Pregnancy and Baby Advice Thread: From Conception to Birth, and Beyond!

Hey girls,

This has probably been discussed before but i can't remember the answers! This unprepared mummy-to-be is going shopping tomorrow to try and get what we need so i feel a little more organised :p.

How many sheets for the crib do you think i need to buy? Would 3 be enough - one to use, one to wash and one spare?

Also how many packs of maternity pads and breast pads do you think i need to have on hand?

Thanks in advance!!! :)

I've only bought 2 cot sheets so hoping they be enough, should be as I have a dryer if I need it.

I've bought one pack of proper maternity pads and then some normal super absorbent ones, from what I've read wings are best and it seems to be a bit of trial and error. I've bought the maternity ones to use at the start when I'm assuming it will be heaviest or to stop my waters leaking.

Not got many breast pads in just one box so would also like to see advice on these :-D xxx

Ah thanks Danni thats useful to know about the pads, maybe i'll buy some maternity ones and also take some normal nighttime towels or something that are thinner and more absorbant...not overly keen about having those big thick yucky towels for long haha.

Missy or someone else might be able to give us an idea on the breast pads....i have no idea how often you have to change them...or if i will leak much before milk comes in etc etc.

I ended up with a tonne of Moses basket sheets and I'm glad I did as I get through loads! All it takes is a leaky nappy or a midnight spit up and you need an extra sheet to hand there and then. Plus I have the carrycot with the pram so that needs sheets too. I have three multipacks and that's doing me fine as long as I keep cycling them through the wash.

I'm still using my one pack of breast pads (I don't seem to have leakage problems thankfully and I find I only need them at night) but I needed way more maternity pads than I thought. Because my waters went early I got through a pack before I was even in labour as I had a day with my waters leaking before the induction was started, plus the rest of the day before the drip started. Thank god for the hospital branch of boots! I think I went through about four packs in total before the bleeding got light enough after a couple of weeks that I could use normal pads.

Hope that helps? xxx

I have two Moses basket sheets but may need to get more once baby is here. I have about 30 maternity pads though and one box of breast pads but think that has about 40 in. Don't know if I will need more or less but guessed that would do to begin with.

I've yet to get sheets.. I've so far 2 cot sheets.. Need to get more of them..
Am stealing Danni's tip and using plain white cotton pillow cases in place of moses basket sheets but will have 1 r 2 on hand just in case...
As for Maternity Pads.. I got 2 packs, and 2 packs of Kotex huge ones.. That will be enough to get me through at least til am released.. And if I need more i'll get them but if I can get away with Always night-time I'll get them...
I got 2 boxes of Superdrug Breast Pads.. Hoping they're enough to at least get me home and again if I need more, I'll pick them up...

I was having to use two of the maternity pads at the same time to start with, side by side but slightly overlapping. I got through LOADS!! Breast pads I haven't needed. My boobs swelled up a few days ago but no leakage yet!! I've got some just in case though. I was worried that I didn't have enough crib sheets but too many Moses sheets but Cole doesn't seem to like the crib yet so we're using the Moses day and night so I'm glad we got plenty.

We had 5 Moses basket sheets which did for the pram as well and it was plenty.
Re mat pads I only used 1 pack as I don't like pads without wings so had loads of the always night time ones instead.
Breast pad wise I've tried loads and the best I've found are lansinoh. They are really absorbent (I leak quite a bit) and v comfy, so much so I can't feel them. Tommee tippee are next best. Both are quite large diameter wise so if the pad moves you still get coverage!
Boots are ok. Sainsburys don't bother they itch as do asda I found.
But each to their own!
Am so jealous of you all....I love having my little one don't get me wrong but it was so exciting packing my bag and doing all the preparation!

How weird, I was only thinking today my bum feels a bit sore. Didn't have a clue why. Makes sense that it's the pads though. I'm still using the maternity ones because I want to use them up before I go onto the Always ones. X

yep! its because there so big, its not dry down there and they move slightly with walking/getting up etc. so i used to put vaseline on which helped a lot x

I've considered using Cole's sudocreme!! ;-) I never wear pads so it's strange having anything down there. X

Aww that's lovely! I've got tears! I saw another pic on Facebook that was similar, it said 'I'm a tiger whose earned her stripes!' But yours is better.
You know the quote 'to have a child is to forever have a piece of your heart walking around outside your body'? It's true! And you only love them more the bigger they get. Xx

Ooh I've also got some:

This is Abbie having snatched the spoon out of my hand....you could practically hear her shouting 'me do, me do'. The mess was quite spectacular. <img src="http://www.minimins.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=119627"/>

Hey Hun

Should you be taking iron tablets even if iron levels ok? Do you take a pregnancy multivitamin anyway? If you do then be careful taking any more iron. My mw said high iron levels can be as dangerous as low ones.

Sorry if I have misunderstood xxx
