Your FIL who has severe dementia only ever manages to say Bye and No, actually focused on my face today, and when I said "it's been do nice to see you Les" he said "Thankyou"!

My husband was so happy and made up!

(I haven't seen FIL for years as Hubby didn't want me to see him like that but I had to drive them as Paul can't drive).
