Jim's lazy Atkins diary

Thats wicked Jim - I must get myself organised and go one year x

Morning all, you'd love it Gem, the Saturday is better than the Sunday, as many pack up and leave Sunday lunchtime.

Must give it a go Jim - will look it up for next year x

Morning all, well what a weekend, spent most of Saturday in A&E with the FIL, he was peeing blood so the carer's had an ambulance take him to hospital. 9 hours later we finally managed to get some information out of them, we spoke to a surgeon, who was talking about an operation, but he decided after talking to us that Jack is just too frail. He has an aneurysm on an artery in/near the stomach, it 9.4 cm or something. They give him anything from a week to a year? ah well, he was always a pain in the arse and his quality of life these last few years is virtually nil.

Will they keep him in now Jim or maybe look at hospice care? I know what a pain he was the last time but maybe he's mellowed a bit now. Hopefully they will just make him as comfortable as possible.

Sometimes its just too difficult to operate and not very productive due to extra complications etc. Maybe its for the best that they make him as comfortable as possible and let him rest x

Morning all, well they sent him home, he's been bedridden for a couple of years now, and as they can't do any more for him they decided he might as well go home. I thought they might decide on a hospice, but it seems not.

Not time to call another multi-agency meeting is it Jim? It doesn't seem a safe option for him to be on his own under the circumstances - how on earth did he pass the OT tests for coping at home? Are they failing their duty of care or are they assuming you and Colleen to be "Carers" to tick the box? x

Morning all,

Well Gem, it seems that because he's already bedridden anyway, and he has 2 carer's in 4 times a day they believe he's probably better looked after at home than he would be in the hospital. he's not getting any medical/surgical solution so that's it, he'd only be a bed blocker if he stayed in. The hospital social worker seemed OK with that decision and so does his.

As long as he is getting the care he needs - I would have thought they would push for a residential place for him but I'm guessing he won't be having any of that. It is SO difficult with elderly parents, especially cantankerous ones! x

Morning all, LOL Gem, cantankerous doesn't even begin to describe Jack, and that was before he was bedridden.

I know Jim - I remember your descriptions - bless x

Hi Jim

Sorry to hear about your FiL, I hope it can be sorted that he gets the care he needs without you both being run ragged. Thinking of you xxx

Morning all, you back Susie?

Yes Jim, arrived back the night before last. Completely shattered though, we did LOTS of walking in hot weather and climbed many an ancient stair in Troy and Ephesus, so am really looking forward to this weekend!

Had a fab time and will post some pics this weekend x

Hi Jim,

I have thoroughly enjoyed reading your diary on here. Just got an account although been lurking for months waiting for minimins to validate it...finally I get to say Hello and congratulations on your fantastic journey. You are a real inspiration and I often laugh when I see your clean and green words :)

Morning all, we had a nice weekend, went down to Oxford to stay with the BIL, had some nice meals and a good laugh. No Olivia today, the kids are away camping somewhere near Worcester, they've been really lucky with the weather so far, I wonder what it's like today though, it's peeing down here. Hi Goldi, and welcome to the board love. Thankyou for your comments. I don't post much on here any more, just content maintaining.

Thanks Jim.

yes the weather is a bit rotten at the moment although we did have a glorious sunny day on Saturday up North, you don't think that was our SUmmer do you ;)

Morning all,

well what a nail biting finish to the cricket yesterday.

LOL Goldi, you never can tell over here can you.

Advanced camping, everyone must have their own DVD player. *sigh*
