May money challenge

Sounds good to me!

I've still got £15 left for fresh bits but this weekend we've ran out of bits and bobs like gherkins, sweetcorn etc. I've told hubby it's not in my food plan so I'm not replacing them, yet!

This thread is really interesting, we have a budget for everything eg. I know exactly how much our weekly direct debits are, how much we have coming in. We put the same amount of diesel in each week, work out the weekly council tax, etc. But since the beginning of April our tax credits have gone down by over £300 a month!!! So we're really struggling!! I think it's daft that they're worked out on how much we earned last tax year instead of on what we're earning now!!! Xxx

I have £20 left til Friday which just so happens is enough for hubby and I to rejoin group on Thursday :)

aw me store, they are a bit oblivious! Hope you manage to sort it out x

Sorry mrstore blinking predictive text! Can you not appeal their decision? X

Don't think so. It's because the year before last OH was out of work, so last year they paid us loads, but then OH went back to work last year, we earned more, which means we hardly get anything this tax year :-( does that make sense?? Xx

Yeah makes sense, I think people seem to forget that even though you are now working, you still have bills and even more so now because you have to pay them yourself. My bro is on DLA and assumes that we have loads of money as hubby works, what he doesn't get is that we have more bills that we have to pay for ourselves than he does. I think the DWP think along the same lines as well.
I think it's true, you have to be a bit of a plonker to work them, it seems to be the way they operate is back to front and upside down, god forbid they ever need any help! Xx

My budget is about to be ruined!

Our boiler broke yesterday, we have only lived in this house 8 months, the tank was half full when we moved in and have spent £600 on oil already, we dipped it when we noticed the boiler had stopped, it was low so we managed to get a delivery this morning but the boiler still won't work! The oil today was over £300 and I've an engineer coming 'some time' this afternoon so I've had to take it off, I'm worried how much it'll cost but more so praying for it being fixed as I couldn't shower this morning, sorry workers! :)

I went into Boots earlier today and was so tempted by all the perfumes with the free handbags but I went straight to what I actually went in for and bought nothing else lol xxx

First day back in work today after the Bank Holiday and I haven't spent a penny!

Usually I'd have at least two coffee's, lunch and a bit of retail therapy during my lunch break :)

Hi folks!

Can I join you doing this please? I've just come back to SW and this thread really jumped out at me as I had already decided to make May a cash month. I gave myself £400 for the month (now £300 as we are a week in!!), and that has to cover all food and household stuff for a family of four, diesel to get to work and any non-essential expenses, but not bills. Trying to clear the overdraft!!

Welcome Slimstar and good luck!

These ladies have got it down it seems :) x

Nearly spent most of my leftover 15 on my unplanned salad night, found I had £5 worth of nectar points so I only spent £3.50 in the end :)

Right, i've done the money, I just need to plan my meals carefully now.

Worked out that I have £189.38 just for me and the joint account has £300 surplus for food, nappies etc.

When I write it down it seems a lot so I need to see where I spend the money.

Decided to keep my receipts for food shopping and see where its going!!!! I bet booze has a lot to do with it, and that could be reduced easily, Hubs and I are too quick to allow rubbish days at work or this week, glorious evenings as an excuse to have a little drinky poo's!!!

Spent 21 on petrol today, first time I've spent out of my 189.38 budget this month :)
