The really slow loss team!

Yeah I've been totally honest, I always am, I don't weigh things properly but I always know what I'm cooking and weights on the things. So I don't get it. It shouldn't be this hard should it. I mean I don't exercise loads but I don't drive so walk loads and I've been swimming when I can. Argh I wanted to go to Thailand feeling good about myself and I just feel crap.
Charl - have you got a diary where you post your food? If so give us the link so we can have a look.

You do need to weight everything though to be able to gauge the calories accurately. It's the only way unfortunately.
It is so easy to under-estimate that the potato is 200g say - when in fact it is 250 - that's 25% more calories!

As I've said before it is easy to cheat without realising. I do SW and I have to count syns.
In the very early days I would just ignore the odd extra ½ syn for a bit of mayo, or a bit of gravy, or a couple of cheese triangles etc.
Then I realised that they weren't the odd extra ½ syn - they were a whole syn and I'd had 5 extra and over plan.
Thats 33% too many and at the rate I lose weight that meant a gain or at the least a STS.

So before going to the doctors have a week where you weigh every single solitary thing that you eat and drink and see if it makes any difference.

So do not beat yourself up about lack of exercise - if you have no car and are walking everywhere that will help.
But you do not have to exercise to lose weight. I can't - my arthritis won't let me. I just go swimming in the summer when the public pool is open.
Exercise will not make you lose that much weight - but it will tone things up and make you look slimmer.

I'm looking At my food diary now actually and I had 2 days off plan last week, I think as I weighed myself on my mums scales I was kidding myself that hers were right. Its just they showed a loss from last week so I thought even if they're wrong they're still showing a loss so it must have been worth something. I guess I should just stick to proper scales and not count anything else, I can't link as I'm not on a computer but you can just go through my profile I think? X

Lou - well done for sticking to it last night. I know whenever I'm trying to get into something, whether its back into SW after a few weeks off or having less syns, i find it hard but after a few days it becomes routine & doesn't feel so much of a chore. Hope you're able to stick to plan :)

Annya - YAY well done!!! I know how hard you've worked for that 1.6 :)

Are you absolutely sure you know the weights without weighing each time? I used to guess my cereal using my "diet bowl" & it worked out I was having double what I should have been, it didn't look much more but sometimes it doesn't take much to have double an allowance. Even if the weights were a little more than you think, each meal the extra calories will add up.....if you don't think its that do you think maybe you could be under eating??

I used to be a serial weigher, pretty much everyday, but all that does is mess with your head & leave you feeling mixed up. This past week I weighed myself everyday & felt disheartened that it read a 2lb gain for no reason. On official WI day it was a STS, i deserved a loss but if I feel rubbish because I 'think' I've gained I sometimes give up & eat rubbish. Thankfully I didn't do that this week. If you can, stick to weighing in once a week so it's accurate & always use the same scales, whether yours or in somewhere like Boots.

I'll start weighing everything properly then, it's quite hard to know exactly I guess as I'm making meals for the family. But even if I am not weighing precisely Im still following SW, and counting syns so even restricting my portions should have some impact? As before I just ate until it was gone as it was free or Superfree now I have portions and stick to it?! So even that adjustment surely should be positive! So annoying! X

I understand, I only have to cook for myself so its much easier. Are you doing SW or counting calories? Or counting calories using SW principles (if that makes sense)? What I love about SW is not having to weigh free food, but due to hormone problems I know too many carbs don't work so I will weigh them to get the recommended amount. I don't note my calorie intake but I feel if that's what you're doing you want to be accurate & weigh everything. If you still don't lose then at least you know you've noted it all accurately. Do you stop eating when you're satisfied?

I'm doing SW as a diet, but realised I can't really do the whole unlimited free/Superfree thing so thought I'd input my cals into MFP and I was eating way over what they recommended me to eat to lose 2lbs a week. So started using both things together, I do the cup option as I figured when cooking for 4 was going to be the most accurate without exactly weighing... And limiting my pasta/meat.. I don't really have that stop button and if there's food in front of me I'll carry on. I've been way way better with portion control and am eating off smaller plates too, I'll just up my exercise as apart from days where I slip up I cant see how I could eat any less really without it being unhealthy. I've realised in the last 3 weeks I've cheated 3 times, but even so I've balanced it out or thought I had, still my diet is pretty good now so to gain is really frustrating! As you have to eat loads of excess cals to gain just 1lb?! Which I definitely haven't done! X

Yeah I know 3500 = 1lb but I've always been baffled how I stick to plan, never overeat but I can easily gain a couple of lb's but there's no way I've eaten an extra 7000 calories! Its weird. Exercise will always be good as you'll burn the calories & tone up at the same time. Maybe those cheat days have been the problem, its good you've realised that. Maybe have a few weeks where you really really stick to your daily intake & keep at your workouts & see where it takes you.

Thanks guys.. Well done Lou! That's super sweet! Xx

Lou - get over here onto the naughty step and party! Drinks on you methinks!
Well done chica - you seem to be on a roll at the mo.

Charl - I've had a quick look at your diary and it loooks . . . well ok
BUT
I think you may be underestimating syns . . .
- no way is patatas bravas free! Neither are Spanish meat balls.
- Was your mackerel fresh - if not there are syns to count
- Did you really only have 1 LEVEL tbsp of tomato sauce for 1 syn on your bacon butty? I use more like 2 or 3!!!

EE does not work for me - too many processed carbs. You are having lots of cous cous, rice, pasta.
Try a few red days - and justy have natural carbs like spuds. And cut out bread.

Then if you are still not losing you have a problem

Thanks hun. The calorie counting of Sw foods has been a turn around. I was eating way too much possibly double what I am now. No wonder I wasn't losing weight!! I had a healthy sarnie for a snack taking me upto 1500 cals for the day and no guilt WOOO. I'm keeping this up, I've found what works for me. So... What You all having :D

Ha! Thanks, sorry I should say they are homemade, and I didn't use oil in anything. And yes sorry it's fresh mackerel not smoked. I don't measure tomato sauce, so that's definitely something to measure. Thank u for looking through it. Xxx

Another day of planning today. I'm starting to get a bit of a buzz from planning my food and sticking to it, ending the day knowing I've done really well. Sad or what?! Lol. I'm going to try fit in jillian this week cos I'm out next Saturday for a friends birthday and I want to
Look good and I noticed I'm
Looking a little flabby even though I've lost weight so I need to do
More toning exercises :) just not sure when I can fit it in :/ but I will somewhere. If I lose 2.5 (big ask I know) this week I'll be finally under 11 stone and I know that will really spur me on it did the last twice I lost weight. I REALLY want it bad I can almost taste it haha

I ended up having a sandwich last night but my cals were only 1500 for the day and that's not knocking off any of the exercise I did so I'm pleased with that and I showed restraint on the alcohol front, I allowed myself 4 cans of g and t and didn't have more. Which is an absolute FIRST. Got my big chufty badge on today :D
