Moonwatcher's JUDDD diary

Perhaps I should open a JUDDD B & B, only no breakfast on alternate days!

I find it easier to stick to my DDs if I have something tasty planned to look forward to. I know some people prefer to not think about food on their DDs as they find it easier, but me, I prefer to think about food every day!

Plenty of food thought about and consumed yesterday, although no lunch as such, so not as bad as it could have been...

Late breakfast was a bagel with cream cheese and maple syrup. Then we got the walking boots out and headed to Overstrand for a walk. Walked for about an hour and three quarters along the beach, and stopped for tea and a small slice of lemon cake. That's not me being good with the lemon cake - they only sold small slices!

Headed to Sheringham later for the most de-lic-ious portion of chips with a jumbo saveloy and another walk - only around half an hour this time along the front as it was starting to get quite cold by then.

A strawberry white chocolate and biscuit lolly also passed my lips during the afternoon. Home then to watch Foyle's War with tea and nice biscuit, a creme egg and a glass of lemon creme liqueur. Good job we went for the walks!

Was rest day for the squat challenge which was a good thing as the previous night's 60 had left me pretty sore. Still a bit sore his morning - think I have 70 to do today, so may leave them until this evening!

Atomic - yes the lemon creme liqueur is basically a cream limoncello. I am quite taken with it - was planning to try it swirled through some greek yogurt last night, but I was too full! It was from Aldi - same shape bottle as the elderflower one, which, ahem, I also have in the pantry.

Oh, and Atomic - re the Halogen Oven (always abbreviated to 'HO' in our house now - ah yes, never got tired of the 'HO HO HO' Christmas jokes! ;)) I bought one on a whim just over a year ago and in that year we have only used our ordinary oven twice - and that was at Christmas for multiple sausage roll and mince pie baking. I absolutely love them - they are faster than an ordinary oven, and faster than our fan oven as well, (although that may be because our fan oven is a bit ancient), cheaper to run, easy to clean, and also - they light up the kitchen! Unfortunately our orignal HO kicked up his heels a few weeks ago, RIP. Apparently the bulbs are prone to giving up, especially if you use it every day, which I do, and some models you can just get replacement bulbs for, but OH needed a special tool to take the bulb out, we weren't sure if it was the bulb or not, etc., etc., so when I saw one on a Groupon special offer I ordered it. So glad to have HO (mark 2) in the kitchen again!

We do practically everything in it - toasting bread, bagels, crumpets, keeping things warm, joints of meat, cakes, and apparently you can 'boil' an egg on the rack, I think with no water, but I plan to investigate that a bit more first!

Oops, hit the wrong button!

Food for today, Monday 8th April will be

Lunch - moroccan couscous with mushrooms and chorizo. Frozen moroccan couscous salad from Tescos - will add chorizo and mushrooms 222 cals

Dinner - smoked haddock, leek and goat's cheese gratin with nutmeg (inspiration from Atomic Pink), topped with butternut squash mash, and served with green beans and buttered peppered cabbage 278 cals

Drinks - water, black and green teas, black coffee... until I float!

Daily weigh ins show 15st 1.6lbs yesterday and 15st 1.4lbs today, so quite happy with that as it is a gain of only 1.4llbs after two UDs. Really, really hoping to see the 14s again at Saturday WI.

Ha! Very amused by the irony of you early posting the DD menu!

I am sure you will get to see the 14s very very soon. Will keep my fingers crossed for you.

Your version of the smoked haddock bake sounds nice with the goats cheese and BNS mash. I just used a little cheese and some panko breadcrumbs on mine.

Haha, me too. I was going to edit the original, but thought it was funnier to leave it empty!

I am looking forward to the 14s. Between 14.9 and 13.13 I have several milestones I am looking forward to ticking off.

The gratin was absolutely fantastic. I added a tiny amount of horseradish and coarsegrain mustard to the butternut mash - a few extra calories I know, but definitely worth it. It was a very small piece of haddock - only 3 ounces between us, but the goats cheese and leek went so well with it. Thanks for the inspiration.

Tuesday 9th April

Woops - an unintentional lazy morning for me! Had a plain bagel with butter and orange marmalade when OH went off to work about 6.15. Made myself a cuppa and had a quick look at minis and my daily check for free cookery books on Amazon. Obsessed - moi? Don't know what you mean, I only downloaded 9 this morning, including a Fast Diet Recipe one (link posted in the 5 2 section if anyone is interested) and a 500 page Italian one (lots of pictures). Anyway, back to this morning... fell asleep again and woke up to a cold cup of tea about an hour ago! Didn't sleep very well last night though.

Scales for this morning - 15.0.4 *sniffs air dramatically* I can smell those 14s again.

So food for today is...

Breakfast - bagel as above

Just now ... crust off a white loaf, with butter, coffee and cream

Lunch - soon - probably one piece of toast, a poached egg and some ham, tomatoes and mushrooms

Tonight - a sort of tapas inspired meal of

potatoes con bravas (probably spelt wrong) which is potatoes, chorizo and tomatoes,
mini chilli cocktail sausages, cooked with a little maple syrup and sesame seeds
dates stuffed with toasted almonds and wrapped in prosciuotto
fried halloumi on cocktail sticks with dried apricots
red sweet pickled peppers, stuffed with cream cheese
fried pineapple chunks (maybe)
baby plum tomatoes
salad
olives, lots of olives - green and black kalamata
small squares of warburtons square wraps, brushed with olive oil and rosemary and warmed through
garlic chutney, chilli sauce, mayo
prosecco

I cannot vouch for the spanish-ness of it all, but who cares? Especially as it is being followed by warburton's orange fruit loaf bread and butter pudding with custard, which rather destroys the authenticity anyway!

