Half marathon training

Just been out for my first run since nov 19th!!! Only managed 2.9 miles but it was blowing a hooley and the sand was burning my face and legs! Still better than the people sat on the sofa eh!!!
Start my Hal Higdon half marathon training plan on monday(well first run is Tuesday) so really looking forward to cracking on with it x hope you all have a good weekend x
 
My slimming world consultant who knows I'm running through looking at my body magic forms has asked if I'd like to enter our local half next sept, being as I ve followed a 10k plan and its not until may perhaps should I look into half training now? What do you think?

It's my first outside run today! We are going down the canal and I only hope we can do at least 3 miles for our first one!!!!!
 
Hi all

Random question, but does anyone have thermal running socks, and if so, what make and are they any good? I have anti blister socks etc, but my feet get really cold!!

Lucy - is the half in September 2013? My view is that there is no harm in upping your distances now. I was doing 8/9 miles on my long weekend run before I had signed up for any races, and then the jump to half marathon distance was not as big.
 
Sorry cant help on the socks being an indoor runner but in answer to your other question I live near lake vrynwy and they have an annual half which I've heard is hard to enter as its so popular but my consultants done it and she's asking for anyone else but perhaps I need to look more into it.

I would just check out the route if i were you to make sure its not too hilly (i HATE hills!) and then I would go for it!!
 
I did my first 10k!!! Slightly stressful start tho as son was ill so late leaving, made the start line with 30seconds to spare! It was so unbelievably cold and windy tho, on a beach, so was really tough. Cos I was late, I couldn't get a chip so not sure on time, will ask my friend when she has her time. But I reckon it was around 1hr10ish.

Very proud of myself :)

Well done Jenny, I was thinking about you in between toilet trips, girls I'm not well at all, since 1am I've been poorly, probably only managed about 4 pints of water and that goes straight through!
God I hope I'm better tomorrow, got an important day at work :-(

Fab time lady, go you!

First bit of food for me since sat tea coming up shortly, hope I can get some in as I want to get back into training!
Seem to have dropped the ball a but lately so I've decided to start a new training programme to keep me focused!
