MinnieMel is nolonger considers herself a CDer. One final post.

Nope, my Mum's dad was never around. My Nan was Polish and got taken to a displacement camp in Southern Rhodesia and there she met an Italian soldier, they had a relationship of some kind, and she got pregnant with my mum. When my mum was 2 my Nan was then given the option of where she wanted to go, I think out of the UK, Canada, Australia and another place, and she chose the UK and came here, without the soldier obviously. My Mum never knew him, and so neither did I. My Nan didn't really talk about it either. So there's just the three of them.

Hi CG -- What an interesting life your nan had. That explains your beautiful dark hair -- your long lost Italian grandfather.

It makes things complicated for my Mum now though, no passport! We're in the process of sorting it all out now. She could get a Polish passport, but all the forms for the status certificate she needs and then the passport forms need to be written in perfect Polish, which neither of us can do, I can only stretch to a few nursery rhymes and basic words! So we're going to apply for a status of nationality for the UK as she's been here almost 60 years, has worked for 40 odd years and is married to a UK citizen. Never knew it was all such a palava!

I could fill the form for you - my mum is polish and I did go to polish weekend school! LOL
What a small world x

It really is!! We're trying to trace some records too, so I might give you a shout for some help soon if that's ok?

so far today i haven't done much, ent to two lectures, went to my weigh in then shopping

got a chest infection now, so constantly coughing

Sorry to hear you are ill, Sam. I hope you get better soon.

CG - My DH's father was born in Nova Scotia but moved to New York when he was 2 years old. When he went to retire from the U.S. Post Office they told him that he could not draw his pension because you have to be a U.S. citizen to work for the post office! He had used his U.S. Army discharge papers when he applied for the job in 1950! (He'd been drafted into the U.S. Army, but the U.S. was not at war yet -- so he was discharged and allowed to sign up with the Royal Canadian Air Force.) Anyway, he became a U.S. citizen at 65 years of age -- so, he could draw his penison! lol

Doug's Scottish mum was finally able to afford to go home to Scotland after moving to the U.S. in 1946 (as a war bride), when my husband was in high school (1977 he graduated). But, her passport had long ago expired -- so she went to the British Consulate in NYC to get another one, and they told her that itmade more sense for her to become a U.S. citizen and get an American one. So, my husband drove his mother to Albany to take her citizenship test!

I tell you, citizenship is one pain in the butt! It's so complicated!! My mum doesn't have many records of, well, anything! There's the records of her coming over here, and she's got her reference number for the displacement camp. But they had a fire so all their records have been destroyed, meaning no birth certificate! I know she got really upset when about 6 years ago she went to get a passport because we were all going to go to France and she was told that she's technically not a citizen of anywhere. Even though she's been here almost 60 years. Now gets a pension here. Has worked since she was 16, paid tax and NI contributions. It's crazy really.

thats disgusting!!!!!!! same as the gurkas, the way they are treated angers me

well today i have done all the laundry, just need to iron it, cleaned the bathroom and tidyed the kitchen and living room

i even made something new for dinner to pass the time

Hi Sam and CG -- I am going to try to get some of my life back and so I am going to try to keep up at MM and my weight loss/exercise plan plus all those "get my life sorted" things. However, I cannot write off my friend entirely -- but I am going to make some adjustments. I spent the better part of 13 out of 16 days at the hospital in a 17 day period. Can't keep that up -- and I need to have energy on the days I am not "doing hospital duty".

