Izzyhew's dizzy start to diet......

Hmmm well, hubby has said that he is going training on tues and thurs morning, so my plan for training couch to 5k is now; tomorrow night complete week 3, tues and thurs morning do sessions 1 and 2 of week 4, and if I feel up to it 3rd session of week 4 on Sat night but if not I will do it next week, only supposed to do 3 sessions per week anyway!

I just hope I can manage week 4, but if not I will just do what I can :)

I'd love to try running one day but def not until I'm a lot lighter  You sound very organised lol Are you enjoying it?

Glad you've got your two babies despite the PCOS :) I wonder if it's one of those things where doctors go 'oh no, everyone thinks they have that' and they just ignore your concerns. I've had doctors like that before

Bev I read somewhere to put the tortilla in the oven for a few mins to crisp it up a little prior to adding the tomato puree, it stops it going so floppy, ours where edible in the normal way - cut into quarters and held.

As for the couch to 5k, I'm not sure I have ever been so determined :) not sure what happened lol.

LoChan, I can't say I am really enjoying it, but it was a buzz making it too 3 mins when I didn't think I could.

As for the pcos I think you are right. I also think a lot of Doctors believe that weight causes pcos as opposed to the other way around. Now I freely admit that being overweight clearly makes it worse, but now that I have looked back over my life I can see I had some symptoms since my early teens (started periods at 11, always been irregular, and always had more body hair than my peers) and i certainly wasn't overweight then.

Having read a lot, I am believing in the underlying metabolic explanation, which causes insulin resistance, body releases excess insulin, and it is the insulin that aggravates what I believe to be a pre-disposition of the ovaries to become cystic. Not sure of the spelling of if I have explained it right.

All I know is controlling my bodies insulin release in the past by following a low carb diet really made a difference to my cycle and I am convinced that led to the conception of my son. Unfortunately I don't feel able to eat that way forever so here I am lol.

I know the more healthy my weight is, the more my body responds better to all of the above regardless of eating carbs or not.

Hmmn interesting stuff re insulin resistance and possible link with PCOS. I think I've never thought about it before and usually dismiss my past dodgy cycles for my weight going constantly up or down plus I've always been on one type of hormone-based contraception or another. I've got another 18 months with implanon to do and I'm hoping by then I will have lost enough weight to consider trying to get pregnant :) I'll keep the PCOS info in mind though as I have noticed a few of the symptoms over the years, including the body hair thing - I hate that :sigh:

You're doing all the right things to improve your health anywho, you've probably got more sense than the doctor too lol

Catch you later hun xx

I have a much nicer doctor now :) when I went in and was trying to conceive she booked me in for bloods straight away (for day 21) and they showed up my hormones weren't right, and she referred me onto the fertility clininc. I didn't have any treatment in the end, but at least I had the scan and the confirmation of what the problem was. I was booked in to try clomid but ended up pregnant the month before :)

Weight does make it all worse, there is no doubt about that, but the conditions do make it difficult. I have read a lot on this, and this book has a lot of info if you are interested LoChan, I have it on me kindle :)

Morning Izzy hope you have a fab day.

I make my pizzas with the warburtons squarish wraps - the white are 8 syns the brown are 8.5 ( yeh i know white being less go figure) lol, they turn out lush and keep their shape.

I might have a look for them. We have normal round ones from Aldi, I couldn't find the exact ones on the list so just assumed they would be 8 which was the higher end. Although OH bought 2 packs of 8 so need to get through those first lol.

today had my fruit and yog (yeo valley vanilla 3 syn) for breakfast, 1/2 HE alpen bar, 1/2 HE wholemeal crackers and HE cheese. I plan some pasta for lunch and chicken curry type dish for tea, well it will be chicken one way or another anyway!

Thanks Izzy , just found it in manc's online library so I'll give that a borrow :D

Im having a go a chicken katsu curry today lol hope it tastes ok

I've heard only good things about the katsu recipe, it's on my list to try later this week :)

Hi Brittany, I am fine thank you, hope you are well too :) lots of people like the pea curry it's just not for me! Oh and I think you should go to your group, best to get it over with and fresh start again. I'd quite like to go to one but the nearest is 20 mins drive and I can't commit to that, but I am enjoying doing it online.

What is in katsu curry Texty? Hope it turns out nice!

LoChan, glad you found it! I found it quite informative and helpful, I actually bought a paperback copy for my niece too, hope you find some useful bits!

Didn't have time for the pasta at lunch and ended up just having toast (5syn)

for tea, just me and daughter tonight as hubby working, I threw 2 chicken breast, potato and carrot in my big non stick frying pan, with water, 2 chicken oxo, and a teaspoon of curry powder, shoved on the lid and left it all to cook, and threw in a corn on the cob 5 mins before the end, it was yummy, the curry and chicken stock gets absorbed into the potato and gives it all a yummy flavour without being bathed in gravy or sauce. I must check if corn on the cob is synned though as I threw it in as an after thought! I am a lazy cook and love the sort of dish where you just chuck everything in!

Whilst tea was cooking, son was sat outside in the shade in a bumbo seat watching daughter and me repot her sunflower that she brought home from school, and a cactus that sorely needed a new pot. The extent of my gardening prowess lol.

