'Chasing Butterflies' - Team 7

Hi Ladies,

Thanks for all the Thanksgiving good wishes. My DH and I went to out to dinner at the club on post, where we saw a few families we knew (that was nice because I didn't feel so bad about not cooking and having people over per tradition). I was pretty good about what I put on my plate and limited myself to one plate, incl. the salad on it.

I did eat a small piece of pie (left most of crust) and met up with one of my son's friends serving it (that was nice kind of a substitute son visit). Later, I spoke with my sister-in-law, niece and son back in the States... and both families (New York and Florida) were doing the family dinner get together -- and I was glad to hear it.

Then, not wanting to waste my "bonus" day off, I went and got my hair done (full head highlights, etc.) -- this is big splurge for me. My hair grows fast so I can't justify getting it coloured professionally on regular basis. I am very pleased with the result, and hope that this will compensate for being heavier this year at the company Christmas party than I was last (next Friday night).

Re: regaining wight lost. Unfortunately, it is very easy to gain weight back. Due to being on a VLCD your body becomes very efficient: so, for every 3,500 extra calories you consume you'll gain a pound. I only needed 1400 calories a day to maintain. when I was at my lowest weight of about 9 stone 3 lbs. That means I was consuming about an extra 235 calories day (still less than 1800 per day!), as I added back about 2 pounds a month. Then I went on holiday and gained about 2 per week!

So, unless I am doing a lot of exercise (for me) I can very easily consume too many calories. Once I realized that I was approaching having put nearly 2 stone back on: I decided to try LLL. It didn't work for me. I moved on to CD. I have taken off about 1/2 a stone and still want to lose at least 1 1/2 stone. I have not taken up exercising regularly again but wil have to, with the understanding that it HAS to become a part of life for all time.

I have had a CS shake and some coffee so far today. I am going to try very hard to stick to the plan, I know I can lose weight if I do this -- I did before. And, hopefully, this time I will stay committed once I am maintaining.

I hope everyone has a fantastic Friday. I am going to go post on the "Atta Girl" thread, as I have already accomplished few things today instead of eating!

Hi H2LB,

Sorry you feel so tired -- could you have SAD (seaonal affective disorder).

I know I have problems with the lack of light this time of year, and it seriously affects my energy levels and carbohydrate cravings. I have been diagnosed with SAD and have a light box (which I need to use regularly and have not been). I should also be exercising more in the winter months, because that helps.

I never had a weight problem until I moved to the UK (for the first time) in November of 1994 (I was 33 and had one child, lost all the baby weight within six or so months). However, on this dark island -- I gained between 2 and 3 stone in five months, and was never able to successfully take it all off. I'd lose 10 or maybe even 20 pounds, then slowly put it back on.

Last year, I finally did LL and took it (plus the weight I started to gain after years of holding steady at very overweight) off. I maintained it for about five months, then started gaining back (after I stopped exercising). However, I am on my way down w/o having put all (or even half of it) back on. Am I annoyed that I allowed myself to gain so much back, of course I am. But, it easier to do than you can possibly imagine.

So, back to your energy and fatigue issues: Can you open a blind and soak up some natural light (it is a bit sunny near Huntingdon at the moment)? Also, can you take a little break and move around (exercise helps)?

Answering your question: my LLC had a device that you held in your hands and it did the calcualtions once you put in the required data (height, weight, age, etc.) -- it tested out your water to fat ratio, etc.

I have a scale (there are several available) that will do the same. It sends an electric pulse through your feet (no shock or anything) and will track your water/fat/muscle ratios -- it is very inspriational when you aren't showing a loss because it tracks change. I noticed that my water would go up and up, then I'd have a sudden drop in weight and the water/fat would be reversed. Anyway, the scale calculates how many calories you need to maintain your weight. And to lose, you consume fewer.

I dont think its SAD i have just had probs sleeping the last week or so and plus there is so many of us at work so not as busy therefore i am bored bored bored! would rather be at home....in bed of course lol!

I have a set of those scales that measure all that i just never use it for that...afraid of the answer it will give lol!

I might go for a stroll and grab a coke zero...give me some energy shame we'r not allowed red bull aye lol!

What are your plans for today?

Hi,

I have been doing mending to keep my hands busy and mind off eating. I am almost finished with the pile I had sitting in the livingroom. (I am sure I have more elsewhere.)

I am also doing a little laundry... but as my DH is off from work and our daughter is at school (Americans usually get the day after Thanksgiving off, too), I thought we'd have a date. We were going to watch Twilight on DVD, then go see New Moon... but I cannot locate the Twilight DVD; I think my teenage neighbour still has it. LOL

DH says he'll go without seeing the first one, so I think we will go anyway. I want to see it - and we seldom go out because our kids keep us busy in the evenings, and now that our son is in the States at uni, we'd have to leave our daughter with a sitter. And, that means planning ahead!

So, as our daughter has an after school club today, and the teenagers are in school until after 3 (it will be less crowded) we're going to go to the 2:15 showing and then pick up our DD.

When do you get off from work?

Afternoon girls!

