Kim's diary of being a new mum

33 +1 weeks

Well I'm feeling much better yesterday was my last day of steroids so really hoping they've done the job and let the antibiotics work.....I have 2 more days worth but dr said only take if you feel you need them.

Well hitting 33 weeks seems to have spurred Mike in to "we must get ready!" So we went shopping yesterday and got a few bits. He's busy doing some diy bits as we speak trying to get the important stuff done before bubba.

Also found out yesterday that my mum has bought me not 1 but 2 prams (she loves a pram....obsessed isn't the word!) Both of them are the silver cross sleepover elegance.... she got one in the pink and cream colour (in case it's a girl) and the other all black if it's a boy! We will sell the one that's not needed! So really excited about that as I love that pram.... sure it's quite big but it looks so comfy! My mum and sister bought new buggies for my niece as she's now 1 so just needs a pencil buggy for when they go shopping etc and I gently reminded my mum that she's going to need a double buggy at some point as she will be looking after baby and my niece....
For someone who loves shopping for prams she's very excited at the prospect lol!

So feeling a bit happier that we've got stuff for baby... just need to get the room sorted so I can get things organised!

Oooh and we bought the first pack of nappies last night while food shopping! Felt very surreal walking down the baby aisle!

Hope you girls are having a good weekend. I'll catch up with diaries when I'm back at work as we still have no Internet at home..... fingers crossed we get Internet on Wednesday! :) xx

Glad you're starting to feel better and that you're starting to get sorted with baby stuff. That pram is gorgeous, very big but if that's not an issue then it's pretty much perfect I would think! You're very lucky that your mum loves pram shopping lol ;) xxx

Mmm just cooked and eaten a lovely roast chicken dinner...... nom nom nom! Did find it amusing that i have to stand sideways on to the cooker as bump gets in the way! Still got 7 weeks of growing left to do! God knows how big im going to get!

Not sure I can move after eating all that food and im really hoping I don't wake up like last night with heartburn (or at least I think it was heartburn as it was a weird acid type taste in the back of my throat I just couldn't clear, drank some milk which seemed to help)... does that sound like hb?

Sounds like heartburn, gaviscon at the ready! Try sleeping a bit propped up too, that can help xxx

Hi honey :)

How are you doing today? Back at work now aren't you??

Not long and maternity leave will be here - it's fab ha ha :)

Yup. Sounds like hb to me but sucks!!!

Dinner sounds fab. We had roast chicken last night. Yum

Thanks girls - good to know it probably was HB and luckily i didn't get it last night so i think i probably ate too late on Saturday night and then went to bed on a full-ish stomach....wont make that mistake again!

Hey hun, i'm good back to work today and making the most of having internet access...work done today = zero! ;)

Awww very jealous of you being on maternity leave! Makes me wish i was finishing earlier, but i will power through....5 more weeks...i can do it!!!

33+2 weeks

Well i have ordered the bedding for the cot and i think i have found the cot i want too!
The bedding is a set that mothercare have discontinued (i think!) but i am not overly fussed about matching everything as it has plenty of colours in it to match with bits and pieces.

The cot i am looking at is this one:

It comes with the under drawer storage thing and the change top thingy. I am very lucky as my aunt wants to buy us the cot, so will have to go to mamas and papas and see it in person - although i have a sneaky feeling it is the same one that my sister has for Libbie! If it is they will be cousin bed-buddies lol.

Now i am wondering what colour to do the room, do i stick with white/cream and keep it neutral and bring in colours in everything else or do i go with white and a bright yellow wall....hmmmm decisions decisions.

I also need to find some crib bedding - they don't do the matching set for the cot bedding i have ordered so i am debating whether to get a white/pale set for the crib as it will be in our room so doesn't need to match the nursery. I think Mike's mum wants to buy us the crib bedding so we will be going shopping for that...maybe i should let Mike have a say in something ;)

I'm feeling excited today about baby and wanting to get things ready :D

Oh and we have no mirrors in our flat that allow me to see below neck line, so here is a 33+2 bump taken in the work toilets (classy! haha!).

Hope you girls are had a good weekend! We've had no end of trouble getting internet installed at home so fingers crossed that Wednesday we will have internet again!

Oh and girls...please tell me i am not the only one who hasn't packed a bag or even got the stuff to go in a hospital bag yet?! Should i be doing that soon do you think?

Am working on my bag this week... No more messing ha ha...
Though I do have everything there ready n waiting to be washed so it can be packed... Well, my stuff is washed, I need to buy non bio washing powder so I can wash baby's stuff to get packed...

Love your bedding.. and love your cot...
Also.. What a FAB bump?! Gorgeous... Lovely wash hand basin too ;) lol

I've done about an equal amount of work as you today.. How awful!! Over 2 weeks off and still nothing done!! Ooops

Eeeek yeah i think i need to start on the bag....i haven't even got the stuff to go in it! haha.

My afternoon has been spent with work loaded on one screen (i have 2 monitors) and a spreadsheet and internet explorer on the other doing baby and hospital bag list ;) a very productive working day lol.

Haha i think the background to my bump photo is just amazing ;) REALLY need to get a decent bump photo. I got Mike to take one in front of the tree last night but i swear i just looked HUGE all over! Will have to see what magic i can work in photoshop lol.

Awwwwww the cot and bedding is just too cute!

