Chelsea Lou - The Ventura adventure, not a sinking ship!

@Chels -- lol. That's what appealed to be about picking her: she had that Sl%t factor. (I was always such a goody two shoes.)

@KC -- I prefer the 1950s, too. We used to have 1950s style sock hops when I was in school in the 1970s. Good fun, they were.
And, my DD has a Halloween Costume from Grease! I like the 1940s glamour, too.
It seems that things got messy and slovenly in the 1960s and 1970s... and just plain silly in the 1980s (think of the hairstyles in Working Girl and the ridiculous shoulder pads of Dynasty).

I was not a huge Punk fan. I did love Cyndi Lauper, Adam Ant and Culture Club, though.

@Chels -- Cross posted. Great Minds (or is it warped minds) think a like.

My mother (who married in 1958) told me that at her American High School in Seattle, Washington -- they had to pass a rule limiting the number of crinoline petticoats you could have under your skirt to three!!! This was because people could not get through the hallways! LOL She always wore pencil skirts and seamed stockings. People thought she was a model. She would read the fashion mags and then make her own clothes based on the Parisian designs.

The Sl*t Factor............would make a good TV programme ha ha.

I had big hair in the 80s and thought I looked great...poor deluded fool :D Adam Ant used to do it for me Mel. Such a good looking man and he made make-up look masculine somehow.

Chels, you knew Jimmy Pursey! Aww!!! I loved Sham 69, short-lived though they were. Our local music festival caters for ageing punks and Ska-fans, though, and have seen Buzzcocks, The Dickies (Banana Splits theme tune), Stranglers, Ramones & many more there, as well as Selecter, Bad Manners, Beat & various groups made up of remnants of Specials. The Ska band members always look awesome & the punk ones look raddled and wrecked, a lifestyle choice I suspect!

I am a major vintage fan, love 40s & 50s, sigh. I always thought I was born in wrong time and was what I'd call an 'art school punk', always lots of vintage and crimped hair and ribbons worn with a donkey jacket rather than a safety pin through the nose. I did have a kettle for a handbag though!

Mods... when i went to art college, one of my best pals was a mod - the early 80s revival. So I did a lot of dancing to Tamla and riding around Liverpool on the back of scooters, great memories... there was a big scene there then. We LOVED Quadrophenia and Phil Daniels... my kids love it now.

Great tangent to have sloped off on... past 12 now and time for my 2nd shake, woo hoo!

@KC -- I have a NY license plate (aka car tag) handbag! LOL

OMG so glad I came back on here..... I used to love David Cassidy, had a bigger than life size piccie of him on my bedroom wall, alongside David Bowie, there are not many heros I haven't seen in concert but he is one of them, so hope he will do one last tour. Must admit Queen were also my absolute faves, still are but not the new Queen band, I even have their lion and pheonix logo tattooed on my arm..... but punk I also loved, loved Sid Vicious, and Sham 69 who were actually touring in a pub local to me just over a year ago but I never got to see them. Went to see Madness just over a year ago (had seen them 2 years previous to that too) but we were right at the front on the rail, absolutely awesome, I shook their hands, then we went to see the Specials about a month before that, again front row on the rail, and I got the drummers drumstick..... and shook their hands too, cannot believe how little Terry Hall has changed...... Now love The Killers, have seen them 4 times, once was only 5 rows from them, in Germany, have some awesome photos, and have been to see Rod Stewart, U2 (again front row on rail), Spandau Ballet, Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, and probably others I cannot remember in the last 18 months..... think I am just a 40 odd year old groupie!!!! ha ha

Yum... Jon Bon Jovi. I wonder where I put my Mrs Bon Jovi t-shirt.

I was crushed when I found out George Michaels was gay. I had dreams about running my fingers through his hair.

Yeah, Jimmy used to go to The Walton Hop in Walton on Thames. He was always such a good dancer, so much natural rhythm and a great character.

Lol, what are you like??? Kettle for a handbag. Genius.

Quadrophenia........loved it. My elder Sis was a rocker, motorbike mad and thought we were all soft and pathetic with our scooters. They'd got for their 'ton-ups' on a Sunday afternoon and we'd whizz along at 30 miles per hour on the GTXs lol. xx

Lol, it made the words to "Careless Whisper" seem rather different Mel. All that carry-on in the Gents. I've not been able to listen to any of his stuff since that episode. Put me right off!!!!!!

Bon Jovi, now there's a pretty boy, once he got rid of all the hair. Mmmmnnn.

Linda, I can't see anything wrong with being a 40+ groupie, I think it should be compulsory :D:D

Chels, you have the 'hot' thread today, with all this heart throb talk! Lots of fun.

xxx

Hee hee, seems like I am a bit hot today ;) I find it amazing how we get onto subjects like this one......not exactly relevant to weight loss but brilliant all the same. I could talk about the "good old days" all day.