Today, so far I have been a bit lax but... I walked the dog with the neighbour, and did the dishes, caught up with email, started on the laundry and will get going very soon on other chores. I will go to the hospital tonight since my daughter's evening activity was cancelled, but it will not be until after my husband has been home, had dinner and it is "free time" before my daughter goes to bed. Then, I may or may not go tomorrow -- I am trying to make it every other day -- but or four days a week max.

hey glad to hear you are getting your life back, how is the patient doing?

today i had a lie in, walked the dog, sorted out the meat for this evnings meal and chopped all the veg. went to uni, back again and walked the dog.

turns out i finished early so there was no need to prepare dinner early. but knowing my luck

now waiting for a friend to arrive before i can start cooking

Hi Sam -- My friend is much improved. Still in the NCCU, but they have done the graft to close the abdominal wound and he is being weened off of the respirator. I am looking forward to him being promoted to a regular ward in a next few weeks (my hope). I have been spending a lot of time there still -- but I am planning to make some changes. I need to focus on my own family and life. My DD's 11th birthday is tomorrow and we have a big day out planned. We also have a party booked for the end of the month. I am still walking the dog most days with my neighbour (short walks though) and not making it to the gym or much else. That will change.

Take Care, MinnieMel

at least your still doing some exercise.

today my other half left early for work at 5am, so i got up and had a bath as i've crippling period pains, took painkillers and went back to bed till half eleven
got up fed the dog, went to uni, came home started on my assignment

had dinner with a friend and took the dog out. now sitting at home really tired nad grumpy thing i am gonna put the bodyguard on

Well, I have gotten back on the CD plan -- been SSing since Tuesday and so far, so good. I held my own all these months -- lose a few, gain it back... but I was weighing on Tuesday what I weighed at the start of 2010. I had started back exercising, but was depending too much on a neighbour who was my "partner". She'd cancel on me, go away on a trip, etc. and I wouldn't work out. I plan to set up my own (what works for me programme) in a week or so. I am going to ease into it -- as I am currently ssing and do not want to overdo.

The fellow in the hospital, finally, went home last Sunday. I cut way back on the time I spent at the hospital in mid-March after he went off the respirator and could ask for help on his own. Also, his daughter stopped living at the hospital and no longer needed as much support. Anyway, I have not seen him since he got home last week -- but plan to visit on Sunday. He has made a miraculous recovery, but will need further surgeries later. He is planning to return to work half days at the end of June!

My son is back from the States where he was at Uni -- and my daughter is thrilled to have her brother back. It looks to be a good summer -- fingers crossed!

MinnieMel

P.S. What I am doing instead of eating: a little reserach for Girl scout activities, making dinner, dishes, laundry, some errands, grocery shopping, email, making a "birthday pie" and delivering it, and now a little more housework and tele. DD, DS and DH all went to the movies.

Update:

I have started back seriously (again) trying to shift the weight that I put back on after losing nearly five stone in 2007/8 on Lighter Life. I held my own for most of this year... up and down but hovering under 11 stone (although my goal weight is 9.5 stone). Then, all of sudden I jumped up and now weigh more than I have since 2008. So, I went to my first exercise class in months last night and have started back on CD this morning. I updated my tickers, joined the September challenge and am not going to let myself "give up" or decided "it's not that big a deal" until I get back under 10 stone. And, I will endevour to never again allow myself to creep up past that mark.

That said... instead of eating I am

updating my minimins
ordering more Food for Life CD from the States (soy based)
cleaning cupboards and shelves in the kitchen
sorting and shredding paperwork
doing a little laundry
vacuuming the livingroom...

I am hurting from second exercise class -- I will be going most Monday and Wednesday evenings. The class is supposedly a yoga/pilates class -- but last night's class was killer ab work. And, I have very weak abs! However, I still got up and after I got DD sorted and off for her first day back at school, I went up and walked three miles on the track. I plan to do that tomorrow, as well. But then... I was very slack and had a chatty coffee morning with a friend and am not anywhere near where I'd like to be regarding house chores. However, it is still afternoon and I can get some more laundry done, (I am colouring my hair as I type this) and errands this afternoon. And, I hope to make up for some lost time this evening, esp. if DH has to work late as he has been lately. Soooo...

What I am doing instead of eating...

DD sorted for school, packed lunch made, dishes unloaded and reloaded and laundry washed.
Walked three miles.
Folded dry clothes, carry laundry upstairs, put some away... more in dryer -- need to finish this up.
Colouring hair -- needs it.
