Sarah's Target & 10K Mission

Dave's used Strava a few times but tends to just challenge himself via his Garmin.

I've been using MapMyRun but one of the girls from work told me to get myself on Strava.

When I'm enjoying a run and feeling good I can do 7 minute km...which feels slow to me, but looking at a couple of friends who are on MapMyRun, it's average-ish?

Yeah Liz and her gang are right fitties, but she's told me if I can comfortably do the distance, they will slow the pace down for me! Don't suppose I will be doing much chatting...just trying to keep up and not collapse!! xxx

It's a tricky one. I don't really know what is defined as fast or slow. I can comfortably do 9:30 - 10 min miles now on shorter runs (3-4 miles) but anything faster and I wouldn't be able to talk at the same time and my enjoyment wouldn't be the same. That's just me though. I prefer to slow down and do the distance rather than get faster at shorter distances?

Maybe after the marathon I'll try getting faster at park runs or something. But I can't really see it being something I'd enjoy.

I think for the marathon I could do what you do. Maybe 6:30 - 7 min kms. It's going to take me forever to run 26.2 miles!!

Strava's great for seeing improvements though and comparing things. I think it's the best app. I use it much more than garmin connect now!x

One of my friends did the Brighton marathon last year in 5 hours. She said she went out too fast and by ten miles she had a bit of a dizzy spell and struggled to get herself going again. She also stopped to help someone who had fallen over, which I think cost her some time, bles her. I know a girl who does proper competitive marathons and she literally dedicates her life to keeping herself in top form - it's such a commitment. I think if you just want to do one, it's more about the completing it and the sense of achievement than it is about time.

I might download Strava for my Thursday run and see how it feels. I like that MMR tells me every time I've one 0.5km - assume Strava will do the same kinda stuff? xx

I would love to be one of those fitties! That's the dream! Although I prefer to be out on my own so noone else can witness the parts when I'm dying! Started putting some running back into my dog walks lately because it's bright enough again in the mornings to go down to a place quiet enough to let the puppies run which means I can! Although I often have to stop to try and get Lucy to come back from the beach. She spends way too much time eating/paying with seaweed and god knows what else! I've never heard of strava! I am loving my fitbit though! x

Ah bless your little doggies! I LOVE running by the beach - but we are about 30 mins away from the closest one so it's not very practical. When we go to Bournemouth to stay with Dave's mum, I love going for a run at Sandbanks - it's so beautiful!

You're a right fitty, Tash, I reckon you could easily smash a 10k!

I know what you mean about being on your own. I often struggle if I have to say good morning or thank you to someone when I'm running- I must sound like a wheezing old woman! xxx

I'm not sure actually as I use my garmin when running rather than the strava app and then when I upload it to my PC is automatically syncs to Strava as I prefer their interface to the garmin one. I'm sure it does though - all of those apps seem to, you can prob tinker with the settings? xx

Hey girls,

Had a silly argument with Dave last night - I was looking forward to cooking us a yummy SW carbonara (with a synned glass of wine) last night to celebrate us being in our 'new' house for a year. But it turns out he was doing a fast day and he didn't tell me. I had a bit of a strop at him because I was disappointed but he then stomped off and said it was me taking my work stress out on him. Maybe there was a bit of that, but I did think he would want to have a nice dinner to celebrate, especially as I'm out at dancing tonight. Boys, huh! He'd cleaned the kitchen and put the clean washing away by the time I got home so maybe he thought I was being ungrateful? He left this morning without saying goodbye. Hmm...

Not sure what the food plan is today...might make the carbonara when I get in later. Wasn't enormously fond of the Gloriously Skinny soup but might try a different flavour today. Not totally on plan at the mo but managing to keep meals on plan (except last night when I had a Graze coconut cake and 2 custard creams in my grump on the sofa instead of dinner!) so that's a step forward. Planning a food shop tonight straight after work and a run tomorrow so hopefully I can get into a good place. This weekend is a challenge as it's V day and also my Dad's and Grannie's birthdays so we are out for lunch on Sunday. Need to check out the menu and see what the damage will be! xxx

Oh huni sorry to hear about you two. I'm sure everything will be right as rain by the time you get home. If you want to send him over to mine to clean the kitchen and do the washing, feel free....Robbie is still driving me insane with his lack of domestic cleanliness and i had a massive go at him this morning as he left.

The carbonara sounds yummy! I'm sure it will be worth waiting for and just as good tonight or tomorrow if a belated 1 year house celebration is on the cards.

The custard creams and graze cake sounds like it would still be within syns?! So dont be too hard on yourself! :)

Ah thanks ladies. He's just text me asking if he can cook me carbonara tonight so I've obviously been forgiven! Having a better day at work today (so far at least!) so hopefully will get home in a better mood! Looking forward to dancing tonight too.

Ging - sorry to hear Robbie's not getting his pinny on often enough. Happy to loan you Dave for a very reasonable rate ;)

Oh honey, sometimes Ian and I are the same and then by the time we get home, we just start talking again and carry on as normal, it might just be one of those things.
the carbonara sounds lush and I'm sure it will sort things out.

Can you send Dave up to my house too as cleaning the kitchen and putting the washing away seems to be out of Ian's remit at the moment!
xx

Haha. I definitely shouldn't complain about Dave - he really is a good boy. We are back on proper speaking terms now, which is good. We tend to be a bit fiery together when one of us is stressed at work...it's only natural. I'm not very good at letting go of stress...which is why I need to do more running as the fresh air really clears my head. Looking forward to a run tomorrow afternoon while it's still daylight. I'm thinking if I have a good foam roll and stretch tonight and stretch before my run tomorrow, I might try and up the distance. 5k might be a bit much after this break...I haven't gone that far since the summer time but I have a route in mind so if I have time to spare, I think I'll go for it! xxx

Grr...just when I think work is calming down a little and I'm looking forward to my WFH day, I think 'I'll have a cheeky lie-in and not logon until 8am', I get downstairs and look at my phone to find the world's longest email chain and several missed calls from my boss starting at 7am about a project we're working on for the MD and figures he needs. I should have dragged my ass out of bed earlier! Now feeling super on edge again.

Dave's doing a 500 cal day today but I don't think I have the willpower for that. Instead I'm planning to try some baked oats for the first time - excited to try them! xx

Morning lovely! Glad to hear you and Dave are ok again now. It must be hard to plan meal times when you are both fasting on different days. Me and Jason can get firery over nothing sometimes just because we are both tired.
Sorry to hear about your work stresses and don't punish yourself for having a lie in... it sounds like you needed it xxx

We're both normally in the office around 7am and I tend to be online early on WFH days so I suppose she just assumed. I managed to get rid of one project last week and hoped this one would be gone this week, but it's rumbling on. And as it's for the MD it's really high profile. No idea when it will be over to be honest...just praying it's soon!!

In between all the chaos, I managed to try out baked oats (30g oats, 1 egg, , milk, handful of raspberries, flaked almonds, vanilla extract, sprinkle of brown sugar) and it was kind of delicious! xx
