Everyday's a SW day :) x

Hey Miss K!

I hope you are feeling a bit better today. I reckon your queasiness could be down to your body giving you the finger after the weekend of naughties!!!! I know you didn't wanna post it, but the devil inside is desparate to know a little bit of what went on?! I can live vicariously through you!

Anyway, I think the best thing to do when you have overindulged is drink water, and lots of it. In fact that is kinda my mantra these days. If you have been piggy, drink water, if you have a cold, drink water, stomach bug, drink water. I firmly believe that water cures all ills and flushes whatever cr!p you have inside you out. Have you ever noticed if you have had an oily meal and you drink water, that your wee has a light film on top of it? That's fat. Your poo (sorry TMI) isn't the only thing that gets rid of cr!p, your wee does too.... get onto a couple of litres of water.

Where do you get your wraps from? I love the look of your pizzas!

the wraps are the wheat/gluten free ones we can have as a HEb - Bfree is the make and i got them in asda (£2.80 for 6 though!!)

didn't know the fat came out in our pee too...every day's a school day and i'm quite good at drinking lots and always have at least 2litres of fluid a day

ooh the food.....do you have to remind me! lol

valentine's day saw me consume cheesecake, crisps and to much chocolate and on saturday i was working and took non sw friendly foods with me...had weetabix and banana before i left the house (thinking yeah, this will fill me for longer...FAIL) my colleague had a huge bag of biscuits on her desk...she wasn't in...i was...i ate them...a LOT!
had a sandwich and crisps for lunch and indian for dinner followed by more chocolates at night

sunday i didn't eat til late afternoon where i had a WHITE roll on square sausage and an empire biscuit....bloody delightful!
then i had fish, chips and garden peas for dinner...along with everyone else which wasn't only delicious but nice to sit at the same time cos we all had the same thing which was ready at the same time!

thank god i'm giving the scales a miss til the end of the month eh! oh i also forgot about the piece of bounty fudge slice thing which is what started it all of on friday...when i bought some for my OH, and one wee bite to taste turned into me eating the whole thing and thinking...could i have the other bit cos he doesn't even know i've got it haha.

it was nice to have most of it...some of it i knew was just for the sake of it cos i was "off it" anyway but god how easy would it be to graze on junk all day and have consumed thousands of calories!

prob gonna be off plan this weekend too as we're away for a wedding...but that's always been planned for feb...last weekend wasn't!
so yep, yesterday was def my karma i think...shame it never decided to give me some sickness/diarrhoea at the same time and i'd welllll feel less guilty haha

done now though and back to "normal" so long may it last ;)

hope you're good x

sausage sandwich

Syns:
sausages - 1
ketchup - 1
hoops and crosses - 4.5
mini milky bar - 3.5

10 in total for the day

before i forget, can anyone recommend some low syn oil i could use when i'm making the egg fried rice?
tonight's ended up soggy cos i was trying to keep it low so it wouldn't burn, but in the end i had to turn the heat up to cook the egg but in the process, i used half a tub of fry light and it stuck to the wok anyway!

the oil i had in the back of the cupboard was 6 syns for 1 tbsp!...no thanks! def think a wee drop oil would make all the difference...even just to put in when i'm blasting it for the egg to set?

was still edible but not as good as last week's....got a wee drop left over for lunch tomorrow minus the chicken so a handy green day lunch for me :) x

hey glad your back on track :) why dont you use frylight??? or that 6 syns could be used on your healthy b, thats what im doing today cz ive ran out of FL but id only do it every now and again, I dont know any low syns ones sorry xx

i've been using the frylight chick...but it sticks to my wok really bad :(
i tried to cook it low tonight so it wouldn't burn...but the rice ended up really soggy cos it kinda sat in the egg for a while before it had set.

i wouldn't ever use a HEb on oil of some sort....not when i could "eat" it instead lol.

need to have a look i think...not that i'd use it often but i do think it would make such a difference when it came to making this :) x

Hmm, a sticky bottom tricky situation!!!

I have stopped using fry light, I didn't like it, instead now I used Costcos Canola Oil, which is a spray oil rather than a spritzer - but of course that only helps when you are a Costco member, which not many are but everyone should be!! It's a great place - anyhow, I am going off subject.

Did you use cold rice when frying? Because fresh cooked hot rice, of even warm rice doesn't work. It needs to be cold, and separated like run under a cold tap to make sure all the starch is out and it preferably needs to be dry.

