Half marathon training

Well done Coach, how did u find the run?

Ooh not long til your race!! 10k is a nice distance x

That's good.
Probably Mon or Tues, if I get my bum out of bed in time! Will only be a treadmill run though x

I am having this crazy thought about signing up to a marathon next year!!! Looking at Sept / Oct 2013. Figured I have about 18 months to train.

Scary scary thought, but it was only 8 months ago that I could only run 3 miles, now I can run 13 miles.
It was always my goal to run a marathon before I am 40, so I have two years to do if. Will not be deciding until I run the next 2 half marathons though, lol

2 half marathons? I knew you'd signed up to one!! When is the other one?

I did the half last week with doing the London marathon next year in mind but I don't think I'll enjoy running that distance. What one are you thinking of doing?

I am doing the local one in a few weeks, then the London 10k in July, York 10k in Aug and the Great North run in September!!

I'm not sure which one. London would be absolutely fantastic, but doubt I would get in.

I know what you mean about the distance. I was quite shocked after our half, it seemed to go on forever! I am looking at the marathon in terms of training time, I have plenty of time to get myself ready for it. I never thought a year ago I would ever run a half marathon.

Looking at a plan I have it seems quite doable.

Think I might be back on track!!! I did another 2 mile run yesterday and today I did 6 miles. So aiming for 8 miles at the w/e, then a 10 mile the following week.

How is everyone else doing?

Excellent news Shazz, well done!

I went for a 3 mile run this morning and I'm hoping to go for an 8 mile at the weekend but don't know if I'll have time.

Someone has offered to pay the registration fee for me to do the Bristol half but I'm in two minds!?!

When is Bristol?

Why are you in two minds?
I think I struggled so much with Silverstone because I only just got to 11 miles before the race. My new plan is to do 13 miles or above before my next race, that way it will not be such a shock to my body.

I'm not sure :)

I think it's because I would have to commit to the training again, although I guess I'll still be running and it would only be the couple of months before the race. Also do I want to do that distance again?

I'm worried that I'm going to struggle with the distance again but I guess I had the heat against me which would have made me struggle whatever distance I was doing. The trouble is end of September, the weather could still be silly hot, but then I'll be able to do some training in the heat during the summer, albeit mild heat at one end of the day!!

When do you need to decide?

I do understand your concerns. The weather was really hot at Silverstone, certainly not ideal for racing, but September could be a lot cooler?

You have lots of time to train, but it probably boils down to if you actually want to do it. It takes a lot of commitment to train for a half, your hearts got to be in it 100%

I know, that's what I'm worried about. It would be nice to have that to train for and also to be able to run the whole distance. I also need to take into consideration the other costs, ie B&B, car rental although that would be easy to do on the train too, kennels. I guess it is going to be pot luck with the weather again. I guess I'm not going to be happy until I've done the whole distance and that is on my home territory.

Yes these races aren't cheap when you add everything up. Why not plan a day, plan a 13 mile local route and go for it!!!
I'm sure you will have a month or so before you need to sign up.
You can do it Coach, no doubt about it, we just need to convince your head you can, lol x

Yeah, good for you Coach!!!!! :) :)

I'm doing Bristol too :) There are a fair few hotels within a couple of minutes of the start line but they're pretty expensive. Do you live far from Bristol coach? x
