Moonwatcher's JUDDD diary

DD today and also the last of term. Yay! Well actually it was the last day for the kids, staff have a training day tomorrow. Not so Yay to the scales. WI isn't until tomorrow, but I have been monitoring since last Thursday's WI.

Friday am after UD -up another pound to 14.12.5
Saturday am after DD - lost the same pound again - 14.11.5
Monday am after two UPs - up 3 pounds to 15.05
Tuesday am after DD - down one pound to 14.13.5
Wednesday after UP - down half a pound to 14.13

So to get back to what I was a fortnight ago I need to drop 3 pounds by WI tomorrow morning! Unlikely I think.

Cough is back with a vengeance and also my sinuses are bad again. Actually I'm not sure if it is my sinuses or if I have picked up another bug/infection. Non stop nose blowing/running. Trust me you do not want further details but it is not good! Nearly 4 months of it now. Fed up with not feeling healthy also feel like all I seem to do lately is moan!

Planning on lots of walking next week as we are both on holiday but the cough/nose takes all the enjoyment away :( and I am so bl**** cold all the time. Hoping for some better weather. I really do need to get moving again.

DD food

Black and green teas and water

Lunch - lentil, tomato, herb and lemon soup (98 cals)

Dinner - omelette with cherry toms, mushrooms, chilli and cheddar/parmesan (372 cals)

Plus one cup of lavender earl grey tea with a splash of s/s milk (15 cals)

Total 485 cals.

How was weigh in? Really REALLy hope you did have that miraculous 3lb loss.

Very nice sounding DD food, really good combination. And the lavender tea sounds really intriguing. Is that a special brand or available more widely? I am rather tea obsessed. My draw at work contains about 8 different types which might be viewed as a tad excessive for a work selection. I was very excited when i found a third type of chai to add to the collection - i can report that cardamon chai is very very nice.

Well, scales this morning after yesterday's down day show one of those three pounds gone, but that means I have gained half a pound this week. :( This makes my total loss for March half a pound, and for February and March two pounds in total. I will probably weigh in again on Saturday, just in case another DD drops a bit more, and call that as my total loss for March. Wondering whether to change back to Saturdays as my WI, as that will give me three down days to make up for the double up weekend. I know that won't actually make an overall difference, but I am thinking it may make me feel better psychologically. One reason I gave up slimming clubs was because I hated the focus on that one day a week scale result. Don't think I can keep up positivity for half a pound a month, however much I'm changing my attitude to food. Oh, I dunno. I'm going to bed early with a cuppa.

Atomic - the lavender tea was just a Twinings one from Tesco's. I also got rose garden, jasmine and blossom (orange), all combined with earl grey. I like them all, but think the rose garden one is the nicest.

How frustrating for you, would monthly weigh ins suit you better?

I know I have had to have a quick 'chat' to iwith myself as lost just .2 this week, but i know my UPS have been very UP a couple of days this week and i know on the whole I am happier so this is more important than obsessing about things.

But that is easier for me to say as I only have half a stoneish to lose.

Weight loss can be a bit slow on JUDDD sometimes. I don't think the cold is helping cos it's harder to exercise.

I definitely think that slow and steady wins the race (well as it has taken me 18 months to lose just under 3 stones I suppose I'd have to) but at this rate it will take me another 7 - 14 years to get to goal. That's not so much tortoise as a snail on tranquilisers!

Anyway, as I've said before, the two basic options are give up or keep going, so today is a DD, which is an achievement in itself as I've never stuck to anything at Easter before.

Ladybird, you are right about the exercise. When I was exercising regularly I was toning up, even when I wasn't losing, and I also found it made me feel so much more positive. Planning some walks this week and will get the Wii fit ut next week I think. (No doubt it will do that thing where it pretends to have forgotten your name, because it is so long since you last used it)!

Derbynanny - my UPs have been OK this week, apart from yesterday, but that was expected and after the WI anyway. My overall calories are around the same as on WW. It doesn't always follow as simply as that though does it! I'm hoping this is just another blip. I seem to be holding on to a lot of fluid this week, but not really sure why. Maybe I will get a pleasant surprise next week. Not sure about the monthly WI - feel that I need to be more aware of what is happening.

