Karenlou's diary - Hello, I'm home!

they have other ones - theres a tuscan bean stew that looks nice so i will check that one out next and check if its veggie for you :) x

Thanks. Where have you seen them? They're not in my local Waitrose or Morrisons.

theyre in Sainsburys with the ready meals. Theyre supposed to be in Waitrose but if Waitrose work like Sainsburys do then they might be regioned to where they think they will sell best. I have people shouting at me all the time because "Washington sell this so why doesnt Team Valley?" to which I wish my answer could be "well if Washington sell it why dont you p*** off back over there?"..working with the general public really brings out my rude side... :p

there is a Waitrose in Newcastle now so I will wander in there and see if they have them there next time I pass by :) x

LOL - you'd be a riot in 'dealing with challenging behaviour' training :D

There's a sainsbury's in Lincoln so I'll have a look next time I'm over there.

Aww, thank you! (about my avatar :))

Are you a vegetarian K? If you are watch out for the strawberry milkshakes in McDs because apparently they're not vegetarian though the other ones are  We get a lot of muslims/hindus (not sure) come in and order fillet of fish, some with strawberry milkshakes and I'm not sure whether I should tell them it's not vegetarian.

I'd love to be a vegetarian as I'm so anti fur and hunting. I feel like a hypocrite but every time I try to give up meat I crave it so badly. Instead I only eat organic/free range meat and try to eat some veggie meals in the week to cut down my meat consumption. Better for the environment apparently!

Wow - didn't know that about McD strawberry milkshakes! I only have the choc ones (and try not to do that too often *ahem*)

It's good that you try to eat free range meat and eat veggie sometimes as well - if everyone did that, as you say, it would help the environment and we could put unscrupulous meat production out of business!

I am what u'd call a semi-veggie. I have gone off the taste of mince and sausages and have replaced with quorn... I eat chicken and other white meats, a little fish - not much tho, BUT I hate to admit I will eat a Mac D's although am trying to give it up as it's soooo bad.

I gave up McD's 2 years ago and you know what?
Every time I have a nibble (just a nibble!) of a burger, or a chip, all I can taste is grease and sugar and FAT.
Because that's mostly what it is

In the same way, sometimes I give up Coke for a few months, and whenever I have it again it always tastes really sugary. (I soon get used to it though. :p)

I never knew you were a veggie Karen :)
How come you are?

x

Karen i checked all those vegpots for you. They're all vegetarian minus the thai curry one. Had the Tuscan Bean Stew last night and at first i wasnt too impressed but as I ate on it got better and better and i found at the end i enjoyed it and was really satisfied.

Hope you're doing good today xx

Thanks Rach. Didn't manage to get on here yesterday as I was busy. Went out to Pizza Express last night and was quite naughty but I'm doing a good job of pulling it back today.

Jenni, I've been veggie (with the occassional lapse) since I was 18. I shared a flat with a girl who was veggie and she'd been working in a chicken factory as a holiday job which put her off meat completely. She told me some stuff about animal exploitation that changed my views. I also don't like the idea of putting a dead animal in my mouth.

I used to be vegan and was quite a bit slimmer in those days but found it too hard to sustain (cheeeeese!!)

I like the idea of being a veggie, just don't think I could give up meat
Though I do eat Quorn (cause it's got less points in, lol.)

Hehe, I haven't eaten proper cheese in ages.
It's weird how WW has changed my eating habits very subtly, like, I don't eat bread - I eat ryvita, cause it's got less points in.

And I haven't had a pork pie in months  haha.

x

Yes, it's funny how that happens isn't it?

Well I'm not at all well today. I treated myself to a Wetherspoon's veggie breakfast (15 points) and now I have terrible stomach ache and the runs (sorry for tmi).

I have no gall bladder, so fatty food does get me like this sometimes. The bad thing is I will now have to do 24 hours on ginger ale and dry toast to recover (have had this so often, at least I know the drill!). The good thing is it'll do my weight loss for Monday the world of good - not sure it's worth it I must say.

K has gone off to the footie and I decided to stay here, rather than go and keep his mum company which I normally would. I'm glad I did now - sometimes when you're not well you just want your own bedroom (and bathroom!)

Oh, I know that feeling.
Unfortunately I have no excuse for it - I normally get the runs because I've eaten too much sugary food, lol.

15 points for a veggie breakfast? How?!

JULY '07 UPDATE: McDonald's is no longer using cochineal for red food colouring in strawberry milkshakes. A small amount of natural beetroot extract is used instead, but without any beetroot flavour.
Cochineal is a colour derived from animal sources but McDonald's no longer uses this colouring in their Strawberry Milkshakes, therefore the Strawberry Milkshakes are now suitable for vegetarians.
Yes, all the milkshakes at McDonald's are suitable for vegetarians, as McDonald's no longer uses E120 cochineal in the Strawberry Milkshake. The new colouring is beetroot juice concentrate E162. (June 2007)

Found this on an ask Mr McDonalds man anything website! lol
Hope you feel better soon Karen! I used to love a weatherspoons meal untill I read the eating out guide!! Not good!! My fav meal ended up about 45 points! ha ha!

I think everything is fried. It's quorn sausages, which are only 1 point each but they are deep fried with probably quadruples the points before you even add the eggs beans and hash browns.

My tummy is really swollen and tender now and I'm going to lie down in bed with a book for a while.

aww poor Karen! i hope you feel better soon - chip shop chips and battered sausage do that to me as well, though i'm pretty sure i do still have a gall bladder.. :p

hugs for the invalid!

Rach xxx

Oh sorry you are struggling. Go and rest in bed. I hope you feel more comfortable soon x

hope ur feeling better soon hunni xxx

Thanks guys. My stomach is still really tender today and I can't fasten my jeans without it hurting so Keith has set me the laptop up in bed and left me tucked up here with the dog while he goes out to get another gas cylinder.

Can't eat at all but I'm having cups of tea and also ginger ale to keep hydrated.
