TOUGH LOVE-APPLY WITHIN

Something to consider.
Many people seem to see dieting as like a bus trip. The minute they get to target, they're going to jump off going "whoop whoop" and feeling very pleased with themselves. The next thing you know, they'll be back here crying into their double chins that they've put the weight back on....... You read the same stories every day on this forum.
If your "normal" way of eating and drinking got you into this fat pickle in the first place, then you have to get your head into the mindset that you're NEVER going to be able to return to you old ways ever again.
You have to make changes NOW that you will live with for the rest of your life if you want to stay healthy.
Going through life, you can't get into a state every time you're invited to a BBQ, a birthday party, a wedding or christening, a night out with the girls.........
You have to behave like ex-smokers. There are certain things that YOU JUST DON'T DO ANY MORE. Not because you're depriving yourself or someone else tells you that you can't. BUT because you have really changed and YOU don't want to eat this or drink that to excess.
This is what I meant when I encouraged Jezzi to enjoy the BBQ. The odd chicken leg is NOT going to ruin any diet. She already said that she wasn't drinking and I bet there are many more calories ingested through alcohol at your average BBQ than food!
You have to get food into perspective. We're all here to lose weight. But, it's got to be sustainable. It's like a dog. It's for life!

Its weird the things I don't miss. I don't miss cheddar cheese, I don't really miss chocolate that much, I definitely don't miss crisps or biscuits. The thing that would tempt me most is a slice of cake to be honest and thankfully, Korean cake sucks. I am avoiding fizzy drinks like the plague.

The only thing I can't give up is Peach Ice Tea- but I still have it once a week. At 135 cals, I can usually work it in every now and then.

Patchninja you were talking to another poster else not me. my problem was not specifically the BBQ I was hosting, but more that I was using my bad mood as an excuse to binge, so my problem was different to that of the other poster that you replied to. And I did drink alcohol as planned, but in moderation.

Think some confusion as we all seem to be having bbqs at the moment.

Forgive me. It was Bonnieboobear.
It doesn't really matter, though. IMHO the principle stays the same.

Ok, I need a kick up the ass.. I had a great day yesterday.... until evening hit and I got weekenditis.... Far too much nibbling...... damn.
Im ready for a whooping.
Anyone?

was the nibbling alcohol induced? or just for the sake of it? if alcohol induced then you need to cut back on the booze until you can control booze induced binging if not, you need to ask yourself 'do i really want to lose weight?' if you do then you have to commit to it, theres no point being good all day then stuffing your face on a night, drink nas juice or go to bed early. do it or dont.....its only yourself your letting down at the end of the day. now move on from it, learn from it and try to learn some other techniques to deal with the munchies. my favourites are telling myself i simply cant have it, its not an option, drinking nas juice and going for a walk

Good advice all. Yesterday I declared July to be an alcohol free month for me. I did it for Lent and have realised how I don't need it. We are slaves to marketing and a society that revolves around alcohol consumption. Im taking a stand and my body will thank me for it.

I like that idea - I think I might give it a go too!!

I know i shudnt ov ate it all but the meal was planned and ive not ate no carbs in 3 days in preparation hoping this has helped

Eeek tough lovers help me out here!

I need a good preventative butt-kicking ahead of the weekend. It has the makings of a diet disaster- I have a massive family bbq to contend with on Saturday. Great you might think - meat and salad, but my mother lays out the biggest ever spread - creamy potato salad, creamy pasta salad, couscous salad, olives and crisps out all day to nibble on and millions of puddings, not to mention the temptation to get plastered to deal with all of my realtives.

Have already decided I am driving, so that is the alcohol syns dealt with. But I know from last year that just having the odd crisp or peanut here intermittantly all day mounts up and is really demoralising. I think I will have to adopt an 'all or nothing' approach and have just the one plateful of food and diet coke for the rest of the day. Might bring a fruit salad as my contribution and munch that for dessert. But it is so hard to stay sober when everyone around you is having a great time from about 1pm right through the night - and it is people I hardly ever see as well, so would have been nice to have a good knees up. Oh well :-(

Yay. just wanted to gloat- what a weekend, chinese takeaway on Friday night, all day bbq on saturday, out with friend for breakfast on sunday and then work summer bbq on sunday afternoon! And I smashed it - have eaten less, if not the same, that I would have done if I had stayed at home. Simple veggie stir fry and rice for the chinese, plain salads and grilled chicken for the bbq (no booze and very proud that i avoided the puds and had strawberries and a muller light instead), poached eggs, lean bacon, mushrooms and one slice of toast for brekkie out and only salads at the bbq (one beer but counted it on SW tracker). Now tucking into a massive plate of SW free veggie curry. Go me!

Just proves that you can socialise and be around food if you put your mind to it - but thanks for the pre-motivation all, your comments were ringing around in my head as I stood at the pudding table! Have a good week everyone.

You've got 12lbs to target and you're doing this? Sounds to me like you are getting a bit complacent, if I am honest.

Its good that you are doing some exercise but I'd be careful about how often these 'treats' crop up. Just look at your signature- you have achieved so much. Don't jepordise it now.

great post, well done Sal

booze is IMO the single biggest obstacle to weight loss. Doh it's hard, but you are the boss of you and make the right choices every time you are confronted with the booze dilemma and you will be 100% vindicated - you body will thank you for it

Ok Rod,

Am reporting in for some tough love. Have hit a major slump....and its the food is the problem, not the exercise. Am in training for a half marathon...and have a good variety of exercise on the go.

I have lost a fair whack...but the last month has been a stay the same fest. And I ve put up a pound and a half the last week. Im here for a good stern talking to, as when Im on it, im a machine! But i have started to reward myself with food again...which is the real issue.

Am in it for the long haul, and will be at goal by my bday this year (dec). Have 2 stone to go. I like this thread, as this is what I need now.

Awaiting tough love....and a kick

Thanks

Guessing someone was up on The Hoe for Armed Forces Day! (I'm from Plymouth :D) Looking great!

Well my halo slipped slightly last night, well, it did and didn't. I was under my weekly calorie goal last night and was fancying chocolate so I used my remaining allowance. I was over the daily amount but on the whole still in control. Felt very very naughty though ;) but I enjoyed it and am back to full throttle restraint today :D

Nice to see you back rod... Hope you had a good time :D now get back on it your August mini challenge is looming!!

As they say...you're not a labrador, so don't reward yourself with food!

It is the last 2stone which really make the difference between 'not overweight' and 'actually slim'. Having come this far you definitely deserve to feel proper slim and slinky.
