C25K beginners - struggle with W1D1

Well I've been full of good intentions for restarting up on this, was shocked to realise that I've not been out using the app since the 17th of April!! I decided I was gonna go to the gym after work on Friday morning( I am on nights at the moment) and make a start-I have a reason for this which I'll explain in a min lol!
I figured I may as well have a go at wk5 day2 which was where I got to, and as I was going to be running on a treadmill, thought it would be easier! I did my 5 min warm up and then my first 8 min run at 7.5-8k/hr, and then instead of walking for 5 mins I just slowed down my run/jog to 6.8, then picked the pace up. I stuck at 7.5 and did the next 8 mins 4 times over before a light jog and then walk to cool down. I ended up doing 5.4k in just over 45 mins! Was thrilled to bits as I've not done anything for atleast a month :)
The reason ive stepped up my game is obviously from a general fitness point of you, but it's been spurred on by the fact I have been on a date with a new guy and he's an ex-marine! So need to pull my finger out to have any hope of keeping up with him! Lol! He runs stupid speeds but has said he'll come running with me to help me get back out on the roads and build it up properly! It's awesome :) I still can believe I managed that run after a 12 hour night shift-and am planning on doing the same again when I finish tonight :)

Well I didn't manage to go out Saturday morning after work-in fact Saturday was a disaster! I finished at 7am and mum asked me to go and check the horse as he had been left out in the field over night! He was fine so went home to bed! Managed to get 3 hours sleep and that was it! Just couldn't get back to sleep how ever hard I tried! Was completely drained and just lay in bed til about 1pm! I got up and went for a walk but couldn't face anything else!!
Yesterday when i finished I was goosed as had only had 3 hours sleep since Friday afternoon! So slept for most of the day.
Decided about an hour ago that I was going to go to the gym with the sole aim of running 5k on the treadmill again-but faster than Thursday! So am just about to get ready! Quite ironically mr marine has just text to ask if I've been running again lol!! Spooky stuff! Ha ha

Ha ha! I ended up going for a 3 mile walk first with my friend and her dogs! It's such a gorgeous afternoon, we coulda stayed out all day, but she had to get her daughter ready for pony club! I ended up going to the gym and running again! I managed to run for 54 mins( well 50 really with a 4 min cool down) and use the 45 min run thing on my C25k app! Was really pleased cos I run slowly, between 7.0 and 8.5 k/h so my aim was to beat my result from Friday morning! On Friday I actually did 5.2k in 50 mins, and today I did 5.9k in 54 mins so further and for longer(sure there is probably some royal marine double entendre in there somewhere lol)
Am really pleased an now off to play with my friends ponies :)
Weigh in tomorrow tho so hope all the exercise and stuff does impact my weigh in! Oh well-let's just think about the long term health benefits :) yeyyyy

That's a good idea. Do they still have places? x :)

Did Wk8d3 last night. Seem to be having trouble with my legs though. Stamina wise I could keep going but the tops of my thighs (especially my right one) are really hurting by the end of 28mins. Maybe it's just my body adjusting. Seem to remember getting pain lower down in my thighs a few weeks back (which I no longer get now). Think it's muscular pain as oppose to joint pain. Not sure whether to re-do wk8 or just head straight to wk9 tomorrow & see how I get on.

Has anyone else had similar problems? x :)

I had a tweaky bit at the top of my thigh, then my knee hurt. I tried to run two days consecutively and my legs didn't like it. I am back to running every other day and touch wood all seemed ok today although I was careful not to push myself too hard. Slow and steady today.

Just Jools are you running outside or on treadmill? If outside, try varying your surfaces eg. run on any bits of (relatively smooth!) grass you can or, best of all, on a trail. Or you could try treadmill to ease off your joints a bit. If you are already running on the treadmill on 0% gradient try taking it up to 0.5% or 1% - apparently it's easier on your joints!

