Half marathon training

Are you training outdoors?? I shall have to start mine on the treadmill and do the longer runs outside hopefully, hope that will be ok!

Im on week 2 of my 12 week Half Marathon training. Did 2 x 30 minute runs (2.5 miles) and a 3 mile run last week. Scheduled for 30 minute run tonight, which plan are you following? Im doing the BUPA beginner one, so hopefully ill finish it!!!

How did your 3 miles go?

Which half are you doing? My 3 miles went ok-but the roads/pavements were still very slippery where the sun hasn't reached them-so took it slower than normal. Took me 39 mins, which is about 5 mins slower than normal so am pleased-as it was lethal!
I'm doing the Hal Higdon half plan. It's 2 short runs on the week(Tuesday and Thursday) and a longer one on sat or sun-with cross training on Wednesday and the other weekend day :)

Disaster for me today - slipped and fell on the ice so there will be no running for me for a week or so as had a nasty bang to head and landed on my elbow. My first thought was I hoped I hadn't broken anything as a cast would not make running easy!!! Think that's a sign I have the running bug!

Oh god!! I hope you're ok! I am petrified of running in the ice tomorrow!!

Im doing the Bath Half Marathon, 3rd March! Eek!!! That's not too bad though, better to be safe than sorry!

Im doing 3 miles in around 35 minutes, but feel that's really slow, loads of people are running like 7-8 minute miles!!! My lowest so far has been 11:16 minutes for 1 mile!? Ah well, at the moment Im more worried about finishing the half marathon than what time I get!

The Bupa plan is 4 runs a week, so hopefully ill be ready in the given 12 weeks! Going to stick to it rigidly meaning I have to run on christmas day!!!!

Hope you're okay Rachael.

Hannah don't worry about other people's times. You're quicker than me but like you, I'm more interested in finishing and staying healthy!

Great!!! If you think you're slow at 35 mins for 3 miles, I did say in my post tht it took me 39!!! Lol!! As Nomad says tho, i don't worry about other people's times-I just want to finish it-I know that if I don't get any better than ill still complete in jut under 3 hours which would be fab! But I know I will improve over the next 11.5 weeks :) good luck all of us x

A run on christmas day!!! My running is done til next year now :)

Some days I run 9/10min miles, some I do 11. Don't worry too much about time, just build that stamina up. We can all do it! :)

Are you training for a half too? I couldn't possibly take a 3 week break out of my training-Christmas or otherwise-as theyre structured to ensure we got the right distances at the right time! Mine will see me doing 3.5miles on both Christmas Day and New Year's Day-that's no real hardship :)

Thanks all. I'm ok - got concussion and lots of bumps and bruises, but no broken bones thankfully, which is the main thing. Giving myself time to recover then hopefully back to running next week.

I totally agree that time doesn't really matter - my first aim was to manage to run a half marathon at all, and that was the most important thing for me. Getting a time I liked was just an extra bonus!

Haven't 100% decided if I'm doing a half or not. But there's no way my family would be happy if I put running before them on christmas day, my babies wouldn't understand!

That's only one day you have to miss tho-not 3 weeks lol

I haven't started any training program, just did the 10k so decided to have a rest until next year and I'm enjoying the rest :)

Day 3 of week 1 completed :) had the option to cross train or run 2 miles so decided to run. Beat my pace from yesterday-ok only by 16sec/mile but it's still an improvement-and I'm sure it's colder now than it was at 1pm yesterday!!

I'm looking at training plans for my marathon training. I've heard lots of positive comments about the Hal Higdon plans, whether for marathons or otherwise. However, the plan has you doing your weekly long run on a Saturday, rather than a Sunday, which isn't great for me. Has anyone followed his plans and mixed the days round a bit? If so, has it worked ok?

It clearly states that you can swap the long run for a Sunday if u want and just cross train on a Saturday-that's what I'm doing
