Well today definitely didnt go the way it was supposed to go, but waheeeyyyyyyyyy, a brilliant outcome.
We went to the croft rescue kennels today, where I had my heart set on Shylo the Boxer dog. We took my neighbour and 'Spike' the neighbours Shihtzu, as she has free run of both our gardens, and is part of our family - 2 homes, and he is spoilt to bits. But anyway, since he is so close to us, we thought it important to let him come along to make sure he could get on with the new addition.
Well we went to the Croft kennels, and I met Shylo, who had much longer legs than expected, but he was gorgeous. We got talking to the warden, and he informed us that Shylo had a wild nature, and had actually bitten one of the handlers one day as he was being walked. We decided that Shylo wasnt for us then, as I wouldn't have the confidence in dealing with him, knowing he had bitten. Nothing else was suitable for us in those kennels.
We then went to the Dog Trust Kennels in Bridgend, and there were two dogs there we liked, but one had already been more or less adopted, and the other (Sienna)could only be re-homed in a home that had another dog, as he wouldn't settle without another dog, so when we explained that Spike was always at ours, weather permitting, she said that he needed a dog that actually lived there.
She then suggested that we take a look at 'Maisey' who we hadnt seen as we were walking around the kennels, as she was in with the vet. Maisey is a 4 year old Shihtzu, who has been kept only for breeding. When she came in, she was all matted and had ear infections. Since then she has had a drastic haircut to get rid of all the matting. She said that Maisey was very shy and timid until she got to know you, and when she got to know you, she would stand on her back paws and wave at you with both her front paws - awwww, bless. Well she brought her out and she was like a little skinned rat, I held her on my lap as she loves cuddles and she was shaking for about ten minutes. She settled a little once we had all got to talk to her and give her some love.
We have a home visit on Monday now, and Maisey is with the vet now to be Speyed and have her ear infection sorted out, so hopefully within the next week or so, she should be with us, and she will be a much loved addition to our family.
Good news too, Spike had no objections to Maisey, but Maisey gave Spike a little growl - I am sure they will get on brilliantly.
