Pregnancy and Baby Advice Thread: From Conception to Birth, and Beyond!

Glad these babies perked up for you girls yesterday, mine tends to have quieter days, but i can normally count on it waking up when Mike's alarm goes off in the morning...it's funny it kicks away as if to say "Turn it off!" or at least thats how i feel.....Mike can sleep through the loudest alarm ever!! If it doesn't wake up with the alarm i tend to poke it until it kicks me then i feel able to get up. These babies do worry us!

Jess - i love that she gave John a couple of kicks so he didn't wake you up! She obviously knows her mummy needs her sleep! ;)

Well girls.. Got an ALMIGHTY pain across the bottom of my stomach last night.. It was STRONG and SORE!!!! Knew I was seeing GP this morning anyway and baby was wriggling about after so knew all was grand til I asked about it today...

I had read BH weren't painful.. they were just a sensation and maybe uncomfortable???
WRONG... The doctor laughed at me when I told him that's what I thought they were.. He said "they're not called practice CONTRACTIONS for nothing!!"
He explained then obviously if they're regular and get stronger etc then call him or the hospital but otherwise nothing to worry about... But yea... You'll KNOW when you get BH!!!!!!

lol! Deffo havnt had any Braxton Hicks yet then judging by the explanation of them above!!!!! :D xx
I yelled out.. That's how strong the pain was... Scared J a little if I'm honest coz usually I'm quite mute with pain.. But it was quick and it was sharp...
Felt like an eejit when the doc laughed at me.. LOL.. He said its the uterus stretching, and then it spasms.. And that's what you feel... OUCH...

I thought it was just a muscle cramp or something.. Definitely wouldn't have thought it was BH from what I've read on them....
But it makes sense doesn't it? They are a practice contraction afterall....

Yep and i can't imagine your stomach/uterine muscles tightening or spasming isn't going to cause some pain! Pregnancy is full of such wonderful things! ;)

Oh isn't it??? These babies certainly make us work for the privelage of them!!!

Baby was maybe in an awkward position? Have to be honest never had any like that! More that you're tummy goes really tight and can make you gasp a bit but not actually painful! Hope it was a one off! Xx

I've never found BH to be painful! Just shows how we're all different I guess, I found them more like an uncomfortably tight sensation, makes me catch my breath and stop what I'm doing but never actually painful. It's always more across the middle of my bump than at the bottom too. Pregnancy so different for us all! Sounds really nasty though, hopefully you'll not get it again! xxx

i never got them with jacob, i just woke in labour!

makes me get all excited to see how things will be this time round :D

& yep even though its practice ones i can imagine the pain.. eeeek! xx

Most bh are painless I think, just uncomfortable, but I've been having really painful ones this time. With the tightening which are tight and uncomfortable I get a sharp and long pain just under my bump. Really stops me in my tracks. I think its the way baby is laying

Dunno.. Today when he checked position she was much higher up but we all know how quickly they shift tho... Defo not a one off tho as I was getting them pains a good while back too.. But hospital said it was most likely just stretching...

That's what I said to him Laura.. I'd read and heard from others they were painful but that made him laugh (not in a condescending way).. He said "they're not called practice contractions for nothing. If they weren't painful they'd be called practice niggles not contractions"

Well from all your descriptions I've definitely not had any!! And I don't think I want any either, I'll just wait for labour!

Ladies...has anyone got stretch marks?

I have about 4 tiny ones on my right side between my hip and my appendectomy scar... But I've today found another one the other side of my appy scar... I don't mind them too much but I don't want hundreds by the time I'm full term :( lol x

I haven't but I did have a lot already so I think my skin is pretty well stretched! All of mine are old and faded from years of dieting and gaining weight again, tbh they don't look bad at all once they fade so I wouldn't worry too much about it. Lots of moisturising might help but I think I'm right in saying that stretch marks are genetic so if you're gonna get them no amount of cream will stop it. But it's much nicer to have them for a good reason like pregnancy, rather than from yoyo dieting. :) xxx

I've not got any new ones YET sure I will though as my skin is terrible for them, I use Clarins Oil which is almost £40 for a bottle but it definitely improves my existing ones.

I'm afraid you haven't got much control over them! As has already been mentioned it's genetic so have a look at what your mum has!
Moisturising can help but won't prevent them.
I thought I had got away quite lightly with just some under my bump until I had her and my tummy went down and then I had loads all over my tummy! They are fading though xx

Ladies
Have any of you had a letter from your Health Visitor team advising that they want to come out and see you before bubs is born? We came home to one yesterday. Nobody has ever mentioned this to me before! They've made us an appt and said they want both parents there but it's the Saturday before Christmas so Tom will be working.