Will be replicating the cooking at 9pm for hubby for when he gets home later, and I need to do my couch to 5k! so the kidlets best behave and go to bed sharpish (by 8)

I have to admit it is getting harder to keep a secret, and I was remembering that he has 2 weeks hols booked in July, in around 7 weeks. Couch to 5k is only supposed to take 8 weeks and I am finishing week 3, but I really do think it's going to take me longer to get there. However I am still going to try to keep it secret up until then, hopefully I will at least have progressed a fair bit.

Oooh, secret running, do you do it hidden amongst the shadows, ninjastyle? It all sounds very exciting and mysterious lol

Corn on the cob is free on EE/Green :) Katsu recipe is here if you want a nosey - Chicken katsu curry - Recipes - Slimming World

Sounds like a lovely afternoon in the garden with your kids, mine's a little vampire who's entered the teenage phase 2 years early lol

hee hee, my husband is in to martial arts and does a lot of training, ever since my son was conceived we have called him little Ninja, so that really made me laugh that you mentioned that! Unfortunately I am not remotely ninja-like :( my secret running amounts to jumping on the treadmill when no one is looking! I am keeping it secret just because if/when I make it I want to surprise my OH by telling him I can do it :) it is probably a very silly secret to keep, to be honest it is making it harder to do because my body really does perform better earlier in the day, but I have to grab my sessions when it fits in, like tonight which isn't ideal. still I carry on though lol. Perhaps I am afraid of failure and if I fail I don't have to admit to it (except here, and my best friend who knows too) but it's silly as OH is v- supportive and would congratulate me for trying anyway. Sooo ultimately I am not quite sure why I am doing it this way :ashamed0005:

On a very positive note though..... I HAVE COMPLETED WEEK 3 woohoo, furthest I have ever got with anything like this :)

Also thankyou for the info on the corn on the cob, and I will have a nosy at the recipe later, need a shower.....

Woot to completing week 3! :worthy:

Some people would say it's a silly secret. Me, I think it's rather sweet, surprises for O/Hs don't have to be all about material presents after all. I'm sure he'll be thrilled when he finds out how much you've done all on your own :)

It's a good job you're not ninjalike then as if you went about it that way your Mr Ninja would suss you right away lol xx

Had a proper look at the katsu curry, looks like it might be nice so I will put that on my list to try out :) Hubby likes a good curry but daughter can't manage things too spicy, so will plan it for a day when she is having something different, I am thinking if the sauce is nice that it could be made in a batch and frozen.... I really do like lazy options haha.

Not overly confident about fitting in my treadmill session this morning, hubby is away for his training as planned, so I have the time in that sense, but my son was up a little early this morning and has gone down for his sleep early and I'm not sure he will sleep long enough. I want to give it a go though if I can as it is the first session of week 4, and I will have to try it in the evening if I can't do it this morning and I think my best chance of making it is a morning!

breakfast is likely to be fruit and yoghurt, lunch pasta, tea is chinese pork chops.

well as predicted, baba woke up just before daughter left for school! However I was determined to give it a shot, so I popped him in his jumperoo and he seemed happy so I left him to it in the lounge whilst I jumped on the treadmill in the kitchen. I knew I would hear him if he got annoyed so I just thought well I will go for it and if I have to stop so be it.

I did it! week 4 session 1 complete woohoo! I did have to slow down the jogging to complete the 5 minute stretches but considering a few weeks ago, hell even last week, I really couldn't imagine managing 5 minutes!!!

Well done, what an amazing achievement! I can totally understand why you prefer to keep it a secret, I think I've said to you before that nobody even knew I was doing SW and it wasn't because I thought they would be unsupportive, I think it was just less pressure on me to succeed that way. I genuinely think that if my friends and family had known from the start, I wouldn't have got to where I am today because it would have been such a focus for me and everyone else that I would have got bored with it all. I'm not sure if that makes any sense to anyone else but it does to me!! :D

Good Little Ninja, letting you get on with your training :)

Bet that achievement has put you in a great mood for the day, I'm looking forward to reading your progress through the weeks :D

P.S What are the chinese pork steaks you're having for tea, are they from Joe's Sausages or a recipe? xx

pork chops are a recipe from the website we spoke of before, I had to change my plan though as I forgot I had ran out of chinese 5 spice powder.

Original plan was...Chinese Five Spice Pork Chops recipe - All recipes UK
which turns out lovely, and I don't bother with the cornflour, or wine as I never have it, I add a splash of balsamic vinegar instead, I usually add the sugar, so it's 1/4 spoon/person which is 1/4 syn.

what I have made is.... Tasty pork chop marinade recipe - All recipes UK
but I haven't cooked them yet, been busy with daughters drum practise so just home. I'm counting 2 syns per pork chop, not sure if that is right but sure it will be near enough. I will be a little over today as I ate some cheese thin crackers earlier ...... but my average for the week is still under so hopeful for a loss still tomorrow, I haven't checked for a day or two lol

I almost got caught out earlier, usually when hubby is training he texts to tell me he is on his way home, 30 mins away which gives me time to look like I haven't been running! However he turned up unannounced this morning and I was still sat in my trainers! Thankfully I had cooled down so much he couldn't see I had recently been red and sweaty hahaha. Oh well. I do seriously wonder if I should just admit it so I can always train during the day instead of evening, but I'm just not ready to tell yet.
