Charleybarley tries again - Jan 2013

2nd May

Well today was another 100% day - yippee for me thats 3 days on the run, I know it's not that big o a deal, but I am usually sneaking things in my gob and not counting them. I haven't done that, it's strange but I don't feel the need to ruin my good work. I totally know why this is - it's because of this forum. I get so much out of this site, the more i get onto the site, the better behaved I am.

Tomorrow I am going to be going to the Oxo Tower for my mums 65th birthday, my Sis and I are treating mum. It's going to be foodie, boozy and expensive. I know I am going to be bad but I want to just be bad for the one day and that's it. Unfortunately we have Frankie and Bennys on Friday with the family so i am going to drive so a not to drink and I will only have a main meal, I am thinking bacon steaks and jack pot wit salad.

So for today:

B - 3 BGTY sausages (1.5)

L - Chicken Salad and pitta (HEB) and salad cream (2)

Snacks - melon; yog (1); apple; orange

D - 4 meat Spag Carbonara - bacon, proscuitto, chicken & chorizo (2.5) (HEA) with salad and chilli sauce (2)

SYNS 8.5

This was a huge portion I did too much spaghetti but I ate the lot, bit naughty but I enjoyed it oh so much!

Hi Charley - Just stopping by for a visit and some support. Have a great day at the OXO tower with your family - enjoy it, then move on and do well the next day. I think enjoying the celebrations etc are important too as long as we get back into it.

Like you I've fallen off the wagon (rather spectacularly in my case) but I'm back to do better this time.

Have a great day tomorrow x

Hi Red

Thanks for stopping by - I wholeheartedly agree with you about celebrations and also eating out. What I need to get my head around is just be bad for one day then get back on it, in fact one meal - if you are going out enjoy and then get back on it for the next meal. Sadly once I get a taste for the naughties that's it, I can't stop - I am learning though. Do you have a food diary? I mainly use my iPhone so I don't see diary links.

Have a good day hun! Xx

Hey charley

Hows it going? U keeping well? Well i lost 3.5 so happy with that but out tonight n sunday so its going to b a real test loads of alochol will b consumed lol

Well the oxo was lovely - although I have to be honest and say for the amount of money we spent, I didn't think the food was that special. We all had Cornish crab to start, it came up as a tiny whole crab that was breadcrumbed and deep fried, there wasn't much meat on it, it was served with a salsa and watermelon(!) I don't do savoury/fruit combo (yucko) so I ate them separately. Then mum and I had lamb, which was served on a bed of lentils and veg. The lamb was lovely, it wasn't a very big portion and it seemed all within the realms of SW, oh except for the rosemary infused chips which for me were the highlight of the entire meal. My sister had chicken which was lovely. Then for desserts I had cinnamon rice pudding which came with two little biscuits. I had two spoonfuls of rice and wasn't keen and gave the rest to my Sis, and I ate the biccies which were delightful. Overall the food was ok but the views and the company made the day perfect. Here are a few piccies of our day:

All in all a lovely day with the Smith ladies.

Back on it today.

4th May

I had the day off work today - yippee - I would love not to have to bloody work, I was up at 6:45am and I polished, cleaned, washed&dried my entire laundry basket and spent several happy hours in the kitchen. Today is the day of my cooking my French dish (thread in recipe section) I also knocked up another delish batch of egyptian lentil curry for the freezer. I havent posted the fruits of my French labour yet as I have been so busy today and am now running late as I have to pick mum and dad up for her second birthday meal involving the rest of my family - Frankie & Bennys!!! Oh god, will I succumb to the mushroom Alfredo starter? I hope not. So food today:

B- 3 BGTY sausages (1.5) plus half tbsp BBQ sauce (.5)

L - Toulouse cassoulet avec poule (3 syns plus one HEB with salad (1) for salad cream. This dish was sublime, I was quite a bit of work, but delish. Dessert was creme brûlée (1 plus part HEA). This was very nice, but not like the full fat version, I will defo do it again!

D ?????

Syns so far - 7. I will go over my allowance as I am having a glass of wine and also whatever I have there will be syns in it so I will try and keep it low.

Xxxx

Oh dear - epic fail last night at F&Bs I started with BBQ Chicken wings which were delicious and plumb and juicy and flavoursome. I don't actually feel too guilty about those because they were just so nice - not a good attitude really is it? For mains, well yes I feel guilty about this, I had black and blue burger and chips, pretty much one of the highest synned things on the menu - why can't I make good choices when I go out?

