GREEN DAYS ONLY - systemas diary

Just wish he had brought his own Laptop as we have brilliant internet in the apartment and he could have gone anywhere with it to watch TV but he was going to have a rest from using it because it is what he does all the time at home.
I am going with it because he is going to take a bag of luggage home for me as he only brought hand luggage with him so when I see what I have left when he has gone can go to the tailors and get some more clothes made. :D:D:D
He does not know it yet but he is also going to get me his duty free allowance in Dubai as he does not drink spirits. :D

This is not my food but what son (vegan) has for his lunch. I does taste good but I have no idea of SYNS etc so only have a taster. All made from Soya products but so real looking.

The "chicken leg" has a lemon grass stalk through it for the bone and the other piece is "stuffed pork".
The shredded pieces on the left look so much like chicken but are some kind of vegetable.

This is "steak" out of a tin - even the gravy looks realistic.

Think he would stay here if only for the food. He took the top photo - the reason it is not on a plate:rolleyes:

I thought when you said he was vegan (which you have said in the past) and then saw the photo I thought it was a lamb cutlet - could not believe it was all soy until I looked again - the food choices out there are amazing - I am though suprised they make it look like meat at all - as there are so many meals made that do not include meat :)

have a good morning watching catch up tv and getting here :)

I've been to a restaraunt in Malaysia that serves up all the soya 'meat' stuff and its amazing although a bit too real looking for me! I was convinced my veganism had been lost in translation and my friend had taken me to a chinese meat restaurant but thankfully the woman on the till spoke immaculate english and could explain how it was done, why etc. Lovely stuff :)

If you're ever in Norwich (a long, long way away) there is a place called Veggieland which does such food and is dirt cheap too. I go in there when I am homesick from asia and it takes me back :)

I really wish we had the same choice over here.

I love soya and tofu but we only seem to get the standard stuff.

The Chinese supermarkets in Manchester have some soya products like the Veggie crispy duck and Veggie satay sticks. We need to stock up actually. But they have nothing like that

This is what I bought today - Vegan Shrimp Meat Fluff :) It is nice, not the healthiest at 12 per cent fat but you only need a little of it - it is what they put through the veggie spring rolls.

Yes it all looks brilliant - when I go to down again I will take a photo of all the stuff they sell.

Told son about the restaurant and he has made a note of it. We are only here for another 3 weeks so you may see us in Norwich one day.:)

Are you Asian or just lived in Malaysia?

There used to be a place near where my son lives that had a selection of those kind of things but it did not last long, think there was only him and his friends bought it and they sold it off to them cheaply and never got any more.

so I for one want the baked beans recipe they look just like heinz beans with add ins :)

hope today has gone well

the sun finally burnt through and we took all the dogs to minchinhampton common - quite near to gatcombe park and not far from highgrove it was a lovely lovely walk [dfgvrrrrrrt12222222222222222222222222222222222222222222222222222222222222222222222222222222`]that was Kaydan walking over my keyboard - think he wanted to say hello

as I was saying it was a lovely walk a bit chilly in the wind (that was all the time as its a bit exposed) but I really enjoyed it when we got home the dogs went out in the garden (south facing so a sun trap) and had bones - meant I could get on with a few tasks including washing all the doggy blankets from the back of the car - altogether a productive and happy day here in north wiltshire :)

Hi Kaydan - a dog that only walks in posh places :) glad you had a happy and productive day.

Those baked beans were brilliant - don't know why I have not made them before, suppose it is so easy to buy a can when you find one brand you like.
Will type it out later and post it. Had a fight over the left overs at lunch time - I won cos I made them.:D

Wow, I am amazed by the fake meat! I think I'd probably find it a bit weird eating it, even knowing that it wasn't real though! Very clever presentation though - I wish vegan and veggie food was as inventive over here. You've so many great ideas to bring home :D

Would not know where to start with that food :D
When I was in the restaurant/take-away yesterday this girl kept saying to me - veggie, veggie and I was nodding my head, yes and she kept repeating it. I am sure she thought I thought it was meat then the guy behind the counter spoke to her and must have said we often go in there and she then had smiles all over her face and was patting my hand for ages :)

Aaleigha - the coffee maker was £1 and is basically a cafetiere but you don't push the plunger down - it drips into the glass and takes 10 minutes to make - the coffee is very thick and they then fill the glass with cold water and ice. You can have it hot if you want.

BAKED BEANS – 2SYNS FOR OIL
1 ONION – 1 PEPPER – GARLIC TO TASTE – CHOPPED
ANY KIND OF COOKED BEANS - 1 TSP OIL
2 CHOPPED TOMATOES – PEPPER AND SALT
1TSP CUMIN – 1TSP CORIANDER (GROUND)
TOMATO PUREE – STOCK (out of beans if using canned)

Heat the oil and fry the onions and pepper until they soften then add the garlic and cumin and coriander powder and cook for a couple of minutes. Add chopped tomatoes and fry again.
Add stock to cover by an inch and cook for a while until tomatoes are soft.
Add beans and liquid to cover and stir together then add tomato puree and cook for a couple of minutes. If they are not thick enough add some more tomato puree until they are as you want them.
Add salt and pepper to taste…………………………….

Sorry there are no quantities as I pressure cook a load of black-eyed and cannellini beans and freeze them then use as I want them so I just put a couple of cups of ready cooked ones in the pan and went from there.

Leave the garlic out if you don’t like it – use canned beans – use a little sugar if you think the tomatoes need it.

When I get home will weigh and measure things.

thanks for the recipe - I am a cook that never weighs a think I do it all by eye - I only have scales because I did slimming world (once upon a time) and needed them to weigh healthy extras

I love the look of that coffee maker very neat and I love iced coffee :) but was sat here with a hot one as its what I needed at 4am - its now just after five - read some diaries played criminal case on facebook and now back for the rest of the diaries :)

Just posted on yours when I realized you were awake at this time.

being awake is not good - I can here Dh stiring so when he gets up I will go back to bed for a bit with my book

Just been out for coffee (but I don't drink it:)) They give glasses of green tea whilst you wait for the coffee to filter and we had 9 glasses of green tea and 2 coffee and ice - Total 84p !!!

I really can't imagine going without sleep - I am cranky if I get up an hour earlier than usual but to lose the amount of sleep you do must be horrendous. I really feel for you.
