Extra Easy: My weekly promise - 1 new thing

Im trying stewed rhubarb, not had rhubarb for years and mam used to always do it in a crumble, so going to try doing it myself - nothing exciting this week :)

I had a load of rhubarb recently from someone who grows it - it seems to have grown like mad this year and anyone who has it in their garden has been frantically giving it to all their friends!

It may sound odd, but stewed rhubarb, lightly sweetened, makes a lovely accompaniment to mackerel or other oily fish.

I got given a carrier bag full today lol - im gonna be busy!! It does sound odd  im not a lover of fish though

Not a new thing, but something very simple that I haven't had for years and years - a punnet of salad cress. Not sure why I picked one up at the supermarket yesterday - bit of nostalgia perhaps - but I had forgotten just how nice it is in a sandwich or on top of a salad. And cheap!

Chard (from the beetroot family) for me today in a bag of mixed leaf salad

Is that the one with the red markings on the stems and the veins in the leaves? I always think that looks so pretty in a salad. I am all for having as much colour in salads as possible!

My new thing is today, I'm having rice, chicken, pineapple with melon for tea:rolleyes: I'm undecided about the melon & chicken but we'll see, I've not made it up its a real recipe!!!!!

It could be or it could be beetroot leaves. If you got a little patch of soil or a tub, chard is very easy to grow. I like a variety called 'Bright Lights' which has colourful stems in yellow, orange or red. You can also let it grow and use the leaves like spinach and cook the stems.

Why, oh why do I fail miserably to grow salad cress? It's supposed to be easy peasy to grow!

I wanted to like this post for the originality but didn't want to because it sounds such a weird combination! Where did you get the idea from?

Melon in a savoury dish just sounds wrong!

I'm not sure that I'll manage anything new this week, unless the fact that I'm trying to use up things in my freezer results in odd combinations. I reckon I've got a long way to go to beat Michelle's!

Lol, I went on allrecipes.co.uk for the idea, I wanted to have something with my melon & went here for an idea, it is a 'real' recipe!!!

I'm not sure I'd have it again though.

I'm going to vary my meals this week and stop having the same lunch and tea eeeeeeveryday :)

I fancy some sort of lemon chicken.... I remember seeing a recipe in one of the old magazines... Will have to have a look for it.... Or it might be on the website :)

Had a good loss this week by having a bag of salad everyday for lunch as superfree so the same this week, also going to do 2 5km runs this week :woohoo:
