Sorry Jo, I'll go onto Vicky's own diary next time:eek:. Many many happy returns, hope you have some Dukan friendly cake to celebrate.:D

Vicky, he was fine when he had patches - for about 10 days, then he decided he didn't want them. He's given up smoking loads of times - half-heartedly by his own admission (a few days, then start, then stop, then start) and he was always grumpy so I was so relieved when he got the patches (and so upset when he decided to do without). The next 2 weeks were bad (for the others in the house, he was oblivious). After that, he was absolutely fine. He started eating sunflower seeds to keep his hands busy and also a fair few ricolas (although he has cut down a lot on both). So I'd say (from looking on) the first month is the hardest.

How are you feeling? Hope your tidying frenzy helps you (and you can come and tidy our cupboards any time you like:D).

Mine first, mine first!!!

Happy Birthday Jo!! :)......hope you have a lovely time back in UK...safe journey and looking forward to having you back (will miss you :)) x

Thank you lovely ladies - birthday is next Tuesday 26th - but nice to have your wishes now to take with me.

Vicky - feel free to share mine here cos it's a faff going over to the dark side to find yours each time!!

Robin - I was one of those who advised Vicky to go without the nicotine patches because, the day you dare take them off perhaps a month or more after your quit, you're back to day 1 on withdrawal. So definitely worth living through the HELL of the quit "cold turkey".

I still have vivid memories of my "cold turkey" period, and they are so bad that I regularly revive them on the RARE occasion now that someone else's cigarette tempts me. (Fortunately, my brain must have a self preservation instinct because this ex-30 a day girl is now one of those HORRID ex-smokers I always moaned about!!!!).

Thank you all... I'm feeling so much calmer about my trip and you've all helped with that. I hope not to let you guys (and myself) down too much.

3 x PPs planned for May 2-4, and we'll see re weighing in 6th or 13th. Who am I kidding? I'll be on there to record the hike on the 2nd!

Have lovely Easters, all of you...

see you monday if i dont chat again hun xxx

Jo, you're quite right of course. In our case, husband had stopped countless times without patches (and with grumpiness;)) for a few days then 'cracked' so when he said he would try patches (via the GP) I was relieved as 1 - the GP knew he was stopping which gave him another incentive to carry on and 2 - with patches he wouldn't have withdrawals until the 'cig in hand' habit had had a chance to pass. I knew the cold turkey would come at some point, but he wasn't strong enough to manage without the nicotine aids first (I have a friend here who has nicotine gum still after 6 years of quitting. Husband thinks he should just stop them, but I'm sure he knows what he's doing). One size doesn't fit all.

Rooting for you Vicky, husband feels so much better and I'm sure Jo has given you all the positives too.:)

Jo, safe trip, have a great holiday, enjoy the food and your family and friends and see you back afterwards.

Thanks Robin! Enjoy the school holidays... they're almost finished here!

Hope I'm not too late - Happy birthday Jo! Have a safe trip and a lovely time back in the UK. Don't panic too much about food, you've prepared as much as you can and you'll be fine.

We'll miss you on here, but don't worry - we'll hold the fort till you're back!

Take care, xx
