Pregnancy and Baby Advice Thread: From Conception to Birth, and Beyond!

I'm planning to breast feed, but as Jess said i can't really make a decision until baby is here and i know how the BF goes. Eventually i want to be able to express but i'd like to exclusively BF for as long as possible to ensure i have a good supply, then i can give bottles of expressed milk so Mike and family can feed too.
If BF doesn't work for me then i'll bottle feed Aptamil to baby.

I'm not sure really... My aim is to breastfeed, but I don't know how long for and I don't know if it will be exclusive. If not, I will either express, OR bottle-feed with Aptamil formula. The reason why I don't know the above is because I don't feel I can possibly decide 100% until baby is here. It all depends on how I get on, how baby gets on etc If I can breastfeed - great! If I can't, I have no worries about bottle-feeding. The same goes with if I do breastfeed, baby having the odd express milk/formula bottle to allow others to feed her. It's a tough one, I just really can't make a concrete decision until she's here. As "plans" and "reality" don't usually work hand in hand ;) if you know what I mean? xx

Couldn't have said it better than that :) x

Me too, saw how pressured my friend was to BF and how stressed she got with it all when it wasn't working for her!

I definitely think that having a plan is good but not setting your heart on anything is the best way. I have friends who just couldn't breastfeed for whatever reason even though they wanted too and it made them feel awful when they couldn't as they felt under so much pressure to do it. I'm definitely not letting that happen to me if possible! My plan is just a plan and if it changes I won't mind, as long as whatever changes is best for me and the little dude :) xxx

Ladies...has anyone got stretch marks?

I have about 4 tiny ones on my right side between my hip and my appendectomy scar... But I've today found another one the other side of my appy scar... I don't mind them too much but I don't want hundreds by the time I'm full term :( lol x

I found my first one underneath my boob the other day lol .. It's only tiny so not really noticeable but hoping I don't get too many more x

I'm hoping to breast feed but we will see. NCT lady today was saying to start with you shouldn't do mixed feeding as in breast and bottle. We have a fuller session on feeding next Thursday so will ask some questions then. I was just wondering what if you don't produce enough milk yourself so need to supplement with bottle

I know once of my friends combination fed right from the start with no issues, her daughter was tiny when she was born though (despite being born at 38 weeks) so maybe that makes a difference?

Will definitely be interesting to see what they say!

My friend has combination fed since day one and her not so little man was 10lb!! It takes her forever if she just breast feeds.

I think the most important thing to remember is you have to be happy with your choice and if bf isn't for you then that's absolutely fine. Some midwives and health visitors will go on about breast is best and all that but in my view (as well as the other midwives in my team) if bf isn't making you happy then how is that best!?!

I have mainly bf because it worked for me. I have midwifery friends who didn't enjoy it/didn't like it/couldn't and they formula fed instead and all is well! If I couldn't bf was always happy to bottle feed.

Re mixing feeding, what I would say is that for the first week or so bf first and then top up after (if you need to) but not more than about 30mls, so your boobs make the milk you need and baby doesn't get overfull on formula as their tummy in the first few days is only the size of a marble. That said this applies to bottle fed babies as well!
Once you've got a good supply you can then start pumping and freezing! The lansinoh bags are good for freezing milk I've found!
Xx

Keep getting a right pain in near my pelvic bone ouch! X

Oww not nice but doesn't sound uncommon in pregnancy sadly x
It went on for about 5 minutes and then it went to my belly button and was like a shooting pain across it for another few minutes I'm guessing there just growing pains though...

Now it's a dull ache on my lower right side and under my rib..

Question for anyone in the know - pins and needles in late pregnancy, are they normal? I have had them in my hands for a bit now (carpal tunnel) but am sat up in bed and my feet are going numb and tingly! I wouldn't say my feet are hugely swollen, just a bit puffy. If anything my hands are fatter than my feet. Do I need to be worried or is this a normal late pregnancy thing? xxx

I have tingly hands and feet, the numbness is only slight. I'm still lying in bed but gonna have to get up shortly as my back is hurting. I think I just had bad circulation in my legs at the moment tbh, I have a big purple patch near my knee (looks like a bruise but isn't) which is apparently a busted vein according to my doctor. I find that my legs go dead quite easily too these days. Think I might phone my midwife though just to be on the safe side... xxx

Could be that too! I just put everything down to 'general pregnancy stuff' these days tbh ;) xxx