So the naughtiness has spilled over to today too, I struggle to stay on track so much Friday nights and Saturdays. Mick and I went to watch the avengers this morning and I had a big salted popcorn, we came home and had 2 White rolls with tuna Mayo and salad - asda delivered White seeded rolls instead of wholemeal, so instead of complaining, I have kept them and we are eating them! There is no hope really is there? Oh and I had cheese and onion mccoys crisps too. EPIC FAIL. Tomorrow is a fresh new day, I am going to go for a long walk to clear my head and I am going to get back in the game.

I therefore have given myself a challenge - in 10 weeks time I am going to Amsterdam for my birthday - I want to lose 1 stone by then. 14lbs in ten weeks is doable isn't it? I am going to try it. I will have to go to the gym I think, I might as well, I pay for it every bloody month an never go! SW alone doesn't get my weight off, I need to exercise. Right, Sunday is a new day and a new start!

Xxx

Thanks Ang, that's sweet of you. New day and new hope. I am going to try to get back on track.

How are you doing my love? Have you started a diary yet?

Xxx

Oh it's really simples Ang:

Cooked chicken - I used leftovers from Sunday.
Cooked rice.
Chopped garlic and chilli and ginger (I only had powder but fresh is best) and Chinese five spice, all of this was to my taste, I rarely measured herbs and spices.
A bag of stir fry
Soy sauce
1/2 eggs (I only used one as I had two for brekkie and thought 4 eggs in one day would be too much for the old tum tum to take!

Fry off the cooked rice, ginger garlic chilli and five spice for a few mins until the aromas hit and are well abs truly mixed, add the chicken which I chopped into little pieces (71g) doesnt go very far does it?!? Defo do this on EE day as you can add more chicken. Then add the stir fry mix, a mix that up then shake as much soy sauce in as you wish - then one this is all cooked and ready make a hole in the centre of the pan or wok and break an egg or two. Let it settle for 10/20 seconds and then scramble it around the rest of the dish - et voila - at this point I added some chilli sauce but 1 tbsp didn't go far and I couldn't really taste it. It was nice and it was a massive portion which took ages to eat (I lurve meals like that!) but it felt so saintly because of all the veg. Try it Ang, it really is easy. I have a thread going on the recipe section called foods of the world .. Where we are trying out different foods of a specific country, May is France and I am cooking up a real treat on Friday to post. Come and join, there arent many of us, come and support us. Xx
Charley - hope you don't mind but I have copied this recipe and added to my diary as one to try!

Beautiful pictures - aren't you all alike! I think thats the problem with cooking from scratch you are already used to delicious food - and I guess you are paying for the privilege of eating at the Oxo tower and the breathtaking view - I have only been once when it first opened - the views put me off my food but I have a bit of a problem with heights lol!

Your french cuisine looks amazing - you stole my dessert lol!

We are erasing all of last week it was a celebration week and doesn't count, I have challenged you to lose 21lbs by your Amsterdam trip - are you brave enough to accept?

What you got planned for today? and what's on your menu?

U can do it i have every faith in u!!

Im a wee bit jealous of ur munch tho lol
Me too and I am only jealous of the burger, sounds divine!

Charley - hope you don't mind but I have copied this recipe and added to my diary as one to try!

Not at all lovey, go for it. I wasnt overly impressed, I like saucy food rather than dry, but I dont think I added nearly enough soy, I always feel like soy has a lot of sodium in it and I would rather save my salt to add to my food rather than cook with it - for some reason I dont like adding too much salt to my cooking as I dont like the taste, yet I always add salt one its cook - I am a salty freak!

Thanks, they are nice pictures arent they? And I think you are right, I love my own cooking - I was disappointed with what they served, I dont know what I was expecting but for over £210 which was 3 starters, 3 mains and 2 desserts plus a bottle of wine, you expect something special - I am not a snob or anything or something who thinks they can do better, because I really enjoy takeaway food, a good chinese or indian, I just thought that for that price, it would have been a little nicer than my own cooking!

You are right though, you are paying for the breathtaking view and also the service was brilliant. Although its probably not the best place to go for someone with an issue with heights Donna! Stick to ground level joints in future!

Oh whats the Egyptian lentil curry recipe like? that one has slipped under my radar!
Your french cuisine looks amazing - you stole my dessert lol!

Oh the Egyptian Curry is really lovely and so easy - its the sort of curry you have with a pitta or you could dip your veg in it, or have it on some rice. Its not a hot curry at all, its really sweet and almost buttery tasting. Here's the recipe:

- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, crushed
- 1 inch ginger, grated
- 1 medium/large carrot, coarsely grated
- 2 tsp ground cumin
- 2 tsp turmeric
- 2 tsp paprika
- 75g red split lentils
- 500ml chicken stock

Method:

- Preheat oven to 180C

- Sweat onion and a pinch of salt in Fry Light for a few min
- Add garlic, ginger and carrot and cook gently for 2-3 min until softened
- Stir in cumin, turmeric and paprika for 1 min until aromatic
- Add lentils and stock and simmer until cooked (about 20 min)

Its two smallish portions, but it is pretty filling - I dont have non stick pans so I do the first few stages in a non stick frying pan and then when it is time to add the lentils and stock I transfer it to a pan with a lid and I cook really slowly. I have since altered the recipe slightly to make more, I also think 2 garlic cloves is quite a lot, but its really good and you feel totally saintly afterwards.