Sounds fantastic! Mmmmm. Not a fan of bread and butter pudding at all but pudding even sounds nice to me.

Eating a bagel, looking through free cookbooks and then going back to sleep sounds like a most excellent morning indeed. Much better than my morniing of battling with IT systems which refused to work and an IT department that wouldn't answer their phones. All after having been up since 5am.

Oh and good news that you can "smell" the 14s! Although I am intrigued about what exactly they smell like...

My morning definitely sounds preferable!

Have attached some before after after pics of tonight's feast, and the pudding just out of the oven!

Couldn't quite finish all mine, and only had a tiny piece of the pudding in the end as we were both too full. Was delicious though. Good job I did my 75 squats this afternoon, as don't think I could have got back up from even one this evening!

*dribbles at laptop screen, packs suitcase, grabs car keys and googles moonwatcher's house* You are seriously killing me with pictures of such tasty food! :D

Lol! And not a carrot in sight! My OH says that in the after shot it doesn't look like I've eaten anything because I left some of the potatoes and chorizo dish. Trust me, I ate plenty!

Daily WI this morning ('official WI' not 'til Saturday) is 15st 2lbs - up 1.6lbs, but tbh I was expecting more after last night's indulgences - especially with quite a bit of processed meat yesterday - ham, sausages, chorizo - and bread and butter pudding with custard...

DD today - so far have had 2 green teas, one black tea, one redbush tea with caramel - found it lurking in the back of the cupboard - was pretty good! Also one lemon and ginger and one black coffee.

Planned food for the rest of the day -

Lunch - a tiny portion of home made berbere spiced root veg soup (literally just enough to cover the bottom of the pan as despite his best efforts, OH couldn't fit any more in his flask!) Worked out as 50 cals, as had parsnip in it.

Dinner - Sweet Asian Chicken, cooked in the slow cooker, with garlic, honey, soy sauce, orange juice and other stuff. It is from this book - another £1.99 Amazon find for my kindle!

The Skinny 5:2 Diet Slow Cooker Recipe Book: Skinny Slow Cooker Recipe And Menu Ideas Under 100, 200, 300 And 400 Calories For Your 5:2 Diet (Kitchen Collection On Kindle) eBook: CookNation: Amazon.co.uk: Kindle Store

The book says it is 256 calories. Will check that in a moment, and if it's right I will still have almost 200 calories to play with, so may add some noodles/rice/sweet potato wedges to the chicken.

Have worked out the calories after adding some more veg to it, and weighing the chicken portion I'll be using, and that makes it 302 calories, so I will add an ounce of noodles (dry weight) to make it a nice round 400 cals. With the soup at lunchtime I have 50 in reserve if I need them. Maybe a white chocolate options tonight?

Oh my! That really does look like a lovely feast. It may be wrong with all the delicious food but my eyes and drawn straight to the glasses of wine... Mmmmm. I would kill for a glass of wine tonight but have put myself on a 3 week no alcohol rule after excesses at the wedding a few weeks ago :( Incidientally the 3 weeks is ending the night the "bride and groom" are coming round for dinner. She is a very bad influence on me!

Down day food also looks really yummy. The book sounds really useful.

Ha! Got to be honest my eyes were drawn mostly to the sausages and the almond/prosciutto dates - so were my hands!

Piccies attached of tonight's DD Sweet Asian Chicken on a noodle nest - small portions but very tasty. You can even see the steam rising up out of the slow cooker!

Good news on the lunchtime soup front. I measured my portion and I had over-estimated the portion size, so my lunchtime soup was only 30 calories! That means so far today I am up to 430 cals. I am having a wicked white choc options tonight, but made 50/50 with Kara coconut milk and water - will be 71 calories, making my total for the day 501.

Thursday 11th April

Morning all. Unofficial daily WI this morning is 15st. One more up and one more down to official WI on Saturday. Want to see the 14s then, but I am going to enjoy my UP day with some good home cooking because for me that is what this way of eating is all about! In years past I would have been tempted to have two strict days to try and see the number on the scales, but then having got there would have probably gone totally mad over the weekend afterwards, gained it back and then eaten some more because of feeling guilty... How crazy are we eh?

I was suffering from UP day indecision today - what to cook? I am trying to empty the freezers at the moment, so a freezer rummage decided on lamb chops. Food Network on TV and Nigella is making Calabrian Lamb Chops, so that is sorted then. Food for today, using up some leftovers...

Breakfast - toast, butter and marmalade

Lunch - leftover potatoes, tomatoes and chorizo from Tuesday night, with some spicy couscous, dates, dried apricots and goats cheese.

Dinner - Calabrian Lamb Chops, green beans, creamy onions and potato wedges, followed by bread and butter pudding topped with poached, spiced caramelised pears, and cream or custard, or maybe both!

So here is lunch - Chermoula spiced couscous with dates, olives, chillis, garlic, goats cheese, greek yogurt and mint sauce served with potatoes in chorizo and tomato sauce. Yum!

Din-dins!.jpg

It is a bit messy because I had started to eat it, then decided to take a picture to post. The potato/chorizo part was leftovers. The couscous took 5 minutes to put together. Moonwatcher express! :D

Very sensible mind-set to enjoy your up day and not get too obsessive at getting the numbers on the scales on specific days.

Dinner sounds lovely. I have some lamb chops lurking somewhere at the back of my freezer that I need to use at some point soon. What is the calabrian lamb? Which Nigella show was it from? I suspect I probably have the cookbook somewhere on the bookcase.

I want to live at your house.
