawrGirl on treating yourself but no going off the rails! That's such an achievement! Hope you are very proud of yourself because you should be. Sounds like you are having a lovely, happy weekend. I'm glad!

Thanksgiving Plans

RawrGirl may have overdone it calorie-wise this weekend, she's not sure because she didn't count anything...but she was abit full after dinner last night, so she could have stopped eating before she did. But she didn't eat anything she hadn't planned for, and assumes she is still in Ketosis.

On a good note, since the scale was immediately taken away after Friday morning, she can't jump on it to see how bad she "messed up", therefore she just jumped right back into the swing of things with a protein shake breakfast, 1 hour of figure skating, and a Shred workout. In the past, a weekend weight gain would have caused her to skip exercising and eat more than she should out of self pity and discouragement.

Oh...and RawrGirl was temped to start her Thanksgiving weekend a day earlier by ordering pizza Wednesday night, but then realized it would be better to have 3 full ketosis/diet days between this past weekend and the upcoming 4-day weekend, so here is her plan:

Monday and Tuesday -- 800 calories each

Wednesday (typical ketosis weekend of 1500 which includes 500 cal of vodka)

Thursday -- Oh my gosh can't wait, loaded hot Turkey sandwiches on a croissant (turkey, cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes, stuffing -- it may sound weird but RawrGirl discovered this a few years ago and she hasn't had a regular turkey with all the sides separate dinner since!)

to die for yumminess.jpg

Then Friday, Saturday, and Sunday will be one of the following (not sure which night will be what meal, but all 3 of these things will be consumed):

Pizza
Date night dinner at restaurant of bacon -- wrapped shrimp and ribs with salad bar
leftover turkey croissant sandwich

And of course, RawrGirl left out the desserts she is making for the Thanksgiving weekend:

Apple enchilladas (made with low carb wraps, no sugar added apple pie filling, sugar-free caramel, served warm with no sugar added vanilla ice cream)

apple enchiladas.jpg

Cheesecake bars (made with sugar-free cheesecake pudding, extra cream cheese, sugar free fudge, sugar free caramel, and pecans)

cheesecake bars.jpg

Because of the high fat content of her suppers, RawrGirl is going to attempt to have very light breakfasts and lunches those days...which may be very realistic seeing as over the weekend she tried out one of her soup ideas (cream of potato with bacon bits, and a touch of sour cream and cheddar cheese -- wow, it was good). So, we shall see. As much as RawrGirl would love to hit goal (129) by Christmas, she recognizes that 135 is probably much more realistic. :p

Rawrgirl sounds like she has become less hysterically anal about the upcoming weekend and has perhaps found a little bit of faith in herself :D Enjoy.

I agree, RawrGirl you sound so relaxed and happy these days, it's great!

Does drooling burn many calories?! Because I did a LOT reading through your post!! It all sounds so delicious, I hope you really enjoy it. You are lucky that you have sugar-free varieties of almost everything over there too.

Perhaps actually seeing 138.5 for the first time in 14 years allowed RawrGirl to realize she really did make it, and she no longer has to guess. Also, when she was "hysterical" was not having a plan and fearing a binge that would add 15 pounds to her. Now she has a plan, with some real food and desserts mixed in, delicious soups for lunch so she's not over eating at every meal, and is slowly learning to not stuff her self to the brink of capacity.

Plus, she feels confident that she will get right back on track. In the past, holiday weight gain led to months of slacking off as Summer feels far away in January, lol. And she feels to good in her new clothes to not ensure she gets right back into them.

I agree, RawrGirl you sound so relaxed and happy these days, it's great!

Thanks! RawrGirl doesn't *feel* fat for the first time in 14 years...she likes that feeling! One thing that she hasn't talked much about lately that is probably also contributing is her figure skating...more on that in next post.

We do have a lot of sugar-free stuff (I didn't realize you didn't. :( ) However, if you like to cook and bake (as RawrGirl assumes as you took cooking classes), she has many recipes she can share with you to make low sugar varieties of stuff from scratch. You may have to get a few baking ingredients shipped oversees, but it would probably be worth it.

Figure Skating Update

Okay...so RawrGirl is pretty sure she failed to mention that a few months ago she was seriously considering giving up figure skating when her membership expired (end of November). This was due to the fact that since she could no longer afford classes (since March), and thus had barely progressed. She'd spent 6 months practicing this move called a 3-Turn and was no closer to being able to do it.

Then, this elderly gentleman who she has mentioned before, said he was no longer going to come to this rink. (RawrGirl goes skating Mon and Wed because those are the 2 days he goes which gives her someone to talk to). Anyway...a few months ago he hired a coach, but apparently, after a few weeks realized his body could not advance/progress (he's in his 70's). For the last few years, he'd been hoping to find a pair partner, but no one was interested, which led him to turn to coaching. When that too didn't work out, he decided to give up. He'd asked RawrGirl a million times to be his partner, but RawrGirl was really only interested in solo.

So the point is...RawrGirl knew that if he stopped coming, she wouldn't bother to skate or renew her membership. But not wanting to give up, RawrGirl then asked if he he had a partner would he keep the coach. And he said yes, and that if RawrGirl was his partner, he would pay for the coaching, the costumes, and the exhibition fees. So naturally RawrGirl said YES!

Within a week after her first coaching lesson, she could do a 3-Turn. (She'd been practicing it wrong for 6 months!) Since then, she's had about 3 or 4 coaching sessions, and can even spin now! Last session (Wednesday), the coach taught her and the gentleman their routine for the exhibition (in March). And today, they practiced it for an hour, and though some parts still need work, they did great. (It's a really beautiful routine.)

All this is to say, that this is really the first sport RawrGirl has ever done, and she's always found figure skating beautiful, and now she is finally feeling more confident and graceful on the ice, which, coupled with her reaching 138.5 for the first time in 14 years, has helped her feel confident and graceful off the ice.

So yea...this is probably explains a relaxed happy RawrGirl. :)