Secondly what I do, because this can make the rice claggy, is cook the egg before I mix with the rice. Then put the scrambled egg in with the rice. The best way is obvs to use oil, If you have an authentic wok (which I don't) it needn't be a tablespoon, just enough to coat the bottom, plus if you do use a tbsp and cook enough for two or three portions , that's only 2-3 syns.

- I love egg fried rice as have tried many times over the years to perfect it and I have now. I actually use a non stick pan with spray oil, then at the end run a teeny bit of sesame oil through it, for that nutty taste. I also use a bit of Chinese 5 spice as also curry powder, and some soy sauce. It's wonderbar!!

shame i had thought the teeny wee tub i took would fill me....FAIL! lol.

i think i'm gonna have a look at oils when i'm shopping next. there must be a healthy one where you say, i'd only need a teeny wee drop?
will nosey next time i'm out :)

i'm currently trying to google information on tray bake (eeeek!)
i want to try and make that bounty slice thing (the devil one that started my badness from the weekend lol) for my OH...but struggling to work out which biscuits are used most in a traybake type slice?
don't think it was hobnobs....not sure it was digestives either tho? hmmm....any ideas?x

I haven't heard of a tray bake, what's that? Is it like a cheese cake? That's the only thing I can think of with a biscuit base. Or like a fridge cake? I must go and google tray bakes, I don't know what they are but I really want one now!!!!!

lol..
maybe it's more a scottish thing...like if you buy peppermint slice(biscuit base, pepperment layer then chocolate) etc...you with me?

if you went to a cafe here...or a butcher
1947429_518254861628000_1873024588_n.jpgs that sells yummy's too then they might have either made them themselves or bought them in...and sell them individually?

think it might be digestive but dunno...but this is what i want to attempt....eeeek! lol x

Oh goodness gracious me, that looks to die for.

Please give the recipe!!!

Oh goodness gracious me, that looks to die for.

Please give the recipe!!!

i don't have one :(
but looking at it (and tasting it last week) i think it might be biscuits crushed then mixed with melted butter (maybe syrup too?) then a layer of caramel type stuff, layer of coconut mixed in condensed milk? and choc on top?

this is what i think it might be...but dunno? can't be trusted to go to the cafe to ask...without buying half her display lol, so might wait until it's there again and maybe ask if i go in for some? it was SUPER sweet...after 2 bites i thought eurgh, this it too sweet...then munched the rest! pmsl.

my OH didn't know what it was cos it was wrapped up and the next day at work, he text and was like MY GOD, what was that thing...it was MEGA hehe

i know i shouldn't try to make it...cos i WILL eat it...but i reeeeally want to try :-/ x

Well when you do make it, please post some to lil ole me in Essex!!!!!

10 for the day

hey guys...how are you all?

well i'm back after my weekend away, had a great time at the wedding - so nice to see old faces and of course, spend some proper time with my OH.
lots of off plan foods but back to homemade, healthier foods :)

i weighed on friday and i know it was only 3 weeks and not 4 as planned, but i knew i was away and have something on this week too so thought i might end up facing a gain if i weighed this week which is the part i want to avoid!
i had a STS and after 3 weeks, i guess that's not ideal...but i've not been 100% for those whole 3 weeks and yes, i wanted to see even a wee loss, but at least i didn't have the ups and downs the weeks in between cos the chances are, it was probably a loss, a gain then a loss again?

anyway...i've been doing a lot of thinking over the weekend...mostly about sw v calories and i do think sw is fab the way it promotes healthy eating, and teaches us how we can have good, healthier meals and incorporate lots of veg etc into them. most of the time, we don't feel we're missing out when we're digging into pasta dishes with cheese, burgers, "chips" etc BUT i've started to become aware of how easily food abuse could happen not to mention the amount of calories we're "allowed" to eat guilt free!

i've started planning food for work tomorrow using sw free foods but using a 1500 calorie rule....so far, i've not even planned dinner....or my healthy extra's and i'm over 1000 calories already!!!

that's based on fruit salad and a boiled egg before work, rice pudding, berries, yog, quorn chilli pasta bake and some dahl loaf.
to be honest, it's shocked me a bit! cos i'd also have my average 10 syns too...which is another 200 calories!

i love not counting or measuring but i find it hard to make sense of situations like - oh, i've no syns left for the day....that's ok, i can have a muller light, a mugshot and a full 1/2 syn roulade if i want...cos they're free.
that "free" food would be 100 cals for the yog, 250 for the mugshot and with 4 eggs and quark in the roulade...say another 400? (ish)

how is that right?

