I pwomiss I will miss!!!! Last night's choccy treat was a controlled one!! I had it because I REALLY fancied it but because of my new bff (food diary) I knew that I could afford it and I had it!! Having a life but being in control- the perfect balance!!!!X OK hun have fun at the apartment and speak early in the week!!X

So chappesses, I didn't TOTALLY manage to steer clear of the Easter Bunny in work on my nights this weekend...BUT I do feel pleased with myself for exercising some moderation and control!! Had 8 syns worth of chocolate cornflake cake on Sat night and a very small piece of choccy cake with 2 mini-eggs last night. Could have been looooaaads worse as the nurses station was rife with the stuff!!! So actually I feel like I've treated myself without going over the top! Tonight's WI will tell the truth!! I'll be very annoyed if I haven't lost as I've been good all week!!

Yipppeeeee! My food diary paid off and the Easter bunny was defeated! I lost 2.5lb tonight so very pleased with that! Also got SOTW in group although (shouldnt admit this) only 6 of us stayed!! Still the clear winner though-nowt wrong with a bit of healthy competition and it's good to keep the newbies on their toes!! Their fault for eating all those choccie eggs I say hehe!

The flipside to my success however was that I went to the chippy to celebrate and had ad hoc cod n chips then a creme egg and peanut M&Ms at home!! So I will prob fall flat on my face next week at the scales!! Tomorrow marks a new week!! All is not lost (hopefully) xxxx

Thanks hun and well done on the stone lost!! Looks like you're doing really great and this is just what you need right now!! I hope you're still feeling well and healthy on it (listen to me bangin on like a nagging mother hen lol!!) XXXXXXXX

All I can say is.....WHOOOPPSSS!!!! You may notice the absence of yesterday's food diary!!! This may have something to do with the fact that I ate and ate and ate a load of rubbish yesterday- for some reason I didn't want to eat normal healthy food and kept reaching for the naughty stuff!! Then Bonzo (my monthly visitor) came knocking last night which made me realise that maybe it was partly a hormonal thing (I'd been a bit grumpy and stroppy the last couple of days too!!) So from today it's 'all systems go' again!! I can't afford to be going up and down- it's not good for my karma!! I already have to be careful on Saturday night as we're holding a little shin-dig at our house for my M-I-L!! It's 30 years since she had her last drink- she's 71 now and in her 30s and until she was 41 she drank herself into the ground and ended up having treatment in Broadway Lodge- she was so ill we're very lucky to have her today healthy and full of life and she worked as a counsellor working with people with drug/alcohol addictions and has saved many lives herself. So she's a very special lady and she and about 10 of her croanies (mostly recovering alcoholics) are coming over to ours-I'm making a curry with all the trimmings- the plus side is that it will be a healthy one and there will be little alcohol consumed!! So looking forward to that but I have probably already done the damage yesterday to prohibit a loss!! Oh well!!X

Wow Hev your MIL is quite an inspiration
Ps did notice food was missing yesterday so looking forward to its return today x

More slapped wrists chica - but I know how you feel. Just try and minimise yesterday by being angelic for the rest of the week.

I have just not been able to get my head in gear for weeks. I write it all down . . . meal times go well, or at least they do when I'm at home but we have eaten out so much over the last 12 days. But my late night snacking head seems to want to raise itself at the mo.

Your MIL sounds like a special lady. Lets hope you have a great night on Saturday

Thanks hun!! I think that going out for meals puts you in automatic 'out of the zone' mode, even if you have made good choices, which then makes it hard to be totally on track for the rest of the day, and if you did make good choices during the day, sometimes you tell yourself you deserve a treat in the evening BECAUSE you made such good choices during the day!! It sounds like a strategy is needed to avoid the late night snacking!! It seems to be the most tempting time for most of us, as we tend to be busy doing things in the daytime and then when we relax we think of food and also look for something to do with our hands...and gobs lol!!

It's crazy how you (I mean 'one') can be sooooo on plan one minute, and feeling unbreakable, then suddenly one small trigger can set you off in a totally different direction!!!

Well I've had a lovely lie-in today after yesterday's long and tiresome shift so I'm off to make breakfast now!!! Porridge!! Food diary coming to a Heather's thread near you!!!X

Hey no beating yourself up, what's done is done xx

As for nagging lol I know it's with all the right reasons :) Paul has been checked by his doctor abd there very happy with progress and will monitor his diabetes level. Hoping that when we get back from Hols he'll be able to lower the tablets which will be fantastic.

