June Money Challenge

I might start a change tin again I had one a few years back as was completely skint, cracked it open and there was just under £100 in small change 1,2 5 and 10ps!!

I have two tins...one for coppers, 5p and 10ps and one for £2 coins. The £2 one is one that you can't open without a tin opener so once its in - its staying in!!

Once the change tin is full, I'm going to get it changed up at the bank and put it into the £2 tin or if its easier then into a separate savings account.

I am doing that with £10 notes when I can afford it then when I've lost all my weight I a, going shopping with it

Am off to Glastonbury next week - with the potential to cause real damage to both money and diet!!! HELP!!! Going to be hard...got some tricks up my sleeve but there's no easy way around big festivals, you can't always go back your tent/van for food as its miles away! Am only going to take £100 with me and cash card is getting locked away in the van !!

Oh goodness! Good Luck! No advice really as know festivals are hard. How long are you there for? I suppose just budget what you can afford and stick to that and have a good time. There should be a good variety of food including jackets and noodles etc but it is likely to be expensive. Great to go though and enjoy x

Am on site for a week as am crew this year...I know this sounds silly but I avoid eating out due to cost as I'm vegan and I really, really begrudge paying £6 for a bloody potato and beans :( glasto is great as there are loads of vegan food stalls but its not particularly healthy stuff (better than thr omni stuff though) so am just gonna have to bite the bullet and do it. At least I can make my breakfast every morning in my van and have a good start to the day. I'm not sure how far into the festival I can park my van so hopefully crew campervans are further in than the punter vans as they are the furthest away from anything!! Lots of walking and dancing though so maybe it will burn off the cider and food!! We shall see on the scales when I return ;)

' leaving tomorrow, eeek! Working until 8am tomorrow morning too then off home to pack :)

Ohh have a nice time Mandlegrot!

Loads of my friends are going. Take cereal bars with you and fruit such as apples (which will last) to at least give you a good breakfast. Otherwise just be as sensible as possible (no idea of food options there) and drink water during the day to rehydrate and limit damage that the booze will do!!

I went out for dinner last night and thankfully opened my statement for the old cc I have paid off. I haven't closed it down yet for some reason and found that I had OVERPAID by £55 so that paid for me and bf in including drinks!! Fab!

Mind you there is serious potential to make money too - clearing thr site on Monday when people leave!! You wouldn't believe the things people leave behind!! I pack all thr tents down and carboot them...camping stoves, alcohol, waterproof clothing, etc etc that rich kids can't be arsed to carry home.

You'd be surprised - in2011 we filled a minibus with stuff people had left, whole boxes of wine/cider, lots of cans, bottles of spirits ...it's shocking really but spoilt brats will be spoilt brats, I'm happy to minesweep after them and revel in their laziness!!

Must be - I'd never leave a tent/alcohol behind. Obviously everyone leaves rubbish etc but I'm talking about people leaving perfectly good stuff behind because 'its dirty' or 'I can't be bothered to carry it, ill just buy another one' its really sad when you look around but hey, I'm gonna take advantage of other people's laziness and make some money or donate it to a charity that will benefit from camping equipment. I was in the que a few years back going in and it was quite muddy, this girl in front dropped a crate of beer and it had thr smallest bits of mud on it, but she said 'oh its muddy forget em' !! I asked her if she wanted them, and if not, could I and she said to take them. Because there was a bit of mud on it. I mean seriously if you hate the mud that much, don't come ;) cos it will get muddy. I bet she had a crap weekend, all it did was rain!!

Rant over. Haha!!! Got my monthly payslip today and I'm all set for a good month of saving - £200 going straight in then going to play it by ear and how much I can save week by week. Have put aside £250 all in for glasto - diesel, booze, supermarket, spending money etc. might not even need that much :)

fingers crossed we can all have a great month!!

Nah wasn't saying rich kids in general are spoilt - but I think thr ones that go to a festival and leave £100's of stuff because its a bit dirty definatley are. If their parents had taught them about where money comes and how hard it is to make, then maybe they would appreciate the value of things and clean up after themselves.

I have a crew pass this year but the last two times I've paid - and worked hard to get there doing overtime at work and cutting corners - its embarrasing to see these spoilt idiots come and trash the land and leave stuff lying about like its someone's job to clean it up and buy them anew one for next time. Mind you there are good and bad from all class backgrounds but I think these type of kids are the worst, I bet their parents would be appalled if they saw how they behave :(

like you say though, I'm happy to oblige in the cleanup ;)

on the festivals thing - I can see where you are coming from Mandlegrot if people are just ditching stuff because 'mummy and daddy' will buy them new again next year....but I have to confess I have left my tent at a festival before. Not out of being spoilt (god I wish!!!) but from exhaustion and not being able to carry the bleeding thing any further.

We were in Benicassim festival (Spain) a few years ago and the organisers didn't set up enough coaches to get us all back to the airport etc so we had to walk miles in 30 degree heat with all our camping stuff, no food or water, no taxi's to be seen etc to try and get to the airport. I confess I had a bit of a strop and just dumped it along the way as none of my friends would take a turn carrying it and I was the only one who had a suitcase without wheels!!!

Happy for anyone to take it and make use of it (although I hear that they recycle the tents they find at this festival so who knows! The caricatures we drew on the sides should have made someone smile at any rate lol)

I think sometimes people are just so exhausted after a week of booze, junk food and no sleep they dont think about the people having to clean up their discarded camping stuff. If you can make use/money out of it then why not!!

The girl who dropped her crate of beer and gave it to you as it was dirty just sounds silly in my opinion - what a waste!

Fair dos - can understand your situation!! It gets very hot in Spain indeed. The people I'm taking about dont even pack thr tent down though - just take the valuables and leave. Makes it hard to clean the site as sometimes there are sleeping bags. Clothes etc in there but they have long gone lol!!! Lazy gits!!!

@cavegitl oh no!! Can you make a small goal, even £5 a week at least you feel you're getting somewhere? I had a month like that in may, everything came at once :( was tough but I saved a lot this month as I had spent a month completely skint and made some changes to the way I spend which can cut corners.

So I've just been online & I know the last bill to come out before payday, Friday, & I've gone overdrawn by £35.50 which isn't too bad I don't think. I'm still on with this, I've got to get so I'm not near my o/d and start to spend less on incidentals & put a bit aside for either Christmas, OH's 50th in October or December holidays, or all of them things truth be told!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well done happy! That's good progress :) I'm going to check mine today but ill be nearer to about £600 overdrawn so still a long way to go for me.