dunno if i'm going to end up messing my head up comparing the two...i know sw doesn't calorie count but come on...we need to aware...and be sensbile...surely?

things like nuts, seeds, avocados etc...foods that are so much more better for us that processed mugshots or yogs full of aspartame have to be syn'd (if we don't wanna use a HEb etc) and in reality....if i can have a bit of chocolate for less syns than something that is more healthy....how is that better?

think i'm waffling on but hope it makes sense...kinda! lol

i'm not sure what to do...i know if i was calorie counting, the types of food i would eat would change...but for me, i want to enjoy my food (which i do on sw) and i want the food to be filling (who likes being hungry) and i understand that some of the science behind sw is that we eat dense foods which break down differently....but why is it the crime of the century to eat a sandwich on white bread (yes i get that wholemeal is better...but so are granary and seeds etc) and why do we start to then justify a gain cos "we had a tiger bread roll...eeekk.....with butter....OMG!
i get that going from one food to another will have an impact on our bodies..but if we were having a mixture, and eating calories that we need, or less....then surely we'd be losing weight as well as keeping our bodies fuelled?

oh god...the more i type, the more i realise this view is just a tiny bit of what is out there....weight and foods can be such a complex issue!

i don't want to go back to processed/junk foods all day every day (well actually, that's a lie lol, but i know i have to be sensible for a healthier body inside) but at the end of the day...surely PART of it is to do with the amount of calories i'd be eating that day?

the other day, i was hungry and had a finger of shortbread....1 finger...at 100 calories.
initially i though oh ffs...that's 5 syns gone already! but then part of me thought...ok, it's 5 syns...but it's also only 100 calories...and if i had a bit of my dahl loaf, it would be the same amount!
yes, completely different nutrients...but i'm talking about the guilt part....the guilt that sometimes would make me have a complete blow out because i'd gone over my syns anyway! this time, i just thought...don't stress...it's 100 calories!

eurgh! dunno if anything makes sense now...my head is pickled thinking about the ratio but i'm aware that if i want to lose weight, i need to take some of this into account

i loved it all at first...how i could eat freely thru the day then NOT feel bad for having the goodies...it really took me to a better place mentally...and now i'm just wondering if i can get to that place again...using both??
after over a year of doing sw...i'm aware that i could easily, abuse the free foods or be taking in way more calories than i need...with no guilt??!

:confused::confused::confused::confused:

Oh Miss K! I really feel your pain there. You are going through exactly what I went through when I officially stopped doing SW. SW is very unique with the limitless portions sizes etc, but it also encourages you to eat what I call fake foods, sweetners etc. The healthy foods in my mind are nuts and avocados etc etc. Foods that are no-nos on SW. And the whole syn thing used to get to me too, a bag of crisps being less syns than say half an avocado! I hated that I had to count something ridiculous, but on WW for example, you have to count fruit! On calorie-control diet, you have to have smaller portions. It was all a bit of a confusion to me. Every diet you consider means you have to deprive yourself of something. So I thought to myself, what can I live without....To me it was simple, I ate way too much portion-wise on SW, so I figured I could control my portions and that would be easy, also snacking...if I had 3 decent meals a day, surely I wouldn't need snacks? And if I did, they should be fruit based or something healthy. I guess its what you find easiest. SW has worked for you so far, but you are a bit bored. Why not try a week or two of healthy eating? Cutting back on portions, eating fresh healthy foods and steering clear of processed foods/snacky sweet stuff, have your tiger baguette, but only have a 3 inch portion.

This morning I was totally unprepared and didn't have time to organise my B and L today, I really fancied a ham and mustard sandwich for breakfast! I don't know why but that's what I wanted. So i went to Boots and got one, but I only ate half of it and I will have the other half for tomorrow's breakfast, no synning was required. Before, I would have wolfed the lot down regardless, but after I ate it I gave it 5 mins and realised it filled me up and I didn't need to spoil my diet by eating the other half and then having lunch on top of that and not really being hungry. So I put it away for tomorrow. Don't get me wrong, I am still mindful of how much cheese I have per day and HEB etc. but I no longer worry about having a little of what I fancy...as long as it is a little! I have full fat greek yog most mornings, with a bit of honey and a banana, but I now only have 2 tbsps of yog and a tiny squirt of honey. Its all in proportion now (except this weekend when I went off the reservation!).