Looooooveeeee your bump too.....very neat :D

xxx

aww thanks :) I'm not sure how it looks neat - it doesn't feel neat! lol. It feels huge! I'd love to know how big baby is in there as wherever i poke i can feel baby so there really isn't much space left!

awww thanks girls I'm really pleased with the bedding and glad i ordered it as it gives me a starting point for the bedroom now. I want to go home and decorate now! Not sure Mike's going to want to do the filing of the holes etc thats needed after his first day back at work!

I can't imagine how its even possible for you to look huge all over unless you blended in with the tree... Because you are all bump n there is NOTHING huge about you!!!!

I read somewhere last night its recommended you have your bag done by 30 weeks just in case (Think it was on my Irish mum 2 be forum) and I was like "Oops.. am a bit late.. best get to it" lol
Though I've been saying for weeks I'm doing it this week but keep putting it off...

Aww thanks lovely for you to say but there is plenty of me left lol. Although i haven't put on a huge amount (14lbs) i certainly feel bigger......i guess having put weight on before my BFP doesn't help when it comes to that! Not long and hopefully i can lose some of this extra padding!

To be truthful i was trying to get a silhoutte photo of bump infront of tree so i guess i did sort of blend in a bit! I also got him to take a couple with better light so just need to see if i got anything worth keeping!

Eeek i'm late with the bag too then, going to get it sorted this weekend i reckon....so at least there is something to grab if needed. Not sure it can wait until end of the month for payday so may have to go on a credit card if i need anything....what are you planning to wear while in labour? i am stuck on what to get?

Try not to stress about hospital bag x I started mine probably a couple of weeks ago and was dreading it to be honest! But so far it's been quite easy! Packed some toiletries (bubble bath, body wash, toothpaste, toothbrushes for me and John and also deodorant for the both of us), breast pads, maternity pads etc and now that I have some non-bio stuff, I've managed to sort out baby's things. Packed some vests, sleepsuits, nappies, scratch mits, muslins, a couple of hats - currently got a couple of blankets in the wash so I can pack them tonight. Packed nappies, extra sensitive wipes and a baby towel. I find instead of trying to do it all in one go, just do it in bits. John remembered the camera today, so he's now put that in there, I just need to pack some batteries.

I think I've packed a nighty, but I still need to go out and get some more PJs, nighties, lots of knickers etc and then it's just a case of making sure my dressing gown is packed when the time comes. Will try and pop to Primark this week for all of those things.

Just do it in bits hun...you'll soon start to feel better about it and more organised - and once you start putting things in it, it doesn't seem like such a daunting task!

I still have drinks/snacks to get too!

Ooh one thing we have started to do is any spare change we get, we are putting aside (at the moment in a sandwich bag) to cover parking costs, and just to have some spare change so John and my mum can go and grab a coffee or whatever. We only have a fiver at the moment lol but hoping to increase that. We're lucky that our hospital car park takes card, but you never know when you need some spare change ;)

I'm bringing a night shirt for labour... So I can have skin on skin straight away...
I've printed off a Hospital Bag Checklist from Milupa Aptaclub website and am sticking with it.. Its an essentials list so its everything I need to bring...
There were so many lists floating around it was panicking me..
And unlike Jess I'm a b1tch n J can look after a stuff for him, himself.. I've enough to be doing without Mammy-ing him...

You are lucky!! Ours is pay and display so J needs to guess how long i'll be in there.. LOL
And more annoyingly you can only pay for 3 hours at a time!!! Which is STUPID at a maternity hospital... Men can easily miss the birth of their babies!!!
But I've recently figured out I can set up an account online and can just send a text to validate parking... But that's only a new thing

Check with your hospital what their policy is for women in labour apparently at ours (which is pay and display as well) you can buy a pass which means you don't have to keep topping up the meter if you are in labour. So worth asking! Xx

No they don't have anything like that unfortunately. OH's SIL works at the hosp so we've asked her. Even her hubby had pay n display when she was in there last year!!!
The online texting thing will be fine tho :)

At our hospital you paid for 24 hours and they validated your parking ticket so it lasted a week. So it cost us £6.70 for the 8 days we were there.

33+3 Weeks

Urgh i had the worst night last night. The masionette downstairs from us has been empty since we moved in (or at least there have been no signs of life...no lights or anything on at night) then when we got in to bed last night there was this incoherent shouting going on, i got up and looked out the window thinking it was someone drunk outside but no one was around. We deduced it was coming from downstairs. Well...turns out (we think!) that it is someone who is disabled/special needs (whatever the politically correct phrase is these days) shouting, crying, wailing and banging as they were obviously in distress/unhappy. Now i could have coped if this was just at 10.30/11pm, however it happened almost every hour without fail throughout the night, finishing when we had to get up at 6am (sods law between 6am and 7.20 when i left there was NO noise!).
It was frustrating as not only was i awake because of that but baby has been pressing on my bladder and i've been getting up to go to the toilet every 1-2hours. So zero sleep for me, actually thats a lie i slept for about 20mins Mike said but then the wailing/banging/shouting started again and i woke up.

I REALLY hope that this person was just visiting and isn't going to be a permanent thing as i really don't think i can take it, not only is it keeping me awake it was really distressing to be listening to someone (a grown man by the sounds of it) so upset/distressed all night long. I feel bad for them and know if it's a disability it can't be helped, but surely it's not appropriate for someone to live in a massionette with 3 close neighbours if they are going to wail/cry/shout/bang all through the night.

Fingers crossed for a quiet night tonight.

Needless to say...work productivity today = minus 100%! I'm actually considering having a nap in my car at lunchtime but i am worried it will make me feel worse than if i keep battling through!
