Pregnancy and Baby Advice Thread: From Conception to Birth, and Beyond!

I'm aiming to keep baby with us for at least 6 months and thats what they recommend. A couple of my friends have got problems as they got moses baskets but their babies have very quickly outgrown them (at 3 months and 2 months), and they never made a plan for where baby will sleep as they can't fit the full size cot in their room. Luckily our new bedroom will hopefully have room for a full size cot so we can always move the cot in to us if baby is big. We are also getting a crib rather than moses basket as it tends to be a bit bigger - my niece lasted to 5 months in her crib and then they moved the cot in to their room and she's 10 months and still in their room as my sister hated her being in the other room.

Aargh hospital bags!! I've got:

A dress for labour (nightie type dress)
A nightie for after
A dark blue cotton dressing gown
Slippers
Three pairs of knickers
Three pairs of socks
Two pairs of fluffy girly socks
Dark grey yoga pants
Black vest top
Mini Shampoo
Mini Conditioner
Toothbrush
Toothpaste

Clips, bobbles, headband
Black towel
Breast pads
Maternity towels

I'm gonna pack a second bag with spares in case I end up staying in longer and leave it in the car.

For bubs I've got:

Pack of nappies
Ready made milk
6 new born vests
3 newborn sleep suits
Couple of dummies
Couple of bibs
Scratch mitts
Socks
Cellular blanket
Knitted blanket for car seat
Going home outfit
Snow suit

What else?? HELP meeeeeeee ;)

I was recommended to take an empty bottle or jug (for pouring water over sore bits when you need the loo if you happen to need stitches or tear) and one of those misting sprays of water for cooling off during labour. Ooh and face wipes for making yourself feel human with less effort! Will have a look through mine this afternoon and see what I have...

Definitely got the misting spray on my list. Adding face wipes, face wash, mini shower gel, pj's, spare bras, something comfy to come home in. I know we'll need snacks and drinks too. Gah it's honestly been the most stressful part of this whole pregnancy!!

Cai mentioned taking some fruitella sweets or something along those lines as apparently that was all she was allowed to eat at one point! So multipack of sweets going on my list. I need bras most of all. Nursing bras are mega dear but I need something...

It is stressful, the last thing you want is to forget anything! And as much as I love him I can't rely on Colin as he has a shockingly bad memory and if I asked him to bring something he would probably forget... :/

That's my reasoning. Tom is brilliant but he'd likely bring me a mismatch of clothes, pants from when I was skinny and god knows what else. I'm going to pack a reserve bag too so if I need more he can just grab the bag :)
Definitely getting some sweets. And some crisps and stuff for Tom. And pop. And now I'm thinking the milk I got is only 12 feeds worth. What if we're in longer? Need to buy another pack at least. Shopping tomorrow will either be fun or stressful!!!xxx

Ah. Where would I get them from? Boots?

Excellent, thanks girls. I'll have a look tomorrow x

I'm not into homeopathy so will prob give the arnica tabs a miss but the cream is supposed to be good - will definitely consider that :) I need deodorant for my toiletry bag and mum has offered to lend me a lightweight dressing gown so I don't have to take my big fluffy one so at least that is sorted. It's pink but I guess I can deal with that lol ;)

Other that that, I need to wash a pair of leggings and my button front maternity top, pack my massive tshirt for labour and sort out a spare headscarf and some pins so that I can tie back my fringe.

And scale back the amount of baby clothes as I really have packed too many ;)

I've bought as little maternity clothes wise as I could so I need to sort out which I want to take to hospital. Once I finish work I'll be spending a lot of time chilling out at home or my dads so unless I'm going out I'll probably just wear my pj bottoms and a vest or something. I think I'm gonna get some new leggings and a long top to come home in so I'm comfy. Baby clothes I'm fine with, got the vests, sleep suits, scratch mitts, hats etc. I'm a nightmare packing for myself.

Oooh forgot lip balm! Read of lot of lists that say you can get really dried out because hospitals are so warm and recommend lip balm. My Burt's Bees honey is packed :)

I hate lip balm. I used to have a friend who wore it all the time and it just used to gather in the corners of her mouth so it made me paranoid. I'll see if I can dig one out but I'll probably not use it x

Bleugh, that sounds horrid! Not surprised that put you off. It tends to be the petroleum jelly based balms that do that so see if you can find a natural one maybe? You can get some for pretty cheap these days that aren't so grim.

It used to make me feel sick. I know it's horrible but she had quite full lips and used to put it on ALL THE TIME!! To be honest I think it was the Vaseline ones that she used so that explains a lot. X