Hope your porridge fills the gaps, that's what I had this morn albeit a small bowl ;)

Have a great day xxx

Thanks Claire!!

Great to hear you're both fighting fit and all good with Paul's diabetes! I'm sure the weight loss will be good for it in any case!! My friend Jo is on insulin and she's giving herself far less now that she's just lost 2 stone after having her baby in August! It's great when you hear such brilliant health stories! I used to take my health for granted - I didn't have a BP problem or any others that I was aware of (apart from a bit of a dodgy knee that played up when walking- that's non-existent now- the niggle not the knee lol!!) but I am quite sure that if I hadn't addressed my weight then further down the line I would have had a multitude of health problems- it's nice to know I'm doing my bit to prevent things as much as I can- now I just have to keep it up, increase my exercise and other than that leave my fate in the lap of the Gods!!X

So so true, I've been fairly healthy but how long would that last if I didn't address it.
I think Paul's big turnaround wasn't his diabetes but the ear problem and discovering it was more than likely from blocked artery. I nag him an awful lot about what he eats but I guess it had to be when he was ready - I'm just pleased he's doing something now.
For him limiting his food options and making it easier has been the trick. He can't "cheat" now as there's no room for it at all. We have our official break for Florida Hols then back on it to shift that excess then assess how much further we want to go. SW will be our maintenance though :) xx

Wed 11th April 2012. Green Day!

Late breakfast- had lie-in this morning!!-
28g porridge (HEXb1) with 100ml semi-skimmed milk (2/5 HEXa) with sliced banana and topped with 10g Whites Wild Fruit Crunch Toasted Oats (2 syns). A plum.

As my breakfast was more of a brunch I skipped lunch and went straight to tea!! Abandoned my grand idea of roast chicken, potatoes, parsnips, carrots, green beans and mashed swede and went for what I was going to have for lunch instead! Turns out Dai had been for a big lunch for a leaving do with his work colleagues which I'd forgotten about so I don't need to worry about him this evening as he said he's full!! Yaay!

Tea- Stirfry mixed veg pack (Sainsburys) with roasted veg couscous (Tesco- 3.5 syns). Nandos X-hot piri piri sauce (1 syn). An apple. A peanut deluxe Hifi bar (HEXb2).

Kept it very light today to try and claw back yesterday's faux pas!!!]

Total syns 6.5.

I really can see why people go for the vlcds because as you say you can't cheat- it's pretty much black and white!! If you give up drinking, drugs or smoking, you GIVE UP (not that I'm in any way underestimating the difficulty and power of those addictions!) but you can't 'give up' food!! Well, you can for a short time, but not long term! Which I suppose is why they were designed, so that people can get the results they need quickly without the confusion of what and how much they can eat which all gets very blurred when your resolve starts to weaken and you crave certain things! I'll be honest with you and say that the maintainability of weight after going back to proper food after such plans does concern me as I've come across quite a few people who have gone back to their old ways and put it back on! BUT...I do know that there are people who have maintained quite nicely if they go straight onto plans like SW and WW and never go back to their old ways! It definitely has to be a case of changing habits and the whole mindset about food and lifestyle!! Oooh tis very tricky isn't it this weight loss lark- there's no easy way to do it unfortunately and long term it's very much about perseverence, patience and sacrifice!!

On the subject of husbands, I'm worried sick about mine!! He has quite a few stone to lose but shows no interest whatsoever in addressing it!! I know that deep down it gets him down but most of the time he acts like he doesn't care, and his habits are dreadful!! There's only so much I can do to help- he still goes for the McDonalds and fish & chips and buys himself sausages and bacon for regular fry-ups at home!! When I'm in work I can't be in control of what he's doing at home and even when I'm at home I don't 'own' him- I can't MAKE him only slice a thin slice of bread and only spread a tiny weeny scraping of spread on it!! He's had his BP and cholesterol checked out and because they were fine, he thinks he has free reign of food choices!! It sounds shocking, but I almost wanted the readings to be high so he'd be shocked into taking action!! His chest is terrible from asthma (he's had it from childhood) and I'm convinced he'd see an improvement if he'd just make some diet changes- the same goes for his eczema!!X
