NannyDoreen & Upndown's daily diaries

Ooo im nicking this and doing some tomorrow xx wonder if u add salt they would taste like ready salted???

Funny you should say that - just posting about them was enough to make me make some - they're flipping lovely - but a pain to make - I made 1 potato's worth (average size that I'd use for a baked potato) and got a heaped cereal bowl full - so about the size of a pack of crisps or more maybe?

but even tho I sliced them as thin as I could I ended up cooking them for 3 mins then turned them (they stick otherwise) at first cooking for 1 further minute and turning them - but got fed up so cooked them for 2 mins a time - took about 30 mins in the end cos when they were raw/sliced - they filled 2 dinner plates full - but worth it!!

I'm no potato expert but have been told you have to use potatoes that chip well - I used those red skinned Rooster potatoes tonight and they were fine but remember ages ago using new potatoes and they didn't work.

How bad is that tho' - just came on Minis to say hello - then planned to go to bed - now eaten crisps and late for bed! Hope they work for you.

Yes they do taste like ready salted - but more like the good quality ones probably cos I cdn't slice them as thin as the W----r's etc brands. Wow what a long post!xx

I am not really a lettuce eater. I like tomatoes and beetroot maybe sliced onion but how do I make the lettuce taste nicer. I notice you had some balsamic vinegar, any other ideas apart from salad cream.

Oh I just thought of fromage frais with dijon mustard - (synned). Really would like something nice. I buy lettuce then throw if away.

Well done Doreen... that pork meal sounds lovely, apart from the apples hehe. I can't bear sweet things with savoury but I did look at that recipe on Kathy's page and think I could just do extra onions, or maybe mushrooms with it instead. I'll have to order some Dijon mustard.
Anyway, that's very low syns, are you planning anything else apart from your peach? x

I am going to have to look into my food, I had a peek at the scales today and have only lost 1/2. That was about 12 noon and I had not eaten or drunk up to the point because of the blood test. Got to cut down somewhere me thinks.

Maybe 1 egg and 1 bread and mushrooms or beans. Hospital tomorrow for my eyes so may start tomorrow. I can take a banana with me in case I get peckish. Have today to think about it.

I don`t know what is wrong with me the last few days. My head feels funny, I have a scarf wrapped around my neck. Head feels too heavy for my neck. I do have a slight neck problem so I suppose it could be that radiating up to my head. I also can `feel` noise in my head, not in my ears. I will try and mention it at the hospital tomorrow, they may have a solution. I will mention of course if it is still there tomorrow.

I feel like going to bed to have a sleep but then I may have a problem tonight and need to lbe at hospital by 9 and if the weather is as it has been I will have to get all the ice ans frost off the car first and will have to stick to the main roads instead of the lanes.

Mu sugars are a little high so could be that. I am going to have to stop eating as much fruit if it carries on. If I have - say - peaches in the evening my sugars are up in the morning. Mullerlights are 7% sugar so they are not good really. Often low fat equals high sugar.

I reckon when I go to look after the kids and I feel like this I put it down to tiredness of school runs etc. Maybe it isn`t. Better sugar checks for me I reckon.

I think I will get my old diabetic book out and look for some clues.
Anoither long post. Sorry if I boring but it does helo just to type it out. :)

They sound interesting.... will bear it in mind if I need a free snack, or are they counted as syns? I seem to recall a discussion on that kind of thing a while back but cant' remember what.

Ooops, hope the sw crisps didn't start anything! Good food and syns prior to that anyway and even if they have syns, you won't have gone over.

I love lettuce, there are so many different kinds, have you tried the mixed leaves, with things like endive or watercress in? They're good and flavourful but only if you like them of course. Or Little Gem lettuces, like baby cos... they're quite sweet tasting. I had a huge pile of lettuce with my chilli, and only a small spoonful of rice, the lettuce means I don't miss it, if you see what I mean.

It doesn't bore at all! and writing it out sometimes lets us (meaning the person writing) spot things, as well as those reading it. I wouldn't have thought you need to cut back much on your food but maybe try and increase the superfree. In your case, not fruit as the sugar could be a problem of course, but more vegetables. I know you said in your previous post that you don't like lettuce, so salads aren't your favourite meals but including a side salad with other things, even those that you wouldn't normally think of (like my lettuce with chilli/rice hehe) can be a way of sneaking in more for those that aren't instinctive greenery munchers. I love nearly all veg and salads but they can get boring on their own. Your idea for a fromage frais/mustard dressing could be nice, if you like a thicker dressing. I also really like the Hellman's Fat Free vinagrette type of dressing, lots of flavour but very litle syns. (Offhand I think it is half a syn for 2tblsps which is quite a lot)
Drinking more water or nas squash is also good if you can (not when you are out though, as you need to keep finding toilets!) and can help when stagnating too. Other than that, I think we just have to keep plodding on and hoping those losses appear at next weigh in. xx

Thanks Cloudy. I have made a note of the vinagrette and am defo gonna give it a try.

I did end up lying down reading my diabetic book & a recipe book. Ended up sleeping for a least 2 hours. I reckon it is my neck as it is feeling tight. Anyway, after hospital tomorrow I will be trying salad.

Tink - so you reckon I was rambling then eh? :)

hexa milk hexb 60g wm bread

S: pear & coffee when I got up.

D: Minced beef with carrots & onion, broccoli & small spud.

All the best for tomorrow, Doreen. Take care on those icy roads though. I hate driving in this weather! Hope everything goes well and that you manage to sleep ok tonight. Maybe write everything down too, if you have a lot on your mind. If I don't, I usually come out knowing I forgot to mention something! :)

Anyway, I'll be thinking of you. xx

Hope the hospital appointment is quick and not stressful tomorrow Doreen. Hope they can suggest something for your neck, maybe some physiotherapy is needed? Though, just a thought, is your pillow<s> comfortable for you? When mine got a bit squashed and flatter I found I woke with a bit of a stiff neck. x

I read this then did a list and put in the car which is already icing up. Thanks for the reminder.

Hoping not too icy, need to go just after 8am.

Funny you should say that Cloudy, I have just swapped the pillows around. My head is feeling much better since the sleep and another 2 painkillers has helped the neck. The Doc says to take 8 a day, but I try not to take too many when it starts.
My appointment tomorrow is the my diabetes. They dilate my eyes and check them out then the doctor decides whether any lasering is needed. Hope none needed, it doesn`t hurt but it causes scarring so don`t really want any to be necessary.

Thanks Tink. There is nothing wrong with the word rambling, I was just teasing you. I do go on a bit at times.

By the way, you are doing really well om the days on plan.

hey Doreen - lettuce isn't compulsory! But I quite like SW coleslaw with lettuce - white cabbage, onion, grated carrot, for the dressing - I use fromage frais, natural yogurt or quark with any kind of mustard, salt and pepper. I also quite like sweet chilli sauce with it too!
