Helen's quest for good health!

Hey!

Just read that your have bursitis. I also had that and have just finished a course of short wave therapy on my hip. It doesn't hurt at all and works a bit like an ultrasound, heating the tissues. I didn't ever have the injection but had weeks of physio which didn't help at all at the hospital so in the end they suggested the short wave therapy. It's a machine they have at the hospital and it takes 2mins and think I had 4 or 5 sessions. Maybe worth a try. If that hadn't worked then they were going to try acupuncture so if you're still suffering you could mention that.

Good luck. I know how painful it can be!

Thanks for your message, how did you get your bursitis? Did you have an accident too?

I had that ultrasound treatment a few months ago and it did seem to help my back but didn't really do much on my hip and then my company stopped paying for me to see that physio and the NHS said they don't do that type of treatment as they don't believe it works and only do conventional exercises.

Its a shame as had I had more ultrasound concentrated on the hip (they didn't know it was bursitis then and most of the pain was in my back then) it might have worked like yours.

Has yours gone now? Are you pain free?

After having the injection and it causing me so much grief I thought I'd read about it and some people say it has caused weight gain.. It better blimin not I tell you!! X

Hey!

Not sure what started mine but most likely it was me starting running. I went to the dr about 4 times, if prescribed me pills but nothing helped. To be honest they couldn't decide if it was bursitis or not. I was then referred to the hospital and physio team who did lot of exercises week after week but most I couldn't do because it required better core stability than I have and secondly it caused other parts of my legs to hurt. In the end the physio mentioned the short wave therapy. E said it is often overlooked because it doesn't meet the government's recommendation of only three appointments per person, but lucky for me it has helped a lot.

I have been on two 35 min runs since and the hip has not hurt. I'm not saying its brilliant but it's probably as good as it ever has been. I have to remember to do a lot of stretching before and after exercise though.

It's a shame your nhs trust won't give it to you. Not sure what to suggest unless you can afford and find someone privately. I didn't find conventional exercises any good at all.

I feel your pain though because it's awful when you can't walk properly, going down stairs was my worse problem

I think mine might have stemmed from running as when I was running I was getting pain and then when I fell the pain was just constant and never went away and obviously gave up running then!

I'm sure 16/17 stone of weight pounding on my hips wasn't helping!

Glad to see it helped you and also that you managed to start running again, yes walking downstairs is a killer. I'm hoping this shot will have worked if not I might look into paying to see the private physio who was using the ultrasound.

Thanks for popping on though as its nice to hear of someone else who knows how painful it is! No one would believe how much pain I was in after going in hot bath/sauna/steam room/jacuzzi but it was obviously because of the inflammation but lots of people (including doctors) were saying it couldn't still be inflamed after all this time. Take care of yourself x

A shake weight is a dumbell with like an added bit that stretches out when you shake it... They are supposed to make your send more toned in less reps... We'll see it was on offer at work so if its pants I haven't lost much... I will also be walking more now I live further from work which should help with my body magic... Sadly I left my abs machine behind, but I am sure I can come up with something...xx

Let's hope so! Thing is don't know about you but even though I lost nearly 3 stone (despite putting back on 8lb at Christmas!!) I haven't really gone down that many dress sizes, I have read about people on here who have lost 2-3 stone and have gone from an 18 to a 10.. Wish that was me! I've gone from an 18-20 (22 in some shops/clothes) to a 16-18 so me hoping another stone would make me a 14 probably won't happen anyway!

I have lost 3 stone and gone from a tight 20 to a tight 18 and that's it hoping this year is the year my clothes sizes drop however i can still imagine myself being 12 stone and a size 18 lol xx

No I totally understand the pain. Well my pain started april time but I didn't see dr til August. It was still hurting until recently so the inflammation can stay for a long time if not treated. I was told by one dr to not use my leg!! I was trying to explain that no one is going to carry me and I need to walk even if it is to the loo or that little thing called work!!

I really hope you can get yours seen to and sorted because it sure isn't nice and shouldn't have to put up with it all the time x

We are so similar! It's so weird isn't it, and when you see people in magazines or on tv who are like our weight now (15 stone ish) but wearing size 26-28 or something, I think I look like that though as really can't understand it!

He ha I was the opposite really as was so confused, some said to rest it but most said I had to keep using it and not just sit around.. Found out now that you are supposed to give it moderate rest! I can just imagine you trying not to use your leg.. Basically do nothing not even go to the loo then!

Really wishing I could have gone to the fancy dress party I was due to go to tonight, bloody hip getting on my nerves now but it's going to get better real soon I know it (positive thinking!).

Here's what I would have gone as (got my neighbours to take a photo when costume arrived) and my friends who are at the party now

What have I done?! I've just had a binge.. Should have just come on here and got talked out of it but no, there has been a pot of nutella in cupboard for ages and I have just had 4-5 spoonfuls! Why oh why? I wasn't even hungry.. So cross with myself, I am going to syn it though even though it'll take me way over, I'm not even that much of a "chocolate" person so what possessed me I'll never know!
