Evilpenguin's food diary

You'll get a job eventually, took me 6 months, then I was offered 2 on the same day, actually I was offered my current job within an hour of accepting the other one. And if they don't offer you a job to start with, don't think thats the end, the job i have now, I had the interview in september '10, and got offered the job february '11. After taking someone else on they opened another job up and offered it to me before anyone else. So if you don't get the job straight off don't think thats the end, still a chance even when they say no to start with.

We're the same with fruit and veg until thursday, don't need it tomorrow cos i will be out (and off slimming world for the day) but otherwise we have a few apples, a banana and some extemely overripe melon. And veg ain't much better!

It's so frustrating though eh? I thought it'd maybe take 3 months! I didn't realise how hard it would be. I think that working full time since I left school had left me completely oblivious to the lack of jobs out there  lol. I went on a career break thinking oh I'll just get a job in Tesco.. didn't happen! The fact I can only work certain hours cos of college has really added to the struggle - most offices don't want someone in for only 2 days a week, and they don't tend to be open at weekends, then retail jobs all want experience - not someone who's been in admin! I resorted to asking my old work if I could go back early and work on site, as those jobs are more suited to the hours I need, nope.. don't want me back lol. It's getting hard to stay enthusiastic for interviews. At the start of my search I had a really promising interview at the garden centre, hours were perfect and they seemed to be really interested in me, called me back for a 2nd interview and were talking about when I could start etc.. I didn't ever hear back from them, not even a "sorry you didn't get it" letter or anything :sigh: Then I had another interview for kitchen work, which I've done before, but the interview was a let down - the guy couldn't speak English very well and he didn't understand me, and he kept going on about how it was a strict company to work for.. He didn't have a clue how to interview (I have interviewed people as part of my last job so I sort of know this stuff!) I just felt a bit robbed that I wasn't even given a real interview. Makes me feel a bit messed around :( so when I send off these applications I have absolutely no hope now lol. I know I need to stay positive!! But it's so hard!! :(

Anyway!!!

Enjoy your day off! What's the occasion?? :D xx

Hope you find something soon chick it's upsetting how hard it is out there. I do have my job to go back to when I heal but I hate it with a burning passion been looking for something else for ages. 4 years at uni for a degree and I would be in a better position now if I hadn't bothered :(

I'm the opposite I have retail experience but would rather get into a mon to fri 9-5 job, getting weekends to yourself and not having to start work at 7am would be lovely but they are not interested if you don't have the experience. x

!

What is it that you're doing just now? What did you study? I am about to a degree and the bf keeps saying how there's no jobs for me at the end of it - cheery eh? I've got 4 1/2 years before I need to worry about that! I hope the recession will be over in that time anyway!!

I spent ages looking for a different job when I was in my old one. I had 4 years experience and they still didn't want me. One of the posts I went for had something like 1500 applicants - I was very lucky to even get the interview! That was the one and only interview I got in a whole 2 years of searching. That was tiring and demotivating - applying for a different job every day and not getting anywhere. And I had a job then, I didn't really "need" to apply for them. Now I genuinely need a job it's even worse.

But, I totally believe that what is for you won't go past you, so keep looking!! I'm sure you'll get out of your workplace. And I will try to be this positive when it comes to my own job search :D

Yeh hopefully things will be much better by the time you finish your degree so don't let that put you off something you want to do :)

Ummm it's rather embarassing but I work in Greggs the bakers and I have a law degree! :( got bills to pay so sadly can't be fussy! x

That's not embarrassing at all. How do you survive though??? I would be 10 stone heavier in a week

I'm not fussy either but I sort of have to be with the hours I can do, so fussy with hours but not for the type of work :sigh:

I had no experience at all when i was looking for a job, most wouldnt take me cos i was inexperienced, some wouldn't take me cos I had a degree, the other job I was offered I was only put in though the job centre on one of there 6 month placement programmes for those of us that can't find work, I was only there 2 months though before I moved here, to a job that I am qualified for. I hated the other one, it was only admin, but I hated answering the phones cos it was at a football training place and I know naff all about football. Love my current job though. I'm sure you will find one eventually, its finding the right place and employees willing to take a chance on you.

Yeh it's hard being surrounded by food all day!! Luckily now that I'm veggie there isn't any of the sandwiches or pasties that I like but cakes mmmmmmm cakes! It's fine when busy but later on in the day when you're mega bored is when the cakes start talking to you :( bad cakes! x

Cake talks to me in the bakery aisles in supermarkets, but I can run away from them in there  I couldn't cope if I had to work with them! Mind you, when I worked in kitchens I hardly ate anything, being surrounded by it all day put me right off! Ugh I couldn't eat fry ups for ages cos of the smell of breakfast grease every day :(

Just realised I am on Green today  woohoo, 2 B CHOICES!!!!!!! Wish I had more chocolate Oatly now for my 2nd A choice lol. Might have a really milky Options later just cos I can ;) lol

Just saying HIII cause I've been gone for a couple of days, been reading your posts, and I'm looking for a new job too. I hate the one I'm in. And then when you tell people you're looking for a new job they just go "You should be happy you have one in the first place!" which I am, but it doesn't change the fact that I hate it!! >< rah xxx

Hey hun, wondered where you'd been! Welcome back  Good luck with the job search! I know what you mean, when you're already in a post and hate it so much but people keep telling you to stay where you are :(! Keep looking hun you'll get something else!

Oh btw....... I got the job :woohoo: :D :D :D :D :D

So yeah, I got the job! :p I know I mentioned that in my last reply but I wanted to be hyper about it again in this post :D lol. Have been pretty hyper since I got the call! Working over Easter hols which, tbh, does not fill me with excitement, but hey it's money and will be a good start by working full time hours to get to know the place before I go back to college and only work 2 days a week :)
