I'm hoping to work up until 39 weeks... But that's assuming my doctor will agree to lie about my dates on my form.. Otherwise it'll be 38 weeks... (I really need to get to my doc with them forms!!!)

Why has he got to lie about your date? Intriguing! I finished at 33 weeks, as had annual leave to take like a few others. Didn't have much choice in the matter but once I had gone I was glad! Slept much better, managed to get everything sorted out, enjoyed the sunshine etc! My actual mat leave didn't start til I was 38+3 though. But then I went 2 weeks over so was twiddling my thumbs at the end! One thing I would say, that friends of mine have found is that by delaying your mat leave as late as poss that if baby comes earlier than you expect you don't have time to rest! My friend finished the Friday before Xmas a few yrs ago, due date was Xmas day, her waters broke on the way home and he had her son the following morning! No chance for lie ins, extra sleep, big clean, leg wax - nothing! Just a cautionary tale! Xxx

Ha ha... I love that no time for a leg wax was thrown in there... LOL
In Ireland by law we have to finish up 2 weeks before our due date.. So I want my doc to say I'm due 27th so I can finish a week later...

Its been pretty rubbish for me because I ended up being signed off for most of my pregnancy due to illness and dizziness etc and so I took super early maternity leave from 29 weeks and took all my annual leave before that

Thanks girls I guess everyone is different.
My problem is I really do have to be specific with my employer about dates as I work as a nanny and not a big
Company so getting someone to cover at short notice is not possible .
I suppose if they have found a replacement for me by then they might be able to have her on standby just in case I want to finish earlier but I guess that also depends on whether she has commitments .
I guess once I know a date for out house completion it will be easier to make a decision but you know what that's like! seems to be a nightmare getting any information out of the sales people and half the time it's wrong anyway.

Girls, my nose is absolutely throbbing.. Its pulsating with the pain.. So I've given in and asked a girl in work to get me some paracetemol... She's got me Paralief Paracetemol 500mg tablets.... Are they safe to take???
I'm still holding off but if the pain doesn't ease I may give in and take some.. But only if I know 110% they are the "right" paracetemol...
I've checked the ingredients and its just says "Each tablet contains 500mg paracetemol"
But what's scaring me is the leaflet says to check with yer doc or midwife before taking them...... scared!!!!

Sorry I'm not sure, I took 2 paracetamol before for back pain but just did a general google and it said it was ok on NHS site, I never looked into the mg of them :-/

Yes carry on! It's the ones with caffeine and decongestants in you need to watch for. Pure paracetamol is fine xx

You can take 2 tablets = 1g. Usual rules, no more than 8 in 24hrs, at least 4 hrs apart etc x

This is probably a really stupid question but... how soon should you take a baby out of the house after they're born? Or have visitors round? Maybe I'm being really paranoid but worrying about colds and flu with it being winter still!

Reason I ask is that my cousin is visiting from Spain the week before Xmas and there's going to be a bit of a family do at mums house. I know everyone will want me to bring baby with but a) will I feel like it that soon and b) should I? Everyone will want a snuggle with the little dude and I can see me being the most paranoid mother in history at this rate worrying about germs and stuff! xxx

Whether you'll feel up to it or not hun really depends on how the delivery goes... And how your recovery is going...
I dunno if I was wrong or not but I took my niece out the day she got home from hospital.. She was born in August though and would have been 3 days... And my SIL brought the boys out the days after they for out of hospital too.. So 3 r 4 days old too... They were Feb and March... I would think as long as you have bubs nicely wrapped up and you feel OK it'd be OK to take him out anytime after being discharged...

I think just wait and see how you feel and how bubs is. We're planning on going shopping for baby clothes once bubs is here but gonna decide once he/she is here and we can assess it. I don't think there's anything wrong with taking baby out to see family if you feel up to it. You've got to do it sometime so maybe earlier is better? Plus he could end up getting a cold from visitors so taking him out probably isn't any different xxx

Thanks girls, can you tell I have no clue with babies? ;) Don't even know something that simple! I know even colds can be awful when they're tiny so I don't want him catching anything if I can help it. Was just wondering if there was a recommended time for keeping them at home or if it is just down to personal stuff/how you feel? Sounds like the latter! xxx

Have any of you bought a thermometer yet? What kind did you get? I'm thinking I want an ear one and have had a look round and found some good reviews for a Braun one. It's on sale in Boots at the minute for £32 and we've got a £20 voucher so would only cost us £12. Anyone had good or bad experiences with them??

We have got the boots non contact one. You can do body, room, water and food temperature on it. It was £39.99 but £10 off a few weeks back x

That sounds good :) I had one on my list and totally forgot to get one. And my nephew has been poorly this week which reminded me so thought I better get one. Will have a look at the one you've got too, thanks x

I'd not thought of getting a normal thermometer - the monitor has a room thermometer but didn't occur to me that we'd need one for him too! Will have to have a look into it...

They say an ear one is better than an oral one for baby but I need to research a bit more. Just don't want to risk him/her being ill and me not realising :(