Give yourself a break, have a re-think and see what works best for you.

thanks for this Charley...it's all just hard and i think my over thinking of things (be it this and other stuff happening in my life just now) is just getting to me a wee bit.

i thought today, i'd make the things i usually do - following SW...but try and track calories too...just out of interest and to see how i go. it's bloody hard trying to count things made from scratch...calorie counting is definitely easier from packaged foods lol

i made a big pot of quorn chilli, have 2 portions in the freezer and with the rest, i made a pasta bake. added 150g pasta to it and 60g cheese and got 4 portions from it - had one for lunch and 1 again for tomorrow...but it's coming it at over 300 calories which i don't think i expected!

i'll be posting my food later for the day...but so far i've planned in dinner and my usual evening goodies...i'm sitting with 61 calories left for the day...but still have, according to SW, 1 HEb left and 1.25 HEa's "to have"?!

i'm hungry and part of me is thinking....make up your mind...if you're doing SW...then go eat! and if not...then you'll need to wait til dinner time!

i know it's worked for me and the only reason i haven't had great losses since december...is cos i haven't been 100% all the time - no other reason cos last year, i stuck to plan ALL the time...pretty much until november.
i don't really know where the thoughts of calories have come from....i think it's the battle between the having to use so many syns for something that really isn't much...but i do understand why SW works for people...and really, cos i'm an all or nothing type person...having junk on and off since before xmas has made it more difficult.

it doesn't help that we could all probably look at a food and guess, if not, know, how many calories it has or how good/bad it was for us but i dunno what's changed for me to take me back to the over thinking and thoughts consuming me again re food :sigh:

i know if i go for calorie counting only, i would really be eating different stuff - ie easier to track....it took me fekin ages trying to work out 250g quorn mince, 4 mushrooms, a red and green pepper, tinned tomatoes, onion, kidney beans etc etc for the chilli...best part of it was...i was so busy trying to work it out, i wasn't eating! haha

i recognise now, more than ever, that i have my HE's "cos i've still to use them up for the day" and although they're there for fibre intake/dairy, i've seen me eating them just for...and i've also noticed that when i'm off plan...i can't just be off it for the one meal that's involved with the social thing...i cram in everything that's off limits when i'm on plan 100%....no need!!!

it's a bloody minefield isn't it!

your food lately has looked yummy...and to me, it's looked like it's been full of things that are seen to be (by some!) a good, healthy choice!

it's a shame we can't switch our thoughts off for the day isn't it....xx

Its funny because another minifriend of mine Cheese Thief, has been calorie counting alongside SWing and she is not losing, she is missing HEBs and HEAs and only having south of under 1000 calories per day and wondering why she isn't losing.

Honestly. I think you should do one or the other. It doesn't scientifically work. By counting cals, you are effectively missing out on those all important HEAs and HEBs which, remember are the fiber and calcium that we need everyday. I think counting cals is an ok diet, but I think it is a diet for mainly lazy cookers, who would rather just eat ready meals and snacks. Its so much easier to control and I think I would do this but for the fact that I believe home cooked food is better. Who wants to sit and work out a home cooked meal from scratch? Who wants to add the calories for an apple? carrot? Those things shouldn't be overlooked for a 164 cal bag of crisps in my opinion.

The reason why I am doing my own thing is purely because I want the foods that are beneficial to my body. I don't want to fill it with fake cr!p anymore. Of course I want to lose weight, but I want to do it the right way. Slowly and surely.

And of course, all diets only work if you stick to them!!!

i follow Bev's diary too (she's fab isn't she!) and have often thought how are you not starving! lol (sorry for when you read this Bev! hehe)

but i hear what you're saying and in all honesty, i hear myself saying the same thing...to others though! (typically!)

because i make everything from scratch (give or take the odd mugshot or the savoury rice in my dahl loaf) it would be so hard trying to work everything out...so you're right....the lazy eating, pre packed stuff would def be easiest and of course, i don't want to go back to "ding" meals and processed stuff.

thank you for everything you've said...i think i just need to chill out a bit!x

You are right, you just need to chill out a bit I think. SW works and thats that. You just need to follow SW, if that's the way you want to go, and it WILL work. If you scrimp and save up syns and HEs you are not doing the diet correctly any more than if you cheat! There is a science to it and the science works, but if you deviate (cheat or starve) then no, it won't work. It works both ways.

Give yourself a break Miss K. If you want to try healthy eating, then try it, you might thrive from it. If not, go back to what you know.

xxx

Maybe you just need to go back to basics for a little while.
