My Low Carb Journey

Well, tomorrow is wi day and have not jumped on and off the scales for a few days now so have no idea how I have done but as ever am hopeful... a 1lb loss would do :) Was at the hospital last week and had a bit of a disappointment coz although the consultant was pleased with my weight loss so far I was disappointed coz their scales weighed me heavier than my own and as theirs are calibrated I have to assume that mine are wrong and I'm heavier than I thought I was..................tho it was later in the day and I was dressed..................do you think that accounts for 4lbs :8855:.................being delusional again me thinks...............

Eating plan going Ok, tho still want to eat all the wrong foods, but still haven't succumbed, which tbh is unusual for me as usually give in after this length of time on an eating plan..............no idea why this one is different...............unless its just cos I am focused this time as want to get to at least a 16 by July, which is not that far away now

Actually no Dawn I don't think you're being delusional. When I first started on my diet I used my sister's WW's scales at her house so obviously I was dressed. One day I decided to weigh myself with and without clothes, the clothes weighed 3lbs!!!! I was quite shocked lol.

It doesn't really matter what the consultant's scales say as long as they are showing the same amount of weight off. Yours are the most important as those are the ones you use every week.

thank you very much for that :) I am not going to weigh myself until beg of June now and hope that will give me a boost to see a bigger weight loss.........that's the plan anyway :):) and you are right a loss registers on whatever scales you use :)

Everyone has different trigger foods - apart from sf stuff which seems to be many people then can be pretty much anything. Mine is peanuts - but all other nuts fine!

please excuse my ignorance, but what are sf stuff? I know one of my triggers is fruit - can't seem to handle even natural sugars :(

Sf is sugar free. All use different sweeteners - all seem to have different effect on different people - insulin and therefore hunger effect, gut impact, wind issues, weight loss stalls

Overall - if you stall then my first suggestion is to cut ALL sugar and sweeteners - so that includes fruit.

To understand sweeteners - have a google. They all have different chemical compositions, safety rcords, sweetness and typical body reactions (scary!)

Sounds simple when you told me and felt I should have known that  I avoid all sugars and sweetners now as I have found out that is a trigger for me :( Knowing that is keeping me on the straight and narrow. I've been on this eating plan since Feb 20th and can honestly say that I haven't cheated once, tho have had weeks where I have gained or stalled and working out what it is that is the problem has been difficult...............but I do know that fruit is a def trigger and double cream and pureed fruit in my ice-cream maker tho delicious is now out :( Hopefully this want I have to have something really lovely and sugary will go........one day :giggle:

Hi peeps..........I am still here and still being good *polishes halo*.

I have risen to a challenge not to weigh until 2 June, and actually think this is probably a good thing as I am a serial scale hopper :( Also at least only weighing once a month means that at least when I jump on the scales I may be pleasantly surprised :)

Hope you are all OK :)

Right, I am now back from my week away and know that I have put on at least half a stone, don't know for sure as I haven't jumped on the scales as I made a promise not to until 2nd June, tho must admit its been difficult to resist. I can feel the extra weight around my middle and feel very bloated and look about 11 months pregnant  I ate, chocolate, biscuits a whole tub of hagen daaz ice-cream in one sitting I hasten to add, chips and bread.............whoops!!!

I was on track for being a size 16 for my birthday in July, but think I have sabotaged that now  I went totally and utterly off the rails :( Came home Friday and got back on the wagon on Saturday and must admit to finding it difficult at the moment. did plan on going onto phase 1 for 3 weeks, but haven't even managed to stick at it for even 2 days - have eaten a lot of phase 2 foods. All I can do is accept I have put on weight, draw a line under it and move forward - weight was coming off on phase 2 even tho very slowly, but its in the right direction. So as they say...........onwards and downwards..........eventually :)

I have given myself a target of 60 miles to complete in June...........so ticker at the ready and full steam ahead :)

It can take a while to wean yourself off the carbs again Dawn as I am finding out following a carb up for some blood tests. You have to give the body time to switch back to burning fats/proteins for fuel instead of sugars. You do feel kind of like you have a permanent hangover in the process though.

Good luck with the 60 miles.

I do indeed Kally, this was supposed to be a bit more serious and talking about the weight loss or lack of and the eating plan and thought that if I had a diary in the low carb section I might get some tips along the way, but i must be really boring cos I don't have to worry about keeping this place too clean as I have few visitors lol

Mybe its a bit difficult as I'm not doing the Atkins, just trying to eat natural foods and nothing processed and no or not many carbs...........weight loss is extremely slow tho :( and seem to have been rubbing along with the same 5lbs for about a month now...........I'm away again on Sat so my head is saying that its pointless worrying too much until I come back............Mick wants me to not be on an eating plan whilst we are away, but feel I need some brakes or I will eat anything and everything..............I know that's what holidays are for, to relax and enjoy but I'm worried that if I let it go totally I will ruin a lot of hard work so far and................this is supposed to be for life, so should be able to make it work even on holiday.................shouldn't I??????

Yes you should. Weirdly I always find holidays easier to deal with than everyday life, think it's a stress thing.

You could always go for the lower carb options and tell him you're experimenting with things you've never had before.

Hiya dawn! I'm still reading your posts and low carbing, except I've gone paleo rather than atkins (meat, fish, nuts, seeds, veg, fruit - I also have a little cream, full fat yog, 85% dark choc & red wine). No processed food, no grains, legumes etc.

Its naturally low carb. Sounds like you're doing similar? Keep going with it! I had a bad lapse about three weeks ago but since then have been in the zone.

I'm now trying out intermittent fasting (basically I extend my overnight fast until later the next day - usually around one) and I'm loving it! Weight loss much quicker too as it can be somewhat slow on low carb!

Anyway, thought id just pop back and say hi!

Your eating plan does sound similar...........I eat nothing processed, but I can eat carbs ie porridge for breakfast as long as I leave 3-4 hours before I have a "fat meal" I eat the porridge, no sugar or sweetners as they are not allowed, as I find breakfast difficult and I just cant eat egg and bacon every day.

Can you give me an idea of a typical day's menu so I can see how your plan differs and I may have a look to see if it may work a bit better for me..........wondering if I could have a few nuts for breakfast instead of porridge. I also can have 85% chocolate and red wine, but not too often.

May go and see what I can find out about Paleo diet and see if I can do a combination of the two and wonder if that will work.

You are welcome to read my food diaries, they're on myfitnesspal, you'll need to create a profile if you dont have one and then friend me (purplephoenyx).

Are you still doing the harcombe diet? I think she's v good but I struggle with the low fat element.

Sorry to be thick, but what low fat element on the Harcombe diet?

Also, I follow mark sissons guidelines which can be found on www.marksdailyapple.com.

Thanks for that - I will take a look :) x