I'm having a good day off work so far. Have only just managed my first shake as have been busy cleaning my Aga this morning! Got up early and decided that the cottage was sooooo cold that I'd get back under the duvet with my moggies, only to discover later that I had no hot water and the Aga had gone out and was stone cold - argh! This is when I really wish that I had central heating! Anyway, lucky that I don't need to cook as it won't be up to full temperature until tomorrow, and thankfully I have an electric shower, so haven't had to wash in cold water. Obviously I can't boil a kettle, so it's going to have to be bar and shakes today - although I really could do with something warm! Oh well, wood-burning stove's lit in my sitting room, so hopefully it will take the chill out of the building...

So, got to decide what to do next to keep warm! My kitchen does need a serious blitz since my dresser gathers dust, so maybe that should be priority number one. Then again, my whole cottage is under dust and cobwebs - it's one of these old cottages where dust comes through the beams etc and so is never ever dust free! Also need to go to the pet superstore to get cat food - I daren't go to the supermarket to buy it!

Struggling with the water so far today as cold water is not really appreciated right now. Need to just get a grip!

Right! Time to do something constructive.....!

Hi Wadpol,

Despite the inconviences, your home sounds lovely. I think you can drink tea to make up your water. Why not pick up some green or flavoured hot teas (from the leaf not root). Although, I drink ginger tea and it does not affect my ketosis.

I hope you have a lovely day -- and get that cat food, asap. Cats will stay mad at your forever. lol

MM

MM - I have a house full of tea! Am a huge fan of Dragonfly tea (lots of green, rooibos etc - Dragonfly Teas - Home - hard to find in supermarkets as Twinings pay for smaller producers to not be stocked (*******s!)), but problem is that my kettle boils on the Aga - I don't have an electric one, so until the Aga is hot (tomorrow), no hot water for me!!

Wadpol,

It's a message -- time to buy an electric kettle.

MM

Nah! That would be no fun at all! Think I may have a thermos in the attic..... may bimble to the farmer up the lane with it......

Hi Shanny,

What kind of college student are you? In bed so early on a Friday night! Gosh, in my day... oh, never mind -- you might actually learn something more than how to tie a knot in a cherry stem whilst in school. Have a good weekend -- if you need a proof-read on your paper let me know. I'm a teacher.

Hey Shanny,

I'm doing well, thanks. Actually, I am working as a TA not a teacher at the moment. I only want to work part-time and not bring work home with me.

A have a sign someone gave me when I was in grad school, it reads: "If it wasn't for the last minute, a lot of stuff would never get done." LOL

Ladies

Quick question - how much/what exercise does everyone do each day/week? Does it make any difference at WI?

I'm trying to do at least an hour of cardio/strengthening on good back days - I am so unfit at the moment. Also it's lovely that my collar bones have reappeared in the last week, but my butt is still the size of a bus!

Hi girls,
At work and finally got chance for a break. Love talking to the pts but its the hrs of writing up that p's me off, fear of litigation keep you on your toes! Sleep today and work again tonight so thats my exciting weekend...:(!

H2LB, can use this site to get your calorific needs, but remember to do the harris benedict equation on the site afterwards to account for activity level.

Pol, loving the real fires/aga scene, but i am way to lazy and cold to be bothered with all that, I'm a central heating girl! I feel so much colder now i have lost weight, even when i've dipped out of ketosis, so you'll need thatfire going. I am useless at exercise, can not get it established as a routine right now, despite constant promises to do so. Just cannot find the spare hours in the day!
Hope you enjoyed your 'date' MM.
Well done Shanny on the 100% day, the first few days are hard but you can do it! Look forward to that WI when the scales show a huge drop and you will thank yourself for being so disciplined.
Hope you're feeling better Nicki, sending big get well hugs.
I'm doing well, just ate my 450cal meal and I'm so full, how did i ever eat so much before? Really enjoying it though, and i am staying 100% on plan, which is more than i could say when i was attempting ss or 810 recently. Easy when at work, just hope it continues when otherwise busy at home..!
Speak soon xx

Morning ladies, nibbled again last night dunno whats wrong with me but today i have had a word with myself and will be being good, threw all the food out of my house so i cant eat- and have a lovely 2.25 litre bottle of water at work with me and a soup and a shake and will be sipping on soup today and a shake on lunch then tonight i will have an early night (i hope)....Wish i had more will power but i dnt seem to be able to control anything atm and it is really annoying me!

Fingers crossed as im getting weighed on tues and i need to do better than this...really do!

Hope your all ok xx

Morninggg all im up and ready to dash into town im off to the Algarve on christmas eve morning for 4 nights never been away from home before for crimbo.!!

Day 2 lots of uni work to get on with so hoping i will stay 100% again H2LB come on hun stop nibbling now what plan are u on??
Wadpol im going to start to do aquasize soon for toning at the same time, maybe try that?

"My question can i use mate coffee which is dried milk powder in my coffee"?? Thank u butterfly i always like my first wi's lol.

Right catch you all this afternoon.x

Shanny, if being strict ss or ss+ then its a big NO to the coffeemate. I learned to like black coffee, as long as its not too strong or bitter. Some people get away with 'cheats' and still stay in ketosis, but you will be compromising your loss rate. Depends what it more important to you......? xx
