Experiments in Tofu...

Hello,

I'm back - kind of.

Been experimenting with TOFU, and as the Mori-Nu Silken available here is 3% fat I was wondering about nutrition, calories etc... I've been making these 'cream' desserts (mmmhhhhh.....) and though they tasted just TOO RICH - well here is the result: comparing one of my baked custards (=1/2 egg and enough milk to make 100ml, plus splenda) and a Tofu cream (=75gr silken tofu, 1 TB FromFrais and splenda) the result is a TIE nutritionally BUT the Tofu has ZERO cholesterol! Result I'd say. Recipe coming up later!

[sorry bad copy and paste job going on here!]

Good news for me as I need to make up a little bit of Easter over-indulgences! 'Main' food generally was healthy and 'normal', but I did eat chocolate eggs, and quite a few, over 3 days, and also some cake etc on a regular basis. No bingeing but not exactly restrained either!

Thanks for the tofu creams idea, Anja. I don't think I have cholesterol issues (nobody has ever asked me to check) but it means we can have a custard alternative for PP days without egg yolks, so another Thursday bonus! Am off to search for silken tofu tomorrow.

300 gr up from 1st April. I know it's yet another gain since starting stab BUT I've not had a single weekend without festivities this month and often during the week too, so I'll consider that a success (of sorts) especially as I didn't weigh in after PP day. That was bad planning on my part, so generally I'll stick to the first Friday of the month for future weigh-ins.

However (as after Christmas), I'm getting a bit fed up with the 'richness' and am also nearly a kilo up, so am planning more of a conso week or two (especially as there's another food-heavy weekend next weekend).

I have another busy week, so I'll try and pop in now and again and be back properly next Monday.

Hope everyone is as lucky with the weather as we have been and have a great bank holiday.:D

Hello you lovely stabilisers with your tiny "gains" which really only equate to (as Vicky would say) "a good *oo"!

I never feel that richness is a problem for me. I admit that I still love all the "bad foods" I used to eat before.

Ha yes the current weight (0.5kg over target) in my sig is not the weight I saw on the scales last Friday after Thu PP, that was a whole kg on top of that. I then did a normal conso Friday and Sat am the weight had dropped to something more 'reasonable'...

Richness - not a problem here either. As seen in my recent choc egg addiction... Yesterday I had some full-fat Onken coconut yoghurt (a gala dessert in my book) as it had been calling out to me for months, but it's not something I'll be having again. Nice, but now that I know what it's like I can live without it!

Anyway - back to 'normal' and the recent main meals were (from memory)

Fri: Beef burgers & bun & salad, can't really reconstruct any of the remainder. Oatbran muffins.

Sat:
B: Muesli (including linseed and oatbran)
L: (Picnic) Smoked Salmon, beefburger, watercress and tomato salad.
S: pear
D: Baked trout (with wine) + glass of wine, baked potato with a sprinkling of cheese. Tofu lemon cream.

Sun:
B: Oatbran & linseed porridge + quark& kiwi
S: Oatbran biscuits
L: WM roll with hummus, ham and lettuce, watercress salad with egg
S: Satsuma
D: Moroccan chicken & couscous (+coconut yoghurt)
ONE proper chocolate biscuit, but no crispie cakes as made by DD2 - I may have licked the spoon once;)...

Mon:
B: linseed pancake & rhubarb yoghurt (home made)
S: oatbran biscuits
L: Lettuce salad with chicken and egg, Bread with cheese. Baked custard
S: 2 plums
D:Chilli (with beans), cucumber salad. Oatbran in yoghurt with fresh mango

I am back to not having dried fruit for now, and 1 or 2 fruit portions a day. Doing sort-of conso, with no weekday extras... Today I turned down a glass of nice Belgian beer...

