Nefertari's journey to lose 130lbs

Hiya :) Popping in to subscribe.. I have been popping in to read your journey every once in a while since you started, but I was a bit scared to leave a comment! (not sure why..? ... I'm weird I guess)

I'm very impressed by your determination and progress so far! :D

x

Aww thanks hun! I like to hear from people reading - it let's me know I'm not alone! Xx

Looks like a great plan. These are all very realistic and achievable targets but trying to predict weight loss is very difficult. Hopefully your body will continue to play ball and you will be there or thereabouts for your goal dates.
Isn't granary bread a low GI food? How does it compare to brown rice or wholemeal pasta? Just interested.

Yeah, exactly - I know it might not go that way but I'd be happy to be at 15st by Majorca to be honest. A size 16 is my aim. I think with the cycling, that is achievable.

I think granary bread is low GI - not sure how it compares with brown rice or wholemeal pasta but it's lower than wholemeal bread. I quite fancy making my own bread to be honest! Might invest in bread maker!

Hi Nef :) Not to be a pain in the bum - but ... actually - you've been on Cambridge before, haven't you? I read that somewhere... Either way, stepping right into carb world is quite unpleasant after a VLCD. You get all lethargic and bloated and after such a long period of not having such things, our blood sugar levels are going to drive us nuts which may lead into a binge!

Low GI or not - do keep an eye on carbohydrate levels. Carbohydrate is basically just sugar - it gets metabolised that way. So, it may be beneficial to track the extras on MFP and keep it below 100 for a bit. :)

Ohhhh and I want a bread maker too... Been looking at them for years!! But - I'm so wanting to learn to make my own bread by hand from scratch. Mine always ends up tough and flat though... Yeast is a fickle beast!! O_O

:thinking2:At the end of the day it is about finding a diet that you can stick to. Any healthy diet will work so long as you stick to it. You talk a lot about losing weight normally, on normal food, but you must admit that for most people that involves filling up on vegetables (5 a day and all that). Only liking lettuce limits your scope a bit:rolleyes:. As I said, there are lots of healthy foods that also happen to be low GI. And yes it is true that carb is carb and that all carbs turn into blood sugar regardless of whether they are low or high GI but if you can find enough things you like to stick to a low GI diet, it will start working for you.
It's a minefield I know , but you have time to consider the best way forward for you.

Yes, I have been on Cambridge before - lost 7st then gained it all back because I just went back to eating the way I did before. My plan is to work my way off the packs gradually and reintroduce carbs. I know I might gain a few lbs of water/glycogen at first, but I'm prepared for that. Ideally, I'd like to limit carbs a fair bit so keeping under 100 for a while is a good idea xx

I'd love to make from scratch but my oven is rubbish so was thinking a bread maker would be a good idea for now.

F - I always have cold hands so I reckon I'd be okay there! X

I don't only like lettuce! Where did you get that from?

I like lots of veg and salad - I only stick to lettuce now because the cauli and broccoli gave me tummy troubles. I'd be more adventurous but at the moment, I stick with lettuce out of ease.

Re: Nefertari's Slim and Save diary

I've gone straight into eating carbs at around 140g a day and feel fine! You'll have that gain whatever you do, lots of carbs and you'll probably have it all in a week. Slow into it and you'll still have it but spread out over a few weeks. Either way it's the same, just depends how disheartened you get by it! Think the slow reintroduction is a good idea for you with your tummy troubles. Hopefully it'll help. I think you've got the perfect attitude to keep the weight off this time. Unless you're going to keep it low carb forever you'll have that gain at some point and you're prepare for that so you'll be fine!

Thanks Caz - I thought I was being sensible so it's nice to have someone who's doing it (and doing it well, I might add!) confirm that for me :)

I know the gain won't faze me to be honest - it won't make me look different and I know it won't be fat so it's just a necessary evil I suppose! Xx

Well here's how it went for me, if you're interested!

Saturday/Sunday: Ate what I wanted, didn't go mad calorie wise but high carbs
Mon 15th: Started calorie counting weighing 7-8lb higher than the Friday before
Tues 23rd: Lost 3lb
Today: Another 2.5lb down in just 3 days

So yes, you'll have that water gain but it'll be off fairly quickly. I think the difference for me over a lot of other people is that I always saw my 'true weight' as around 7lb higher than what it was doing a VLCD because I knew there would be that gain. I knew I'd need to lose 7lb or so more than my goal to allow for that gain when I came off. So when I changed I didn't put on half a stone, I just went to what I considered my true weight.

That's brilliant - thanks for sharing. Did you keep your water intake up during that time? X

Re: Nefertari's Slim and Save diary

Nope! I'm awful with water

Ah! So, perhaps if you had kept your water up, your gain wouldn't have been so much then? I'm pretty good on the water front now - 2 litres a day in addition to shakes, plus another half litre with Ribena Plus. That seems to be a good amount for me. 3 litres is too much and I feel bloated. x

I'll get me coat  Don't know why I thought that. So what veg do you like?

I like all veg really, except for leeks and cabbage. But I like raw cabbage in salads. And pickled cabbage. Not overly keen on asparagus either but I'll eat it. Um...can't think of any that I don't like except that! I didn't used to like cauli but I love it now. Oh, and I'm not keen on green peppers but I like red, orange and yellow :D

I can't stand cucumber. Even just the smell of it!