We are erasing all of last week it was a celebration week and doesn't count, I have challenged you to lose 21lbs by your Amsterdam trip - are you brave enough to accept?

Donna - I hereby accept your challenge - 2lb a week is often really hard for me to lose but I did it this week and I can try and reach 2lb each week - I often regret setting myself challenges because I end up finding the pressure of getting there too much (such a baby aren't I?!) but I am doing to turn that pressure into determination and this time I am not alone. We can do this together Donna.

I have to ask, do you feel secretly a wee bit pissed off that Paul gets bigger losses? I only ask because that would really bug me secretly! I know you must also be pleased that he is doing this with you and the fact that he needs to lose weight for his health, but its a bit annoying isn't it? I bet he can also afford to cheat a little and still lose weight. The thing is men's weight just drops off them when they diet. Mick and I went on a caribbean cruise in February and I put on 11lbs and Mick put on 4lbs! I was gutted. But then saying that I was like the proverbial kid in a sweet shop - at the buffet table I was taking little bits of everything, he was just eating what he usually eats but with added treats and lots of Magners! I was like the Tasmanian Devil at the buffet! I think if Mick was to just exercise a bit, his weight would drop off even though his diet leaves a lot to be desired, he is the sort of person who will just lose weight by making the tiniest changes. Its not the same for me.

6th May

So today I am turning over a new leaf - 21lb challenge, I hope I haven't bitten off more than I can chew (pardon the pun):

B - 2 egg omelette, 3 rashers of bacon and LF Cheese (HEA) - blob of brown sauce (1)

L - Leftover cassoulet with salad (HEB) (3). Salad cream (1)

Snack: apple, melon, homemade hummous and carrot.

D - Chicken Roast dinner - chicken (obv!), giant pig in blanket, mashed potatoes, carrots, cauli, broc, sweetcorn, gravy - I love gravy so I am going to donate the remainder of my syns to my roast dinner as I will put a little butter in the mash too. NO CHICKEN SKIN. I really struggle to remove the chicken skin, especially as I marinate the chicken with caribbean spices before I cook it, but hey ho I will spice up the gravy and use that!

HAPPY EATING Y'ALL!

7th May update:

Ok I had some skin on my chicken leg (7 syns?) and I had five stuffing balls(5). ( .5) for the pig (nothing for the blanket!) and maybe ( 2) for the gravy. So my brand new day ended with using

19.5 Syns - ****! I had better stay low key on syns today.

Charley - whatever the cost - the memories are priceless!

Thanks for Lentil recipe - I'm still not convinced!

Listen 11lbs is nothing - my friend went on honeymoon for 3 weeks and came back 3 stole heavier - can you imagine what she must have put away - it was all inclusive and here is how her day panned out:

7am - Full Monte Fried Breakfast
10 - Danish Pastries
12 - Banana
13 - Lunch - all 4 courses and sometimes second/third helpings
15 - Afternoon Tea
17 - Toasted Panini on way back from swimming pool
Ice creams, full fat coke, crisps etc throughout day
19:00 - Dinner - 5 courses and second/thirds if she could fit in
22:00 Cheeseburger and chips before heading to nightclub
22:30 onwards cocktails, alcohol
02:00 Pizza on way home washed down with more coke

She was so big by her second week they had to buy her new clothes!

Well done Charley on the walk! We managed 2hrs around Thorndon Nature Reserve - I wasn't breathless or anything - amazing how much difference shifting just 10lbs makes

:nono: I curled the ends of my hair for that photo and everything hmmpf. :D

Have you got any plans for today Charle? its lovely blue skies and sunny in basildon - how about Grays?

3 Stone???? That is amazing! Literally amazing, I bow down to her greatness!!!

I wasn't convinced about the curry, but trust me it is really nice, well I thought so anyway, I guess it's all about taste isn't it. It is really tasty though - I am having some for lunch today with pitta breads I will post a pic, although it's nothing to look at, in fact it does look pretty unappetising!!!

Sorry to disappoint I am ashamed to say since you typed your lovely reply, I added to my saintly post of yesterday to say "my name is Charlotte Smith and I eat chicken skin" i am sorry I couldn't help it. I have added it up (although I would have a clue how to syn it, I didn't exactly weigh the skin!) and I will not have Manu syns today - I promise. I am on a green day and I have my food all planned today.