I have a month to get myself 'into shape' for our holiday in Spain :D:D and while it's not registering much on the scales my tummy is more pronounced at the moment, just above the belt though

You're a strong, strong woman, Anja. Willpower of steel!;)

You flatter me! And you know it's not exactly true either ;)

I was not actually at home when DH drank it, but we had discussed it - otherwise I would have had a sip at least! I am planning to have some next weekend before it's all gone (yes my parents were here and imported some for us).

And I just turned down a free choccie offered in Hotel Chocolat (yes I was buying something else - a 70% off Easter treat as a belated gift for a friend). The salesperson offering made a strange face when I said 'no thank you':D:D as she didn't even get to launch into the description of what delights she was trying to sell ;)

Instead I went to the market an bought loads of Rhubarb, Asparagus and Brocolli :)

And you even turned down chocolate!;)

I bet you'll enjoy that beer even more when you eventually get to drink it, remembering how good you were in resisting it initially. :D

Which beer is it, just out of interest? I particularly love the lambic and wheat beers. One of my absolute favourites of all time is De Halve Maan wheat beer, but I think it's only available from their brewery in Bruges. I'd dearly love to be able to buy it over here. Very powerful kick, but what an amazing taste. :)

Well, I do like soft and fruity ones like Kriek & Lambic - our favourite used to be Liefmans Kriek until they got taken over / stopped making it. You can now get one that has very similar packaging but tastes not half as good.... I blame Interbrew :(

When I Brussels with a chance to go out I'd seek out Lambic from La Becasse (wow I see they have a web site OF COURSE: A LA BECASSE information). Imagine me and my best friend at those scrubbed tables, catching up whenever we met up while at home from Uni 20+ years ago! (not english style of pub drinking though, we were able to get home in one piece!!)

Now we just get stuff easily available from the Supermarket (Carrefour) my parents shop in - we have tasted a lot of horrid sweetened and artificial stuff over time - every now and them my mum experiments with a different brand :eek: - if I see another beer label with 'edulcorant' I'm going to scream... But now we've settled on Lindemans and this time they brought us Kriek and Faro as ordered.

I also like some of the Trappist beers can't recall specific names now though.

Ok, must plan my weekly food shop now!

So that's what happened to it! I was so disappointed last time I had some of that new one which looks similar that I've never bought any since. Such a shame. The Liefmans was my favourite also.

My husband's favourite was always Chimay when we lived in France. He also loved Pelforth Brune. How wonderful it was to be able to buy all of these fantastic Belgian and French beers at reasonable prices in the supermarkets over there. We both miss that a lot.

Must pop over there some day, when/if ever Sterling is a little stronger against the Euro, and stock up. We're finally running out of our fruit liqueurs, too - for making Kir Royales.

New Easter album posted up - friends and contacts only so send me your friend requests and I'll be happy to oblige!

Just logged on in time! Photos are great, Anja - you are so slim!

Cake is wonderful, I bet your kids were delighted with it.

DD - Can recommend chestnut for your kirs - I was a bit dubious but it was lovely and a nice change from blackcurrant/strawberry.

Oooh, sounds interesting - must try that!

Anja - I've put in my friend application as I'd love to see your new photos, please. :)

That cake is adorable.

You're looking great too, fab legs in shorts.

Hee hee the trick is to wear shorts that are really two sizes too big to make your legs look slim :D:D And yes, I do own some new shorts now as well

I find it just so nice to get a bit of air to your legs now!!

Fab pics, Anja! I love the cake - I'd have to eat the nose first. ;-)

And wow, shorts! You look great in them, too! I've never looked good in shorts. Wonder whether they'd look any better with my new body shape? I always hated the way they'd ride up when I walked.

That cake is amazing - please tell me you didn't make it!!

I can only echo what the others have said re how slim you are looking and how great the shorts look.

Thanks for the compliments - and yes the cake is/WAS home made **takes a bow** As you can see it's quite small so my family polished it off in one sitting :D and I had a little piece too.

It's just a 3D mould - you can get all sorts of Easter Shapes. Fill with a simple 1-egg sponge and impressive cake pops out :D
