Licking the Lid of Life....my esoteric diary

I was sat in the Fluoroscopy/Nuclear medicine waiting room today and for some reasoning was thinking about you and if you had weighed.

Great result with the 5 lb off. :woohoo:

I got one of Hairy Bikers books.I would tell you which one but I'm in bed and can't be bothered to move.:D

Haha. I know THAT feeling! fluoroscopy? Is that where they use liquids to see your insides? Did you have to have barium? How was it, not horrid I hope??

I made the eggs benedict as a result of the pressure to make something jazzy from a box of nice, but distinctly ordinary, ingredients. Well, that and I've been watching Master chef this week. ;)

I have literally NEVER poached an egg before today. I tried once and it all went wrong so I have always fried them. Until now!

Oh goodness half way! How exciting :) :) you must really be feeling the benefits now! I have to say I'm loving the watch. Still need a new strap as it's very jazzy in white. I had a good day :) I hope you did too! X

Oh another good thing that happened today, I reserved a new slow cooker for collection tomorrow :) my old one is A- small, B- old and c- a bit rusty on the inside so I'm a bit wary of leaving it overnight in case it explodes or something. My new one is 6.5 litres and shiny shiny red :)

Im thinking beef this weekend. Nom nom nom

Coincidentally the hairy dieters book has a beef casserole recipe. Bonus.

Yes I certainly am, although doing my best at the minute to forward plan as I'm sort of waiting for it to get really hard (if you know what I mean?!) as I haven't lost this much before I expect to plateau or for it to stop any time!
I need to have a look into this, I have an iPhone so could possibly be shouted at for getting another apple device but I have been looking at getting a new watch for a year.
I am also going to make your pickled eggs next weekend (as I eat 2 eggs a day haha!)

I did have a good day thanks- extremely thankful that it's Friday! Have a lovely day today!

Yes it was a barium. The procedure wasn't too bad it was after and most of the night and this morning that is the worse. The 2 cups of drink was easy as it didn't taste of anything. But I will look at smash differently now. I never knew they used that or ready brek for the paste. (I'm guessing you know where they put that.) I have awful stomach cramps and to make it worse I had to go to work at 5 am so going to watch this weeks Celebrity Masterchef now while trying to eat breakfast.

I've only done a poached egg in a poacher or microwave. I'm guessing they taste better done in water. More moist perhaps.:)

Here is my Hairy Bikers book. Not used it yet. Not used many of my books. Perhaps now is the time to try out some new recipes.

Thank you @Trefoil . I did ask if it would have any effect on my stomach and she said no. You can just carry on with your day like normal. Reason I asked her is since Summer 2014 I've had trouble with my stomach and just got it right where I can go out and not worry. Now it will take a few weeks to get it right again then I have a consultant appointment in three weeks. Hoping they got the images etc what they wanted as I don't think I can go through the discomfort again. Althou I will be on Summer break from school so won't have to go to work. I've taken Buscopan and I will have to take more later. Oh well . lazy day it will be until 3 pm when I go back to work.

Oh Mary that's nasty and I hope you feel better soon. Also, as you say, I hope they have what they need so you can get some answers. Definitely take it easy until this afternoon. I don't have that one of the books. I have the first one they did and now the new one. Let me know if it's any good. I'm always ready to add to my collection :)

@Trefoil hey Ruth let me know how the eggs turn out! I had two this morning with some ham, a field mushroom and some grilled tomatoes and the last of my spinach. It was like a mini fry up but grilled and very nice :) also I'll be interested to hear if you succumb to the watch. I'm glad I did. The novelty will wear off eventually but it's very intuitive. And is definitely helping me at the moment!

Happy Friday all!! X

Congrats on the loss Sam!!! Love s big drop :)
Halfway there sounds wonderful too @Trefoil. Totally within ur reach now. Keep on going with the successes ladies!

Was the lightest I've been in ages this morning. Suspect I'm firmly in the 170s (12stone zone). Will be on a slow down for sure over next 5 weeks as on holidays from Wednesday. Can't wait but I will totally relax while away. No counting syns for a while..

Keep up the good work ladies!!

Still in pain. Took me months to get my stomach right and one simple procedure has knocked me back.Feels like I have been kicked in the stomach. Anyway enough of me.

Do you go charity shop shopping? I love it having a noisy around them. Surprising what you can pick up.Picked 2 year old Grand D up loads of books and I got some gardening books all for a fiver.

There were some Slimming World and Weight Watcher ones but as I don't do either so I didn't buy them. Someone said I should of and sold them on ebay. When I go in this week I'll see if they are still there.

