Pregnancy and Slimming World

Oooo sorry didn't see your message before mia! Good luck ttc! :hug99::flowers:

mia-angel - good luck on the ttc :) also re SW you can carry it on the whole way through your pregnancy if your midwife will sign you off at your first appointment.

grumble - I think it really depends on you as a person - I know britmum hasn't put on too much and she is nearly due. I'm at 31 weeks and have put on just over a stone - but I know that it's due to lack of self control on my part - for the first trimester I lived on white bread and butter! and I'm still eating it at the moment - am really struggling SW wise.
I did lose 2lb's 2 weeks ago when I really tried to stick to SW so it can be done - my plan is to pick up some SAS logs this week in the hope that they will make me think before I eat anything this week!

anyway off to WI to see what damage has been done this week :)

Thanks Rosie! I'm hoping my self control stays with me! Not sure how i will cope with m.s or hormones though!
Just over a stone is normal i would have thought? Well done :) My friend put on 4 stone when she had her first (she was quite small before about 8-9 stone) and i told myself (even though i'm a LOT larger) i'm not going to do the same! Healthy eating from now on will benefit not just me but the baby too :)

Good luck at your w.i! Do you get a lot of support from your C & the group? When did you end up telling your C?

i dont think a stone over all gain is average by any stretch of the imagination- its great for those who manage it but by no means the norm.

id say up to 2, 2 and a half stone is what i concider the average weight gain, or to my knowlege anyways. my midwife assured me this is what i should expect, anything less is great.

it all very much depends x

Ooops i ment 2 stone! Rule of thumb...no one listen to me :D

I ment to ask everyone, are you using anything like bio oil? I want to use it but it's made from part of a shark (liver or something) & i don't agree with that- so i wonder what else i could use? I've heard palmers cocoa putter is good...it also smells of chocolate mmmm :)

I use berts bees mama bee belly butter, plus I've got some of their delish massage oil (suitable for baby too) and leg cream for later - all valentines pressies from hubby!
Just need to persuade him to use the massage oil more!

Use anything on your stomach that will get the moisture in. One of the women (HoneyOC) on here used olive oil.

I've been using solid cocoa butter and dream cream from Lush.

It's a bit of a myth that using cream will stop you getting stretch marks, it's a genetic thing. It'll just help your skin stay supple and they may fade a bit quicker. I'll be riddled with them as I get stretch marks when my boobs get bigger, when I gain weight, when I lose weight etc. But mines do fade very quickly.

Gaining weight during pregnancy about 28 - 32lbs is a given, its made up of baby, fluid, fat stores (you lay about 7-8lbs down for breastfeeding), bigger boobs etc your uterus itself weighs 2lbs more by the time baby's fully baked.

That's all weight that should go once baby arrives though.

I'm 26 weeks (almost) and put on a stone now. Although today i had a roll and pie (don't ask) and going out for curry later tonight, admittedly those meals aren't helping, but by the same token I'm not worried in the slightest about a 2- 2.5stone gain as long as me and baby are healthy. Weight can always come off.

Thanks girls, i did have a word with my doctor and she said i shouldnt be loosing weight if im pregnant...not even in the first 12 weeks. I was suprised to hear that as ive heard lots of women carry on loosing weight.

Hopefully i will be joining you all soon, good luck with your pregnancies and births x

Well i was thinking about almond oil as I've heard it's really good for skin, i use it for my nails already. Maybe i could use that for when i come out of the shower & some e45 other times.

I'm pretty sure i'll get stretch marks seeing as i have some from weight gain & from when i was going through puberty. I suppose if i just look after my skin the marks will fade quicker :)

I can't believe the uterus weighs 2lbs more when the baby is fully formed! It's amazing!

mia alot of doctors are uneducated on the benifits of sw during pregnancy, no you shouldnt be loosing tonnes during pregnancy, but theres no reason why you cant limit the gain or even loose a little. xxx

Hiya all

Grumble - Like the others have said it depends on each lady. In my 1st trimester I gained 6lbs and in my 2nd i gained nothing. I'm now 31 weeks and I've still only gained 8lbs overall. I've never lost any weight but just simply maintained weekly.

Many medical practitioners don't know abt SW. My MD didn't have a clue until she looked into the plan.

Mia - I use bio oil and so far no extra stretch marks. I found coco butter didn't work for me. I found bio oil worked really well in making my current stretch marks lighter.

Hope you're all doing really well

im more using the butter for moisturising rather than avoiding stretch marks.. iv already got loads of silver ones from loosing weight so hopefully i wont get too many more!

Thanks cheeky :) It's great to hear from women who are doing the sw plan :)

I've read a lot about creams not working too well but oils seem to work better...think i'll try to use both- not bio oil though- it makes me cringe :D

The burts bees stuff isn't honey based necessarily, but it's a really high percentage natural ingredients. The belly butter is made from cocoa butter I think and tbh doesn't really have much of a smell. The massage oil is lovely, with a citrus fragrance

Ladies who can feel baby moving

I find that when I eat or drink certain things baby has a wee flurry of activity.

Decaff coffee sends baby into a wee movement pattern
Roll and pie, brown sauce today sent baby mental, like for a good hour of constant moving, so much so that my stomach looked like it was boiling if you know what I mean?
Sweet things get a wee movement too.

Just back from having curry (had pumpkin and okra curry good for calcium!) and not a thing. Diddly.

I'd have thought curry would have set off a wee movement or two?

What about you guys?

Also just noticed I'm almost into double figures in the countdown! Argh!

as far as I know the average weight gain in pregnancy is approx 28lb's as other's have said.
In saying that everyone is different so everyone will gain at different rates and different stages, weight gain is normal and is more than likely going to happen.

I managed a loss tonight of 1lb - nearly fell off the scales!!! I've been no where near plan for a fair while! Although I think one of the problems is that I'm just not getting hungry at the moment at all - I'm eating when I think I should otherwise I just wouldn't eat.

My consultant has always been so supportive - I told her as soon as I found out I was pregnant and she has been great - I told the group once I'd had my 20 week scan and everyone has been fab with me, I really appreciate the support I've had since I've been pregnant. It's been really nice.
This week I'm planning on getting back on plan and have some SAS logs to try and help me along - will pin them on the kitchen door to try and help.

To be honest I'm not worrying about my weight so much at the moment - I just want to get back on plan and eating properly to try and help my overall diet as I've been quite bad recently!

Good luck to everyone and try not to stress about any weight gain as it is your body's way of protecting and nerturing that precious little baby and there is time afterwards to worry about losing it again.
