July money challenge

Oh dear, i checked my bank account the other day & thought it looked ok & then felt even better when I realised I'd put money in the Spanish account out of my current account instead of my savings acct & I hadn't moved the money back from savings to current, then realised, my 'balance' takes into account money on a monthly basis & is not up to date like the bank, so I'm not as well off as I thought.

It's 2.5 wks until payday for me & if I'm getting a bonus it should be then, but we'll wait & see.

Florida does cost such a lot of money, it is brill, but I understand what you're saying, it makes sense & yes you can always go next year, maybe the first 2 wks in December when it's the cheapest time of the year!

We both loved it, but at the end of the day it is only a couple of weeks and I would to have a nice garden :)

I was doing ok, on track and now the dog needs an operation on Monday and the quote is £360 :( bit annoying but needs must and all that :(

I could deliver sparty ... Where are ya lol

Oh that's not good, do you have pet insurance? We 'acquired' a cat many years ago & just a few weeks after her being with us & the week before christmas we found out she needed her thyroid out, & that cost about £300:eek: We also found out at the same time she was a very old cat, so we didn't get pet insurance for her, she had other problems! But lesson learnt from that for us we got it for all our cats after that.

OH got a £25 giftcard from work for Christmas which I've bought off him for £20, the £20 is going in the holiday tin pot (not holiday savings pot), I also got some money I was owed from tickets I bought a few months ago so seeing as that spend was taken up in my usual spending I filled the car up with petrol from the owed money & the rest is going in the holiday tin, happy days, we'll soon have enough money for a super duper holiday:D

No pet insurance for this one as we got him from dogs trust and he's 12 so no one would insure him. Our other dog is 13 and has NEVER needed the vet other than his annual jabs, but we've had the other 2 years now and he seems to be at the vets at least once a bloody month! Would say spent nearly £3000 on vets bills so far for him :( little cash cow lol

Super duper holiday yay! :)

It is what it is - no point dwelling on the things we can't change :)

Yup - takes the pressure off lol :D

Watching The Great British Budget Menu that I taped the other other day and its breaking my heart.
This lovely guy lives on a state pension and his food for the day is a cup-a-soup which he has half for his lunch and half for his dinner and if he's lucky he gets to have A slice of bread with it :-(

What is going on??!

How can a family with 2 working parents need to live on beans on toast every day?

Certainly puts things in perspective :-(

What side was that on?

It does put things in perspective and even though I do a bit of penny pinching when shopping I know I can afford to spend more if I 'want' to, for example today I went in M&S only for panna cotta yogurts but came out spending just over £5 on 3 items. I know the trifle for OH was expensive, but I wanted to treat him.

Now back to the programme, I genuinely felt sorry for the pensioner & the single parent, and it did become obvious what they needed was some staples, like rice, potatoes, pasta etc as a cheap basis for many meals. I didn't have much sympathy for the family of four, they lived in a large house (sell it to somewhere smaller if you can't feed your kids, I'd do that), and they used frozen chips, buying potatoes is far cheaper than frozen chips. This made me think there must be ways they could save money & then have more to spend on food.

It also irritated me when their chef went over budget with the salmon, hang on how is that 'managing' on xpence per day to feed a family of four, it was a nice gesture, but they need real help.

A few years ago me & OH spent all our savings & I knew we wouldn't have enough money for what we needed, so I worked full time 9-5, then part-time 6-10 but we had to work until finish at the 10pm job so sometimes it was midnight when we finished, you know I did that for a few months until we built up our savings. And I'd do again if need be.

Hopefully I will be able to get it on iplayer then x

How did that miss the radar Emsie?!?!?!?!??!

Hi Karen! Welcome, and of course, everyone is really helpful to each other and we pinch each others ideas ;)

Well not sure how i am doing really, have put all the money saved for the holiday into getting the garden done next week, and have cleared the credit card, and been selling lots so have cleared most of my overdraft bar £100 so far.
I have reached the point of selling being too much hassle, be it no shows to collect (happens alot with gumtree, facebook etc) and yesterday i found the bad buyers on eeBay that everyone talks about.

Had a t-shirt up, mentioned it had been in storage so will probably need washing as will probably be dusty (my washing machine broke at min waiting for repairman) i put all of this in the description, got fab feedback from everyone except this one woman who sent me a really snotty message saying she had to wash it (read the frigging description!!) i aplogised profusely for her still to moan so i refunded her the cost of the t-shirt and let her keep it and she still went on to leave negative feedback....what the F*** is that about?! So annoyed!!

So yeah, done with selling for the moment, too much hassle, i've managed to make enough money for what i wanted so now i'm going to just stick to the saving side of things from now on as this woman just really pee'd me off.

Hope everyone is doing good :D xx

pixie have you looked at Steetlife. It's a community thing and you can sell your items on there.I bagged up some shorts and summer trousers sold them.No fees to pay and no postage. It is a bit hit and miss thou depends on how busy your area is.

I haven't heard of that no, but thanks i will bear it in mind. I'm kind of done with the whole selling thing at the moment. Why is it always the minority that ruin it lol, some people really are just small minded and petty i guess. Never mind, what's done is done, just won't bother selling on it anymore.

I bought a skirt on ebay for 99p a couple of weeks ago (£3 postage), paid for it via PayPal the same night, 5 days later she messaged me to say that she wasn't selling it for such a low price and was giving it to the charity shop instead.. She did refund my money straight away but I was so p'd off.. She should have put a higher bloody starting price then... Grrr! Also had problems with people buying from me recently so I'm not going to bother with ebay any more x

eBay just too much hassle, this woman only paid 99p for this t-shirt which is why i think i was p'd off more than anything lol, i usually do just send it all to the charity shop, but thought i would try and replenish my savings pot as it got raided for the garden, but think i'm just gonna stick to saving/making money, much less hassle.
Can't be doing with all this drama, i like a quiet life, i am a very chilled out pixie, and these people are just harshing my buzz lmao

That's so bad mrstore! i would've freaked, why did it take her 5 days to message you? i only posted all my stuff on tues morning and all received by yesterday. That's so not right and not fair on you x
