All very nerve-wracking I must say - waiting to hear if I have got a place. Jane, I wouldn't have been able to afford this either but I have applied for a part-time studentship which will pay the fees and give me a small bursary so I can reduce my hours at work a little.
M, I'm anticipating the confusion of being called Doctor while working in the NHS lol. I'm expecting to take you up on the offer of support, advice, tea, sympathy etc etc etc
Jess - Dr Fury? Hmmm, I might need to change my name! Keith calls me Babule (pronounced Bab-yool) so has started calling me Dr Babule which is better than my actual name, which does sound rather stupid with Doctor in front of it.
My thesis proposal (taken direct from my application) is:
"Disability and disadvantage amongst people with non-visible conditions. Exploring the perception within the disability movement that people with invisible conditions do not experience direct disadvantage or stigma and applying this to issues of disclosure of health conditions in the workplace and the availability, or otherwise, of reasonable adjustments for disabled people with invisible conditions. Considering the concept of “disability” for this group of people and the advantages and disadvantages to the individual and to the employer of encouraging disability disclosure."
Hopefully not too dull! Better not be since I'll be working on it for about another five years!
