My Low Carb Journey

I think the main difference with primal is no grains because primal man/woman didn't have the means to process them ready for eating. Dairy is also limited because we're only designed to process milk whilst we're babies.

I've noticed this intermittent fasting is becoming very popular. Have to admit I generally have a semi-fast day to get me back on track if I have strayed...........which is often at the moment lol

Doesn't she recommend low fat yoghurt? I could well be wrong though. I heard a podcast interview with her which was excellent, and why I read the book.

I wasn't sure about the food combining bit either (no fats and carbs together) but then I read other positives of this. I liked this article

Not ready to reintroduce grains yet myself tho...

I love IF! I'm still playing with it though, but I feel great, so much energy! I'm being quite relaxed about it and just not eating in am until I'm hungry.

I've just been reading about the Paleo diet and it has lots of similarities with the Harcombe diet, which I am enjoying, just wish I could find something I could eat for breakfast.

She recommends low-fat yoghurt only if having it with a carb meal, if having a fat meal can have full fat greek yoghurt. I am enjoying it, but just wish I had better losses. I'm lucky if I lose 1lb a week.

Greek yogurt and toasted nuts/seeds for brekkie.

You can also make a porridge from ground almonds instead of using oats, consistency is a lot thinner but it makes an OK substitute.

I love my eggs in the morning but sometimes have fish. If I'm really pushed I have been known to open a small can of tuna and go protein only.

I'm sure the Atkins diary forum would welcome you! There are people doing all types of low carb over there, and there are many instances where different diets can share ideas. This forum just seems to get less traffic, so fewer visitors.

Good luck getting your weight loss going again.

THD advises against nuts until phase 3, so with that in mind porridge from ground almonds is out as is yoghurt with nuts and seeds.......not sure I could stomach a tin of tuna for breakfast tbh................I'm a cereal girl at heart.

If you like it, stick with it but consider an element of intermittent fasting. I loved paleo but weightloss slow, but IF boosted it.

Fits in with any diet...

I have had a look at this and think that maybe its worth a thought of actually giving up breakfast as I am sure if I ate no carbs at all I would do better and I just can't face eggs or fish for breakfast..............so maybe worth a think.

Thank you for you kind words...........need to do something to get my losses going again, tho the problem is that I'm not quite sure what I'm doing wrong............tho do think the bag of M&Ms would come under the heading of not entirely on plan..............:8855:

I'm going away on Sat for a week and I am fairly sure that I won't be on plan whilst away..........OH doesn't want me to be as he says its a holiday and I should relax a bit and enjoy it, but part of me is terrified that I will put on weight and Im not sure how strong I am going to be!!!

OMG what sort of mouse am I?????????

Not ready to reintroduce grains yet myself tho...

On first reading this there are an awful lot of similarities to THD ..........will have a more in depth read tho xx

It's all good! Did you see the prog on tonight - bbc 2 - the men who made us fat or sthg similar - v anti sugar and big industry domination - what Zoe harcombes been saying for a bit.

No I didn't we had guess what on.......................thats right.............football!!!!!! Hence I've spent the evening on here catchin up :)

I read an article that Zoe had written for the Daily Mail and as long ago as 1956 they did a trial of carbs v low carb and the low carb, tho higher calories, lost the most weight.............so if they knew that then why are they still pushing the high carb low fat diets????

My body def feels better without all the processed stuff in it..........just wish I could rid myself of a sugar craving..........I gave into that tonight so its going to be much harder tomorrow..............what an idiot I am!

There's no food industry money in low carb natural food. All the processed stuff is high carb and grain based. Gvt relies on money from coca cola, nestle etc. our uk government nutritional advisor is funded by Kellogg's. The British dietetics association responsible for the training of all our dieticians, refuses to say who their sponsors are. They mostly consist of processed food and drink manufacturers and associations. What does that tell us?!!

I just don't get where common sense has gone. I mean, if I told you to feed a lion processed tinned catfood, or a plate of rice or something, you'd think I was nuts! Why? Because they're not evolved to eat that stuff...

Well what are we evolved to eat?...

I totally respect that it's peoples individual choices what they eat, but I think it's plain wrong for the government to give out ridiculous, industry sponsored advice, which in the uk they have been doing since the early 80s

Rant over!

You're not an idiot! There was a bit in the programme where he was saying how can we blame ourselves, and he is right. The junk is made to be addictive. All we can do is try our best.

My worst sin at the moment is eating low carb but giving lots of high sugar stuff to my kids coz its easier...

I was awake at 4.30, this morning, tossed and turned, disturbed OH so thought I'd get up, have a cuppa and come on here. I'm sure its the sugar that I ate last night that has done this to me!!!!! I know it makes me feel cr*p, sluggish, sleepy etc, so why give in? I suppose like all addicts, coz thats what we are isn't it? I need to learn to abstain for life.............trouble is temptation is everywhere you look and I sometimes think that of all addictions food is the hardest to break...............tho have not been addicted to drugs, alcohol or smoking so maybe that's just wishful thinking...............but food is everywhere we look and we need it on a daily basis to survive so that's why I think its more difficult than most as we just can't give it up...... just gotta learn to eat the right things.

Going away tomorrow for a week camping tho think the site we are going to has Wifi, so hope to keep up to date with what is going on that way :woohoo:

Going to try very hard to stick to low-carb wherever possible as I know otherwise I will become bloated, sluggish and feel awful.............will have to remind myself of this often I'm sure.................oh well.............who said doing something worthwile was ever easy????

Phoenyx you intrigued me with your JUDDDD, so went looking and am intrigued.............when I come back from my week away I think I may incorporate this in my routine with the HD, as thinking about it I could have an egg salad for lunch and a tuna salad for tea and that would be probably less than 500 cals for the day and then resume normal HD for the Up days..............and if I go without breakfast on the DDays then I am also incorporating IF too.................do you think that will work?

I will still be low carbing as I want to continue with it, but need to give my body a bit of a boost and maybe this is exactly what it needs..................actually looking forward to trying it!!

Hi there:) just to say sounds like you are working hard on the right things and should work eventually! I'm a paleo fan although actually like to make sure i stay low carb a bit more and avoid things like honey. I think judd with low carb could be really successful - it's another form of IF in my mind. I worry that some judders though are using those nasty food industry low cal foods - packed with sugar:eek: doesn't make sense to me!

Enjoy your hols

I totally agree food addiction is one of the hardest nuts to crack
with smoking, drugs and booze it's something that is not essential
Unlike food you have to eat to live you can't just avoid food can you ...

Re breakfasts it's hard isn't it
But what about a cold meat platter ( go Continental )

Nor me............I want to stick to low carb on my down days and think that an egg or tuna salad is totally doable and staying within the confines of low-carb as I know by eating like this I feel at my best :)

Re breakfasts it's hard isn't it

Hi Kally, I could eat a cold meat platter, but I know I would get fed up after a couple of days ..........which is really strange as eating cereal everyday never bored me.................why on earth is that? Been thinking of incorporating updays down days way of eating and on those days I will probably avoid breakfast.

I don't do alternate days on juddd - I kind of play it by ear. This week I've done one 24 hr fast, one down day (500cal) and 3 days where I've not eaten breakfast.

The only hard and fast rules I stick to are that I always follow a low cal / fasting day with an up day of about 2000 cal and if I feel v full it's time to not eat for a while!

The way I see it, by following a paleo diet, I should be losing weight anyway, even if it is slow, so anything else I do is a bonus!

So have a play and find what works for you. Just remember, if you get too hungry, make sure you eat something. :) good luck!