Grrr, that's really frustrating you aren't getting better losses at the moment :( I am beginning to think that everyone's scales are conspiring against then at the moment. So many of us don't appear to be get the losses it seems like we should be. It doesn't look like I am going to get a loss this week despite trying to cut out carbs, that is beyond frustrating. I don't really know what to do, but as you say our options are "carry on" or "give up" and I don't like the sound of the latter.

Being able to stick to JUDD over Easter if other diets have fallen by the wayside at this time of year usually is a pretty big achievement in itself.

Hope you have a nice weekend. How long are you off work for?

Atomic - I am keeping everything crossed for your official weigh in tomorrow, and my 'unofficial, but may change back to Saturday WI if I like it.'

I am off for the whole school hols, lucky me, so don't go back until a fortnight Monday - April 15th. I am determined to go back weighing less than when we broke up, although at this rate I may have to resort to drastic measures!

Derbynanny -I would be the same with monthly weighing. Also if I had a whole month of gaining, like the last fortnight, think how much worse it would be to get on the scales at the end of the month to discover a large gain. I think I'd rather know a week at a time!

Food for Friday 29tb March

DD today, although I was prepared to allow myself 600 calories as it is a Bank Holiday! In the end I had teas and coffees only until tonight, apart from one stem ginger biccy. So calories for today are...

Baked cod with parma ham, parmesan and peppers from the Hairy Dieters book. (Actually it may have been pollock or another white fish, as it was out of the freezer and I had debagged it!) I had this with 100g of new potatoes. It was very tasty. Allowing a few extra calories as I used a little more parmesan than the recipe said, so 255 plus 75 for the potatoes - 330 calories

Stem ginger biscuit and one coffee with cream 123
Milk in teas 60

Total 513

Well I did get on the scales this morning for a final March reading after yesterday's DD and the accompanying 'wee-a-thon' and I am up again - 0.4 lbs. So I have lost nothing at all for March. Huuuummmmppphhh.

Anyway, two UP days now for the weekend. I was hoping to go into the weekend feeling a bit more positive, but hey-ho, I'm just going into the weekend feeling a box of chocolates! Not sure yet if Monday will be UP or Down, it will depend on what we do and where we go. I am just going to enjoy Easter as a 'normal' person, enjoying some food and drink when I want it, and start my next DD with renewed enthusiasm (bet you can all hear my teeth grinding!)

Oh dear :-( I had high hopes for a whoosh for you :)

I am thinking the same as you for Monday will see how the day goes

Have a great Easter than great enthusiasm for fasting afterwards and seeing how you can make the plan work better for you :)

I was rather hoping for a whoosh too, but March is just one month after all, so I am going to enjoy Easter and then see what I can pull out of the bag for April. I should be used to these 'blips' really, as they happen whichever diet I am on, but I suppose I was hoping JUDDD/fasting would be different because of your body not getting used to a particular calorie level.

Anyway, I still rate this way of eating as a whole. I can enjoy the Easter break without feeling I have broken my diet and know I can get back to fasting next week. That is worth almost as much as losing the pounds.

Also I noticed yesterday that although my measurements haven't changed, my 'tummy apron' has changed shape - sort of lifted at the sides is the only way I can describe it.

Sorry the scales aren't being kinder but I think you've definitely got the right attitude to things to carry you through it. March is just one month and I am sure April will be better. You never know we might even get some sunshine!

The cod and parma ham sounds lovely. And such a calorie baragin even with the new potatoes :)

Hope you are throroughly enjoying Easter "like a normal person", as you put it! Being able to indulge at times everyone else is without feeling you have gone off plan is the best thing about JUDDD I think. Its great to still feel on plan when indulging.

Have you got much planned while off work? Hopefully the weather will have picked up a bit to give you more options. How is the camper can coming along?

Thanks Derbynanny and Atomic. I most definitely am enjoying Easter like a 'normal' person. Rather too many goodies yesterday I think, in favour of proper meals, but am making up for that today with a most 'proper' Easter Sunday meal later, and less chocolate indulgence.

Easter Sunday lunch:

Starter: Halloumi and asparagus salad with lemon and olive oil, apricots, dates and toasted flaked almonds.

Main course: Leg of lamb, slow roasted with garlic, black pepper, rosemary and ... maple syrup, parsnips, carrots, cauli and cabbage, roasties

Dessert: Cherry custard tart (ready made from Aldi) although tbh I'm not sure I will make it this far!