To those who are running on treadmills and want to run outside - look at it this way - outside you can run as slowly as you want without the treadmill numbers telling you to try to go faster! Outside runs also pass much quicker time-wise once you get up to those super-boring 20 minutes and beyond on the treadmill....

Shazz - you bought a treadmill?? What kind, how much etc. I'd love my own treadmill! I could run and watch Holby City....

I've been on holibobs so lost track a bit but I think I just did W7R2 today. Didn't manage much running on holiday... On the treadmill today and slowed it RIGHT down which helped no end. I think I'm ready for that 5K!

Well done Hannah btw!

And well done Welshtigger - for a completely different reason!

xx

If it doesn't feel like it's in the joint and it's at the front it's probably muscular. Possibly the hip flexors tiring - will improve with both adequate rest and increasing fitness. xx

I have a York Treadmill. I absolutely love it. It was so difficult trying to go for a run with a toddler. So now I do 30 mins on the treadmill and 30 mins on my exercise bike and I burn 500 - 600 cals no problem!! I also use it for 30 min walks. I always have my soaps on when I exercise though, either that or The Biggest Loser. Argos have / had them in the sale. Mine was reduced from £500 to £300. I do find I am using it everyday, I'm a bit addicted!! :)

Thanks ladies, I think it's paid off as i lost another 6lbs this week :D so that's doubled my loss from 6lb in 6 weeks to 12lb in 7!!! Have signed up to do the RFL in Solihull with Ellebear and her gang on the 26th of June and have got a 'hot running date' with Mr Marine when he gets back from his 2 weeks training :D
Really need to start motoring as still got atleast 7 stone to lose! But the first time ever I can genuinely say 'IM LOVING IT' :D :D

That's great!! Looks like you have a busy couple of weeks. Good for you signing up for RFL!! :)

Just done week 8 day 2, only 4 more runs to go!!!

I exercised quite early this morning (6.00am) so found the first few mins a bit hard, but once I was through that I was fine. I don't normally run until mid morning normally and have much more energy by then!

Just Jools are you running outside or on treadmill?

Have the good fortune of living beside the seaside!! :D So depending on tides I run on the beach when I can. Otherwise I vary it between road & park running (is that trail? probably not!! lol ;) - would have to travel further afield for that I think). x :)

If it doesn't feel like it's in the joint and it's at the front it's probably muscular. Possibly the hip flexors tiring - will improve with both adequate rest and increasing fitness. xx

Googled that & think that's exactly what it is. Will try to take things steady & not aggravate it & hope my fitness levels improve quickly!! x

It's not a major problem right now, it bothers me a bit when I'm out but recovery once I'm back seems quite quick & I'm not in any pain when I'm not running. Will keep an eye on it though. Thanks guys. x :D

I'm running every other day too but hope to be able to run daily when I'm fitter (can't believe I actually said that!!). x :D

I need a new goal - so instead of aiming for 10k I'm going to increase my pace.

I'm going to do C25K again - instead of alternating walking and jogging - I'm going to alternate jogging and running.

Will do the first few runs on the treadmill so I can play with speeds. I know 8.8 is a comfortable jogging pace for me. I need to find a running pace that stretches me a bit too!

What do you think team C25K?? xx

That's a great idea Hannah! I went to the gym late on tonight cos I finished work at 7pm, I had the spaniels to walk, then my bestie to pick up from the train station at 1!came home and was going to have an early night but decided to go to the gym instead! Decided to change what I did! Instead of running 5k, I ran 1mile(1.6k) as fast as I could, which for me was 12.5mins! :) then once I hit 1.6k i carried on to 3.6k at a slower pace!

Did Wk9d1 last night, can't believe there are only 2 runs left!!

Are people who have got that B210K app starting straight on that after finishing C25K or doing a few weeks just running 5k to increase fitness/stamina/pace etc? x :)

That's a good idea but as I only run outside I'm not sure I'd be able to do that.

Good luck. x :)
