Red's food diary - advice very gratefully received

Ok so today I lost another 1lb and I know I have no business being fed up about it since I have had incredible losses and this is another loss and not a gain, I still do feel fed up. I accept that this might be tied in with my other problems right now as well as I'm generally feeling as if I'm about to burst into tears at any moment.

I walk everywhere and I've walked even more recently so I am getting some exercise. I really need to do the exercise video but with having to take on extra students now I find a lot of my time tied up planning things, writing wworksheets etc. becasue this is my first lot of students.

So the last few days I've kept my syns lowish - below 10. I wonder if I should increase them? I've had a look through other diaries and people use them a a lot more than I do. Also I wonder if I should do a week of Easy Extra again to wean me off the extra Hex's

I feel like I've done something wrong but I know I haven't and I'm still losing. I guess I'm just ungrateful - becasue I had these bigger losses before. It's a bit petulant of me really to be bothered. I need an attitude change. A 1lb loss is a GOOD thing :D. Ok.

Sorry for being unecessarily whingy.

Today is red though - will start the Extra Easy tomorrow again for a week I think:

Well done!! A 1lb loss is a very good thing!! I know it's disappointing if you have been used to bigger losses but this is where people often fall off the wagon- they get impatient with smaller losses and can't be bothered any more!! I KNOW that's not you and that you're loving the plan and will stick to it through thick and thin, but if you can get your head around the fact that 1lb is a good loss and that they mount up in no time then it just helps to avoid disappointment and to develop a long-term approach!XXX

Oh, don't feel bad! 1lb is still a great loss... well done!
I think that your massive weight losses at the beginning were awesome, but probably not sustainable. It must be disheartening, but you are still losing, which is fantastic. You've lost an incredible amount in such a short space of time and you should be so proud! Maybe the loss is slowing because of the excercise and you're building up more muscle - remember, muscle is heavier than fat but the more muscle you build up the more fat you will burn. It might be worth taking measurements as well as relying on the scales? That way you will see if the losses are slowing completely and something in your diet needs to be altered, or if you're actually losing inches and, therefore, building muscle. This is something that I am definitely considering doing... Also, keep in mind that your endocrine system is intrinsically linked with everything else, and is very sensitive - even a small amount of stress can affect hormones which can, in turn, affect how much water you retain and how tightly your body will hold on to fat reserves.

Mixing up your days can only help... Personally, I love EE. I'm tempted to try red/green days to mix things up a bit, but am a little concerned about following them 100% and having two HEs. I would probably 'spend' them on bread and cheese, which I can't see as being particularly helpful. It seemed to work for many years for many people before EE came along, though, so I think my worries are likely to be unfounded.

There are loads of tricks that seem to work for people, though... I think you've tried Speed soup which helps a lot of people (although I didn't drink enough water when I tried it, so it did the opposite for me!!) and Snuggle69 swears by her Fishy Weeks which also seem to have a lot of devotees!

Hope you feel better and not so disappointed with your loss. It was not a gain!!

xx

Little Sausage and funcurls I know, I know I should embrace my 1lb loss, as you say sausage the initial weight loss rate was unsustainable and it is better to slow down now. I think I'll make my peace with it and just be happy to be losing at all. I'm certainly not for throwing in the towel - all losses are good and certainly better than a rapid regain that would come from losing heart. So I'm pleased with my 1lb loss and at 1lb a week I'll still get there in the end. :D

Thanks for posting girls and not telling me to shut up moaning when I don't need to ;)

Excellent! I have embraced my small losses, having had them from the start. But I do remember my disappointment at my first ever weigh in. 2lb seemed like NOTHING in comparison to you! I just wanted to bury my head in a big cake.

Fortunately, I didn't :)

Hi Red,

That's the spirit! A 1 lb is still a really good loss and just think of it over a longer period of time - if you lost a lb a week you would get to your goal in the fairly near future. Keep your chin up as you are doing so well and your food always looks great and you're so lovely :)

I know what you mean about some days things being more difficult than others and that's just how it goes especially on a roller coaster weight loss journey, sometimes you just don't know what to think. I have been there - and can you believe the other night when I hit target I went to bed feeling a bit glum about it! So I think sometimes we don't really know what to think. I remember you saying that you haven't really noticed that many differences yet, well once you start noticing and especially when other people start noticing that's when I think you start to get really motivated!

xxxxxx

Thank you Jules xxxx I espect feeling glum about getting to target is the 'what now' feeling but now you just eat healthily (and look spectacular :D)

I have changed today's diary - only slightly moved the greek salad to fit in with tea to keep the syns but I needed a quicker lunch and had some super-free butternut squash soup in the fridge and a cooked chicken breast and had that instead.

Hello lovely ladies thanks for stopping by. I am a bit busy this week - will hopefully have some time on Weds to catch up with all your diaries - so sorry I haven't visited yet this week. Other half is away and my littlest is still ill. I have taken on another student (since I lost my marketing job I am trying to make up some money) and I have taken on a big card order and several commissioned Mother's Day cards which have to be done this week of course. So I haven't been online much at all.

Sausage I just kind of made it up but this is what I did, no quantities I'm afriad except for the cheese. Cheese-wise I used 4 Laughing cow Light and 42g of reduced fat cheddar. The mash I mashed wih a couple of spoons of fat free cottage cheese and a couple of spoons of fromage frais which gave it a nice light feeling. (Usually I would stir through cheddar).

I just laid the fish raw on the bottom (quick version - you could poach in water and use that water for the stock for a more intense taste), quartered about 4 hard boiled eggs and scattered them over. I used hake and smoked haddock but I would have used salmon if I'd had it. I don't like prawns so I don't use them. Then I scattered 2 finely chopped garlic cloves over that. The sauce I made with one tbsp wholemeal flour some veg stock and the laughing cow and a couple of tbsp fat free fromage frais and chopped fresh parsley. I added half the reduced fat cheddar. Then I poured the sauce over the fish added some peas topped with the mash and sprinkled the remaining cheddar over the top and cooked for until browned (about 40-45 mins) on 200.

I know that's not much of a recipe but I sort of make things like that up as I go along. I've been making fish pie for the family without a recipe for years so I just ignored the white sauce and made it more SW friendly. I think I saw the thing about using stock in place of white sauce in one of the magazines so I tried it my own way and it was actually really good. Obviously not as rich as non-SW friendly fish pie (which I also made for the boys as they love it) but it was lovely.

This is today's food (the rice for tea had a LOT of veggies in it: finely diced carrot, mushrooms, courgette, spring onions and sliced baby corn and the diet coke sauce had pepper strips in it. There was definately a third superfree in there.... :

Monday 28th March - Easy Extra

That sounds great, I will definitely try using stock, flour and fromage frais as a White sauce. While you cab getaway with quark going slightly solid in a lasagne, it wouldn't work with a fish pie. Thank you! I've been making fish pie forever, too, but it's hard to know what to substitute all that butter and milk for! Hope you are ok xx
