June Money Challenge

I'm not doing well because I'm finding it hard to keep track - I've been ill and had to spend £20 on prescriptions plus this week I'm on a training course so havin to buy meals every day. I will eventually get this back but can't access my spreadsheet to keep track. I'm keeping all my receipts so I can catch up on it over the weekend.

Tell me about it hun. A day in A&E I had to pay parking fees, then for the medication my dr gave me I have had to pay that too. Seeing him again tonight so wonder if I will be on more medication lol xxx

Well June has been a horrid month for me!

Back to spending on Cards which has meant that I have just had to get into debt by balance transferring it onto a 0% one to help clear it off over the next few months.

Starting afresh today, cards are going out of the purse only to be used on big online shops to save money, and I need to start shopping once a week gain and not bits here there and everywhere!

Very dissapointed in myself :-(

I had to take £100 out of my savings account :( BUT I have gone a month ahead of schedule on work on my van, plus I still have most of it left. Am going to be very strict with food this week ,the cupboards and fridge are full so am going to make the most of it. I was trying to cook a new recipe every evening for a week but its just so damn expensive, and being vegan i can't just use a lot of the ingredients in other dishes as they aren't many that are suitable to start with. Sausage, mash and beans tonight :) I got 3 more days off work this week too which is great for exercise and doing stuff but not great for avoiding spending money as I'll be at home/van/allotment fixing stuff and noticing what needs doing/buying!

BUT I am super close to booking off my holiday from work to go to Asia - I'm now going to go end of Jan up until my birthday in feb (3 weeks hopefully) so will get my head down, save hard and book a flight in the next 6 weeks or so...I am sure once that is on paper I will be extra motivated to save :) I have worked out that once I have caught up with all my rent arrears this payday, from then on I should be able to save £500 a month!!! woohoo

I think you are doing really well Mandlegrot and cave girl. Keep up the good work.

I'm not doing great either Lucy. That week away on a course really threw me off track and I need to try and get back in control. I'm going to put my expenses in today and use that towards bills once it comes through. I still need to pay council tax and service charge on my flat (total of £212. Bf gets paid Friday so whatever he gives me from that will go towards those bills too.

I've had to use my cc for bday presents this month although I have tried to limit it to just that. My dads bday is this weekend so we are out for dinner, next weekend is bf's mums bday so we are out for that too - I can see both of these having to go on the cc as well!! Never mind - nearly payday and I'm determined to save at least something. Even if its a fiver!! I'm not beating myself up too much as in happy I laid off my other c with £500 overtime earlier this month.

Have you got a plan to get back on track Lucy?!

Well today is the first day in control! I aim to work out all my budgets ready for July and just hope to learn a lesson. I'm still behaing after May and all the money I spent on my car I think.

That's really good happy.

Petrol prices round my way have rocketed again. Makes me so mad!! At least I'm using less atm as bf is working in London but then you have stupidly high train fairs so I guess it's Lose/lose grrr.

I'm going to work out July in advance as well so I know how much I'm in my overdraft and then limit what I spend to try and pay some of it off.

Well done to those of you who are managing to save and chin up to those whose lives just get in the way, the main thing is that you are trying, and thats so much more important than those who shove their heads in the sands.

I was doing well, but then vets fee's, prescriptions (need to look into that prepayment thing as hubby takes 8 pills a day and me 4) birthdays i had forgotten (wish people would give me more notice than "tomorrow is so and so's birthday!")

Luckily i had already moved all the money i made on eBay into the Florida pot so have managed to save £135 in the last two weeks for that :)

Good luck guys, you all really inspire me to try harder, thank you :D xx

Maybe if I saved a bit better I would be able to book holidays like you do pixie ;)

My friend invited me and bf to go to lapland in Dec/Jan but we just can't commit to it right now. :( aww man!!

It's probably because i don't really get out much throughout the year (so boring lol!) so any spare money i get goes towards travel.

Oh wow, Lapland sounds wicked! Might get to see the Northern Lights and i believe there is a comet towards the end of the year too! You totally have to go! Get rummaging missus :p

I'm not remotely sentimental about "stuff" so it's really easy for me to get rid of things i don't use, remember gumtree is free and you don't have to post stuff too which sometimes is lovely not having to go to the post office every bloody day lol

I can't get over the fact that its actually cheaper to go abroad on holiday than it is to stay here, that just seems so backwards to me, but i'm not complaining hehe :) x

I did a carboot on Sunday (gave all the proceeds to charity though) and have sold about £20 worth of stuff on ebay - worth looking into doing - carboots are great fun, especially with friends, and if you a hoarder then lots of stuff to shift. I'm gonna do snother one soon as i didn't have much time to sort through everything...my shed is full of stuff (floor tiles, vinyl flooring, wood, a new sink`?!?!?! etc) and hopefully it's worth something to someone :)

Right! Paid off that blasted card, taken it out of my wallet, again!

Just had a buy it now offer on my watch too! Things are looking up! :)