What is everyone up to today? I'm off out to pick up 20 free slabs for my garden. I love a freebie. Skype with Grand D then if weather is kind I will lay my slabs out. :)

Sorry to hear you're not well @craftermary :-( it sounds horrid- fingers crossed it settles down for you soon.
I love a good charity shop rummage. I had a conference a few weeks ago and couldn't afford a new dress. Popped in to the charity shop, lo and behold, M&S formal shift dress for under a fiver.
Haven't been in for a while- like to leave it a few weeks between visits so there's some different stock in. I think the SW and WW books could sell well on eBay, especially if they are more recent.
I'm working today, feeling a bit stiff after running yesterday but I'm sure I'll loosen up. Enjoy your skyping & I hope the weather is nice for all of us! X

Ooh what a lovely feeling, last time I did his I realised I was the lightest I'd been since I was about 15. That was immense haha. So is it the Vegas run coming up?

Sorry to hear you are suffering Mary :( lots of positive thoughts coming your way! Hopefully it passes soon and has been worth it! I too love a good charity shop find. My local animal sanctuary has a really good one and is in and close to some very affluent areas so it's full of name brands. I have, in the past had nearly brand new next jeans for £3 and tops for £2! Got to love that!

Today a farm near us is having an open day with tractor rides and ferret racing and steam engines. We are going to that. I mean who doesn't love a speedy ferret. Then madam is wanting a sleepover at the grandparents so we may lose her and have a chilled evening in. The exam stuff starts again tomorrow so I'm making the most of it. Not to mention I'm technically back to work Monday :( but it's only for 4 days and then I break up due to accrued time off. Woohoo.

Sorry to hear you're not well @craftermary :-( it sounds horrid- fingers crossed it settles down for you soon.

I reckon the books are good but only if recent, once they change the plans people move on. I know this because I once tried to sell some old WW ones that I had in the cupboard and couldn't give them away! I wouldn't want you to be left with them gathering dust! The exception to that is if the slimming world ones have red and green plan stuff in as there is an underground market for that! Haha

In an effort to cut carbs a bit I made cauli-mash to have with my chicken breast and curry heinz beans (which are amaze balls btw) and it was great!! I cooked a small head of cauli until soft and mashed it with some light Philly with garlic and herbs and some black pepper. Not quite mash potato but to be honest I didn't miss the starchy mouthfeel and when the bean juice got involved...well it was really yummy.

It doesn't warrant a vlog as its almost too simple but I'm a total convert and will be stocking up on the old cauliflower. Apparently you can do it with frozen and I will give it a try in the name of research but much like the veg that came with dirt on tasted better I imagine that the fresh cauli will will hands (or heads) down! :) :)

I'm tempted to try the cauli rice next. Has anyone else given it a go?

Hi!

I'm a very recent convert to Philly (tonight's tea to be exact!) but I think it would take more than the yumminess of Philly to disguise the wet jumper smell of cauliflower! I could be tempted with the rice though if it had a strong sauce on it so will be interested to know what you think of it.

Farm open day sounds fab, my weasels love things like that, anything to climb or get muddy and they are happy! Tractor rides and speedy ferrets, what more can you want from a day out!

Enjoy your half child free evening and good luck for Monday, is this the end of maternity leave? I hated the thought of leaving them to go back to work but once I was there it was nice to actually speak to grown ups and remember I was a person as well as mama! xx

Liking the sound of your cauli mash- can you get it relatively smooth? I always imagined it to be very lumpy and not blended properly.
I would like to try cauli rice too- I quite like veg with a curry- but Lidl didn't have any cauliflower last time I tried to make it.
Hope you've had a good day out! Hopefully all that fresh air will have worn your littlies out :)

The mash can be made smooth if you use a food processor apparently. I prefer a small amount of texture so used a potato masher but a potato ricer would get a smooth texture too I imagine. I really didn't taste like cauliflower. I don't know why. I'm not a big cauli fan so for me to say I enjoyed it is a fairly big endorsement but the curry bean sauce certainly helped!

@Little B you have weasels?? Like actual weasels? How do you make a weasel a pet? I want one.

I cheat and buy Tesco cauliflower couscous. Can't be doing with all the faffing about of cutting, blitzing then frying. Too much washing up for me.:)

I eat an awful lot of cauliflower! It gets used as an alternative to bread in our house!
I have recipes for cauliflower fajitas, pizza and all sorts! Adore the stuff! How was the mash? Carrot and cauliflower is my fave!
