Pregnancy and Baby Advice Thread: From Conception to Birth, and Beyond!

Ladies Have any of you had a letter from your Health Visitor team advising that they want to come out and see you before bubs is born? We came home to one yesterday. Nobody has ever mentioned this to me before! They've made us an appt and said they want both parents there but it's the Saturday before Christmas so Tom will be working.

Yes, I did and it really worried me with all my problems but it was fine! All she did was introduce the service, asked if we were ok and if we needed any extra support or guidance and told me what would happen after the birth when she takes over from the midwife. It's nice to meet the person you'll be seeing afterwards too. I think it's quite a new thing as no one else I know with youngish kids saw their health visitor until afterwards. :) xxx

Ladies...has anyone got stretch marks? I have about 4 tiny ones on my right side between my hip and my appendectomy scar... But I've today found another one the other side of my appy scar... I don't mind them too much but I don't want hundreds by the time I'm full term :( lol x

Sadly I have :( I put cream on but sadly I don't think that will prevent them. They are genetic so little control over it. Least they will remind you of your little baby :)

No but I think it's a great idea. Midwives used to do a home visit at 36weeks to check you had got all the stuff for baby, see what the home environment etc is like, but we don't anymore as not enough time! But as health visitors are supporting you until they go to school it makes sense you meet them first!
Don't worry about it, you're obviously in a forward thinking area! Xx

Morning ladies...
Jess... No I've none... But as mentioned if you're gona get them, you'll get them regardless of what lotions n potions you use... I think the creams n oils are really just to keep the skin moisturised and avoid the itchiness and help keep bump as comfortable as possible...

Sarah... I'm obvioulsn't not in the UK but I have read a couple of ladies on here post the same question and were quite worried as they'd not heard it before.. But seems its becoming quite a common thing.. :)

I was dead stressed out by the idea of them coming round, you know what I'm like! But it was nothing to worry about at all and actually pretty useful in the end. :) xxx

It's a good idea, especially with all the things in the press at the minute about mistreated babies etc. The only thing I don't want is the 'breast is best' lecture (which my friend told me they did about four times to her!) so I'm just going to tell them I'm doing it in the hospital, which I am for the first feed, then taking it from there.

She didn't even mention feeding to me so you might get away with that lecture hopefully! She just asked if we had everything we needed equipment wise (cot etc) but didn't want to see anything.

Stretch marks - I too have had them previously from gaining weight however in the final 4 weeks I turned into a tiger!! Lol. Mainly on one side! Ha ha ha. I have them on both sides but at least double on my left hand side (which I didn't quite understand as I always felt Stevie move more on my right hand side!!

They don't look great but they are mine and make me even more unique! lol xx

Dammit, Tom really wanted them to ask to see the nursery, the big show off lol x

I guess being as you have it all ready they might do? When we had our visit the cot etc was still in Cheshire so she'd have had a job viewing it even if she'd wanted to lol ;)

Haha good point. I think Tom just wants to show off his handiwork more than anything. He keeps saying "Have you put a picture of this on Minimins?" Lol.

Aww... I love how excited they all are :D

oh gosh i hope a health visitor doesn't want to come and see us - we've got nothing for baby, and from the sounds of yesterdays conversations regarding our house move we may be moving house in Feb as well as having a baby if they can't pull thier fingers out and get a move on!!! The dream i had where we put baby in a moving box may well come true! lol.

I do think it's quite a good idea to get to meet your health visitor before the birth, perhaps they are trialling it in certain areas to see if it's worthwhile.

Sarah - i reckon you should show your nursery off it's gorgeous! :)

I'm all for meeting the people involved but it does make you feel not good enough or like you're about to be judged. I'm sure that's not why they're coming but it does feel like we're being checked up on.
Apart from my mum and step sister nobody has seen the nursery yet. We better get some visitors soon!! Haha.

i dont think i saw anyone last time. Be interesting seeing someone this time!...

so how many of you ladies are breast or bottle feeding? i bottle fed Jacob due to medication i needed but this time really considering breast.... but id like to pump half too so others can feed, like hubby, grandparents. x

Sarah I'm sure it will be fine! Don't worry about it.

Jess I am breastfeeding mainly. She has the odd bottle here and there, either my milk or formula but it's probably less than once a week though. She is nearly 5months though so we will be starting food soon! Xx

I'm bottle feeding. I'm going to do the first feed in hospital once baby is born then go onto bottles. It's just not for me. Nothing against breast feeding, it's just a personal decision.

I'm going to try breast feeding but want to express a bit so others can feed and I can get a break. Got formula in as well in case it doesn't work.

I'm not sure really... My aim is to breastfeed, but I don't know how long for and I don't know if it will be exclusive. If not, I will either express, OR bottle-feed with Aptamil formula. The reason why I don't know the above is because I don't feel I can possibly decide 100% until baby is here. It all depends on how I get on, how baby gets on etc If I can breastfeed - great! If I can't, I have no worries about bottle-feeding. The same goes with if I do breastfeed, baby having the odd express milk/formula bottle to allow others to feed her.

It's a tough one, I just really can't make a concrete decision until she's here. As "plans" and "reality" don't usually work hand in hand ;) if you know what I mean? xx

Pretty much what I'm planning on doing! If I can get on with breastfeeding then I'll definitely think about expressing so Colin can take up the slack if I need a break from it all. I've got formula in too, I can never understand why feeding is presented as one thing or the other when you can do a mix of both too if you want. It's whatever works best for you at the end of the day and I'll not be pushed ether way! :)