Corona fizzy drinks and you got a few pence when you took the empty bottle back. Sing Something Simple on the radio on a Sunday pre-Radio 1. Do you remember trying to listen to Radio Caroline/Luxembourg on your little transistor and a fave song would come on, only to disappear for absolutely ages and by the time the signal came back, you heard it fading out. In those days songs were only a couple of minutes long. So maddening.

Mary Quant fashions, Biba make-up. Flower power. Scott Mackenzie.....wearing flowers in our hair. Oh jeez, I've really started now........man :D:D

Yep to Corona... and Tizer, delivered on a lorry. The rag & bone man, who had a horse & cart. Gypsies exchanging 'magic' colouring books for bags of old clothes, or selling lucky heather. Yep to Radio Luxembourg, but not Caroline - maybe I was just a bit too young & it had 'sunk' by then? Have you seen the fab film 'The Boat That Rocked'? You would love it Chels!

No to Mary Quant fashion but yes to the make-up, Biba had closed though when I was a teen. How weird to see it back again now in a big department store (forget which one!). My OH had a hippy phase, but i never did... he's 5 years older than me. I do love the Scott Mackenzie song though!

60s memories: Those big hairdryers they had in hair salons and the smell of hairspray & beehives; white plastic boots; mini skirts; my first record, Beatles Yellow Submarine which my mum bought for me; Twinkle comic & Bunty; Lucky Bags; sweety cigarettes; not having a phone or a colour TV; going everywhere on the bus; playing out till nightfall. Happy days!

So many really happy memories. Thanks Katy - loved the white boots and minis. My sister used to have a beehive and used lacquer to hold it into position. Jeez, how she ever managed to comb it out was beyond me. Panstick makeup and peel off eyeliner. White lipstick that made your teeth look yellow ha ha ha.

They had to be the best of times. All that free love ;)

I remember getting some kind of drink delivered to our house each week.... and Radio Luxembourg, I rung up and won a competition on there and they sent me tons of bits, like belts, records etc. And I remember the Twinkle comic and Bunty..... and sweet cigarettes.... I remember getting our first colour TV and Magpie was on, and the bus used to cost us 5p anywhere as I lived closer to London then and all the red buses were 5p if you were under 16.

I remember our first colour TV. There was a slot meter on the front where we had to put our 50ps into and the bugger always ran out just as you got to the crucial bit in a film and it would be a nightmare trying to find another to put in. It used to have a loud tick as well, like waiting for a bomb to go off. I was so embarrassed when friends/boyfriends came round  lol

Day 37 almost done!!

Nearly another day done, which I am so pleased about after Friday/Saturday. Feeling calm and in a good place.

Me girlie is with me tonight and tomorrow night and she is coming to see Mandy with me when I WI tomorrow night. She is getting herself sorted and I did try to explain how staying away from minis when struggling is not a good thing to do. It was coming on here and admitting I'd had problems that turned it all around for me a lot quicker than if I'd stayed away. Those two bad days would have turned into a week or more without you guys.

I've had 2 shakes and a piece of chicken with a little broccoli and cauliflower. One more shake to go. Feels good to be back in the groove.

Hope you all have had a good day today and speak soon.

xxxx

Huh! I go to work for a day and you lot have a party!
It was Marc Bolan for me and a bit later.......Meatloaf! Oh, yes!
Remember those boots in black or white which were really just shoes with soft plastic pull up bits to your knees and platform shoes? I floated around in pretty flowery things, very wide jeans that had to cover our platforms, smocks and really fitted cheesecloth stripy shirts with hundreds of buttons.
Then near to London for college - Art. Biba was there, wore dark brown eyeshadow, pale lips. Vidal Sassoon's students did a haircut (the Wedge?) for 50p! Plays in weird theatre's, The Orange Tree, a pub with a theatre upstairs, meeting Alan Ackbourne afterwards in the pub - (who?!) - I was so young!
The Round House opened in a disused engine turning shed and the Exhibitions! The RA every summer, I was bowled over by the Craftsmen's Potter's shop in Marshall street and Cranks restaurant next door. To Dartington to stay in tents for a potter's camp where I met all the well known skilled potters I so admired and they were helpful and kind.

Driving without a licence......

And yes - Radio Luxembourg 208 medium wave with the sound coming and going...The Old Grey Whistle Test and John Peel's monotone voice late at night......ramble, ramble!!

Great to see you back on the wagon Chels, well done girl! xx

OOhhh, more more! - Trampas, but better still my first real genuine love - James Drury in The Virginian, I've come over all weepy!

Oh, Trampas & the Virginian!!! I had forgotten them!
